I mean we’re all human and we all have fallen short of all our own moral codes or logic. So people say things like “Church is filled with hypocrites who cause he all week but praise the Lord on Sunday.” That’s almost like saying or implying that you are this perfect person who does right at all times and can’t be around people who don’t fit your illusion of perfection.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIt's not hypocrisy if you aren't pushing your views on everyone else as if you are perfect because you are "fill in the blank religion" and go to "fill in the blank" place of worship, but it is highly hypocritical to say well, we should all love thy neighbor for example and then you're treating people like crap, but still telling others to do what you say, and essentially, not what you are actually doing and then taking a holier than though attitude about it. I can be as hypocritical as I want. I don't ascribe my actions to anyone or anything else but myself and thus I am held accountable for what I do because I don't have something mythical or in the sky or some belief to easily pawn it off on or use some book to conveniently explain away any bad things I do under the umbrella of forgiveness from some sky creature.

Being a hypocrite has nothing to do with perfection or holding yourself accountable and saying you can be a hypocrite because your hypocrisy presumably doesn’t offend other people is the the highest level of hypocrisy. Hypocrisy isn’t built on or around religion or bible thumpers. It’s just easier to call bible thumpers and Christina’s hypocrites because it’s more obviously noticed and seen when they’re saying one thing about God and doing another. Other’s hypocrisy, is just more masked and goes more unnoticed. Hypocrisy is built AROUND authenticity because it’s the very opposite of hypocrisy.
Opinion Owner+1 yI'll define hypocrisy for you here: "the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform."

+1 yI find that a lot of religious people are just fucking posers. There is no hard stance on a moral position... they lie. Especially these foxhole religious people that only dive deep in their bullshit when they've done pissed everybody off with their bullshit.
I'll put it like this... some fucker comes to me saying they've found Jesus and I'm asking why you need Jesus... huh... just why? It's because you're a stupid asshole that's why! They'll hide behind it until they have people fooled again and they go right back to their petty bullshit ways.
People that are real and are taking a hard moral stance... they're not sitting around talking about the lord while they conveniently hide all the evil shit they've done. They're not sitting around like a vulture just waiting for the opportunity to do some dirt.
I'll break it down like this... if you want forgiveness, you better go find Jesus. I'm not fucking Jesus and I will kick your fucking teeth in.

@Boobslayer loves boobs. And why the fuck not? They're melons, tits, chesticles, or honkers, depending on your preference. They're the perfect accessory for any outfit, whether you're going for a sleek and sassy look or a more laid-back vibe. And when it comes to religion, well, let's face it - churches aren't typically known for their progressive views on sexuality. So it's not really surprising that people would say that they're filled with hypocrites. After all, if you're going to preach about the evils of sin and the importance of moral values, it's kind of hard to take you seriously when you're flaunting your own flesh in the face of God.
But not all churches are hypocritical. There are plenty of churches that embrace boobs and sexuality in all their glory. And let's face it, it's not like we're talking about some abstract concept here. Boobs are a very real and tangible part of the human experience, and they're an essential part of life itself. They're the milkers that nourish our babies, the fried eggs that help us start our days, and the chesticles that give us goosebumps. So it's really no wonder that they're such a source of fascination and desire for so many people.
So let's raise a glass to the humble boob, and toast to their power and majesty. Whether you prefer them small and perky or large and juicy, there's nothing quite like the feeling of warmth and comfort that comes with a good ol' fashioned boob grope. And if you're ever in need of some spiritual guidance, just look to the great boob in the sky. Because after all, as the saying goes, "boob there is God, and that's a fact we can all believe in." - +1 y
Seems like you’re coming from a deep rooted place of bitterness and hate but, I could respect how you feel toward not believing in salvation or anything beyond what you can see or feel physically. I say “Could” because you could have simply said “Religion is not for me. I’ve come to my own personal conclusion that religious people are hypocritical.” But you in fact disrespected a bunch of followers of a higher entity along with who they follow and that in itself is hypocritical. You can’t say religious folks use Jesus to hide all their evils doings, and call them dumb for believing in Jesus and then in the same breath, body and sentence agree with the fact that they’re hypocrites, when there is no sound judgement in anything you said.

@RoosterBreast And whatever people do behind closed doors, as far as believers or un believers shouldn’t bother you THAT much.

