Is it really "six days"? Have you ever tried to learn the Ahramic language, the original language of the bible? This language and other semitic languages are usually so subtle and tricky to be properly translated into other languages. The English translation writes "6 days". But that might not be true. I mean we are not sure of that. Just like in Arabic. The word "Yom" can mean "day" or just "a period of time". We are not sure if its really six days, or six periods of time!! So, it's not really that easy. The problem of the bible is that, it has been translated into other languages, and then the translation has been given credit and people do not bother themselves to learn the original language in which the message was revealed. There are also so many different versions of the bible, some people might prefer one over the other!! I don't think it's really accurate.

Unlike the Bible, there's only one version of the Quran and all Islamic faiths, Sunni or Shia, agree upon the original script. The translation is not given credit. I mean there is no Quran written in English, Persian and etc, even if there is, it's the Arabic version which is actually used to make quotes and citations. We are also recommended to learn Arabic, so that we are not confused and mistaken by mistranslations!!

I like that you brought up language. I'm not religious but I've read so many different holy books and just with the Christian bible's alone... different translations all over the place.

I've read Mein Kompf twice and obviously, I don't speak German, so they were English translations. It was almost like reading two different writers' work... well, basically it is two different writers' work. So much was different or changed between the two different translations.

I think a lot of people miss that point and just assume what they've read is the one and the only thing that was actually said... and none of them read Hebrew. I went to a church that would do the bible verse by verse, but alongside with the Old Latin bible, just between the Latin and the English... a lot of it was changed.

Gotta give props to the Quran for sticking to a single language.

to beh, both points are illogical. we can know the meaning based on usage of word "sunset and sunrise is a day in that same section".
you contrast quran "only one arabic" as if bible is not one hebrew? "unlike"? but you yourself wrote original is hebrew not translations. how can you ignore even your own words as if bible differed?
and finally if quran good it said christians have no worry so u can join christian even according to quran 2, 62-65.

@D_Bone_Steak to d bo, you described idea presented differently but this argument is about one word so ANY word can be decoded based on the way and manner it is used in the same section. see for yourself 1, 6 in same chapter.

@D_Bone_Steak No he doesn't, actually. Even with the confusion of Yom and translations and whatnot, it literally says after each day " and the morning and the evening were the _____ day" it literally defines day.

@Shelbina *sigh Alright... To be devil's advocate I'm going to just try to prove your argument more than fight against it. How was the earth spinning back then? I mean the Saharan desert was a tropical rainforest at that time. Was a day of daylight a 16-hour event like it is now... I think not.

I'm really drunk so forgive my belligerence... if there is any... but a day for them could be defined differently than it would be for us.

Try to remember I'm here to prove what you're trying to say... so say it... I will help with my supreme intelligence.

Two reasons. First, because our models of geology and astrophysics say that the planet was assembled over millions of years, and has continued changing ever since. Of course, those models could be inaccurate, but for that we turn to the (supposed) record of God's activities, the Bible, and THAT doesn't say the Earth was created in six days. It simply days "In the beginning, when God created the Heavens and the Earth". It then goes into modifications of the planet and its inhabitants that were done over six days, but the actual creation doesn't have a listed timetable.

It also mentions all the things that God said, but not who He was talking to, which I always found kind of weird.

Don't you think that maybe the author could be saying something like 'God created the earth and this is how he did it'?

I suppose- but the scientific evidence that we have says that's NOT how He did it; it was a far more gradual process.

Because there's a mountain of physical evidence to prove that stories bollocks.
And before anyone says days meant something different back then or a day to God equals millions of ours that's bollocks too and just trying to wriggle out of it.

after reading both sides both have ind faith either in scientist people wgo did not see what they are claiming or trusting a book without knowing if reliable. the balance is same as usual: "ask did jesus ever say" i mean by name that books exodus and genesis are good. if not then we can't trust genesis just kuz ancient Catholic trusted ancient jew rabbi, blind followed blind.

Because astrophysics say otherwise. Scientists understand how plantets form and from studying our solar system, we know earth actually took between 5 and 20 million years to evolve from the proto-Earth to Earth.

So why would I believe a ridiculous story about a magic being abracadabra-ing Earth into existence in 6 days when all evidence contradicts that?

to ofd, as if the astrophysicist saw? science is observation but they never saw the "long process" neither here nor any other olanet. not observed is not science. "so why would you believe" astroguy" who did not see? you have more blind faith then religion to claim they have evidence that u nor them ever saw.

@strateguy632 they have observed the same process occurring in distant galaxies. It can be seen right now in its various stages with powerful enough telescopes.

It also matches with the geological record and modelling based on every piece of evidence in question. That is not blind faith at all. It is evidence based discovery.

So of course I would believe physicists with peer reviewed science over a fairy tale.

It's my personal belief, just like how theists choose to believe in their idea of God.
Plus I've read about researches that support the idea of a big bang and it sounds good enough for me at the moment. But much like any other science, it's an evolving theory and I will expand my acceptance of it as new discoveries are found.
