Darwin rules. People form pair bonds and make little ones. They take care of the litter so it has the best changes to survive and make later on their own litter.

I wouldn't call it holy, although some would, it's what we're "designed for" by nature. Reproduce. Raising a child is a selfless sacrifice, and less commonly, even some parents have sacrificed their own life for their childs life. It is The Ultimate form of Love.