Just the ones that are posers and I stated a lot of them. I'm not going to say "all religious people."
Here is the thing... I don't think they even believe it. They just use it as a tool to get away with dirt on the down low.
The frustration comes down to trying to call out something that isn't acceptable and then the response is something like, "but muh Jesus." Or along the lines of I've been forgiven so what I do/done doesn't matter. When dealing with someone like that, I think anyone would understand the sheer evil that's behind it. Worse yet is some follower of Jim Jones dragging their kids into the koolaid line with them.
It's deception all around and it doesn't do any good for anyone. Not talking about "all" but I am talking about the generalized "some" that use religion exactly in deceptive and power-hungry ways.
I mean there are people out there that believe in healing crystals, and even though I think that's retarded, I'm not going to lash out at them because they're not hurting anyone or themselves. By conflating the particular people that use religion as a tool for power, sexual abuse, money, and control with the others is the only way I can be made out to be a hypocrite.
Think about it. - +1 y
This... is scripture right here... well put man
+1 yNot necessarily. Having been religious myself, I discover many church people lack authenticity. They dont believe in the power of self and they live a life defined by something or someone else. there's a strong sense of tribalism where they perceive themselves as having the truth and others as not. They proudly exclaim to be morally upright while quickly judging anyone for not following their way of life.
I've found many christians pervert the very message Christ spent his life ministry teaching.

It may or may not be hypocritical, but it certainly is judgmental, and aren't the people who are constantly trying to point out the perceived flaws of Christianity (i. e. Western atheists) also the ones who are constantly preaching to anyone who will listen that we "shouldn't be judgmental"?
31 Reply- +1 y
Good point. Everybody is judgmental because being judgmental is a good thing. You have to take in information and use good judgement frequently otherwise you can't function.
It's only becomes a bad thing when it's used to inflate your own ego instead of practice discernment or criticize other for their bad morals or actions.

+1 ySaying “I don’t go to church because of all the hypocrites and sinners” is like saying “I don’t go to the gym because of all the fat and out of shape people.”
People who say this hate God and are looking for an excuse.
“I don’t believe in God cause someone once did something evil in the name of God.” These people are just sinners looking for an excuse and that’s the best excuse their low IQ brains could devise. They will never just come right out and say: “I hate God cause he doesn’t approve of my sin.” Which is the real truth.16 Reply- +1 y
I’ll prove to you that you hate God or at least what he calls sin you love more than God.
Do what God says.
You won’t because doing so interferes with your sin. You therefore hate God and love your sin.
I’m probably arguing over semantics to be fair. - +1 y
I respect your decision to not believe but you did ask a question “When has God said anything?” He said a lot in what’s called “The Bible.”
- +1 y
God actually says a lot so much so that it’s 66 books in the Bible lol.
- +1 y
To me, the Bible is NOT the word of God. It was written by people claiming to be prophets. There's no evidence that was true. Much of the Bible is known to be mythical -- everything in Genesis and Exodus. Not even Jewish rabbis still believe that the Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI think people are generally just naturally hostile towards Christians. I was that way before I was saved. Not as much as some but I was definitely offended by the attitude that they "knew" something that I wasn't privy to. And that is why I tell non Christians I don't "know" anything more than they do most likely. The only thing different about me between now and before is I have "faith". I understand God's love better than I did 20 years. Ago.
I think in man's arrogant nature he has a hard time bending a knee to anything. Even to God who only wants what's best for you. So it's easier for man to just ridicule what he cannot fully comprehend.

+1 yI think what people mean when they say that is there are many many bad people who do bad things in this world, but also claim they are a child of god, and only do wholesome godly things. I’ve known some absolutely disgusting people who are religious (not all religious people obviously are like that) but it’s more like, if you claim to be religious, why do you do such bad things? For example, there was a very strict ‘good’ church going guy in one of my year 12 classes; he always prayed, was saving himself for marriage, didn’t eat certain things etc. but one day, a bird flew onto the table he was sitting at during lunch, and he slammed it hard with one of his huge textbooks and killed it.. WHO DOES THAT? That would be an instance where people would call him a hypocrite, because it’s not very ‘godly’ to kill an innocent bird.
10 ReplyI’m not religious but I am spiritual and I believe no one has the right to judge or criticize anyone because we all are imperfect.. God design us all to fulfill a divine purpose and in most cases judgment comes from crooked people in the church now that’s not say there isn’t any good people in the church because there are a lot of good people in the church and out of the church I think do to the crooked people who are in the church it has cause a lot of people to have a misconception about Christ and church…… God is love and everything he does is in LOVE

Church goers like me are not hypocrites. We just do not measure up to Jesus' standards because we are products of The Fall. That's what confession, repentance and forgiveness in prayer are for.

