It's called short-term and long-term memory.
Short-term, immediate memory is for simple tasks to get processed first; information that is more complex and demanding goes into working memory, and, if it's tagged with emotional importance or special relevance, it ends in long-term memory. It's a very complicated process.
That sounds like a lot of work that the brain does.
It's really amazing how our body works