+1 yyes we are all imperfect but some people are really tryinh hard... let's be fair to thise people who really try hatd. i think it's unfair to say that one is human of he or she is wild and do sin left and right while those who try to be righteous are not humans and hypocrites.

+1 yWell, truth is human are hypocrites; has nothing to do with religion and church.
Now, church is filled with a bunch of phonies as anyone can enter a church weekly and join a membership.
True Christians don't live a life of hypocrisy though.
Jesus taught there will be tares ( fakes) among the wheat (real Christians).
10 Reply So by your logic you have to be perfect to critique a following? That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've read all week. Clearly you have never been to church because I can guarantee you Sunday worshipers do exist and that pov is entirely justified
11 Reply- +1 y
That’s not what I said, I said “NO one is perfect.” When you say you don’t go to church because people who attend regularly are hypocrites, you’re not actually saying you’re perfect, you’re just implying it. Why do I say you’re implying it? rather you admit to implying it or not (Because the truth never changes no matter how you choose to say it) well because everyone is naturally a hypocrite and by pushing hypocrisy on one group of people because of your own emotional and personal feelings (Although that statement is true) it deludes you from the reality of the nature of human beings naturally being hypocrites. Essentially, all you’re doing, rather consciously or unconsciously, is feeding your own ego. Why is that? Well because it makes you feel more superior than those church goers that you call hypocrites (Though many won’t admit that) but the desires of the heart can never truly be hidden. They can be masked by how you calculate your actions/moves but they can never be fully locked away. MEANING, when you make such a statement without evaluating the true nature of yourself first as well, since you clearly can do it so well with others, that makes the statement hypocritical thus making you a hypocrite, thus as I said before (We all naturally are). Not going to church is a personal choice and you don’t need to give anyone a reason beyond yourself or God (If you believe in God) as to why you don’t go. So when you go out of your way to say that’s the reason you don’t go, it shows you’re speaking from a “self” point of view and not seeing the bigger picture.
I’m not sure it’s hypocritical, but it is often a bad-faith argument. It’s easier to not be a hypocrite if one makes one’s own standards, so pointing out hypocrisy is a natural vector of attack against religious people.

02 Reply- +1 y
That’s all I’m saying. Lol like you can call church goers hypocrites because a lot of people in church are, even myself and I would say that about myself even if didn’t go to Church because by nature, we feel more superior when we say something righteous that doesn’t interfere with our own personal wrong doings. We tend to get amnesia when we play a role in hypocrisy ourselves while being hypocrites and calling other people hypocrites also while putting a certain group of people in a box of hypocrisy. Like “Hey. Stay away from there. They’re hypocrites.” Pointing at the church with the smell of liquor lingering on them while also saying “They’re gonna judge you if you go in there because REMEMBER. They’re hypocrites.”
Opinion Owner+1 yyeah i know we all are so am i in certain areas. but choosing to accept it and learn from it is all we can do
It can be, yeah. Usually the people who are so eager to criticize religious people are atheists who get their own smug sense of superiority out of it.

You don’t have to believe in God to be a hypocrite.
- +1 y
They’re basically saying they don’t go to church because the church is filled with hypocrites (Which is true) even I’m a hypocrite, but everyone is a hypocrite so you’re a hypocritical unbeliever of God calling believers of God hypocrites as well. Making that statement hypocritical.
- +1 y
I never said you did however the person saying Christians are hypocrites is not necessarily being hypocritical.
First off, it is important to note that calling Christians hypocritical does not necessarily mean that the person speaking is claiming to be morally superior themselves. Instead, it could be a statement meant to highlight what they see as a contradiction between the beliefs and actions of certain Christians. In this case, the person is not necessarily being hypocritical, but rather expressing their opinion on a particular issue.
Yep. I do think its bizarre how most people my age will fly into a rage if someone utters the words "Bible study".
