Just curious if anybody believes or just thinks about it. What if in theory life recycles itself, over and over again?

I'm agnostic, a bit of a nihilist, and a bit of a hedonist.
I lean towards the belief of reincarnation and the existence of a soul. My family is pretty much all Catholic/Christian, but I feel like it's an outdated belief with enough evidence that proves it's nonsense.
I have looked into many stories about reincarnation and it seems to be pretty consistent.
One of the most famous figures in the investigation of reincarnation is Dr. Ian Stevenson, a psychiatrist and professor at the University of Virginia. Over several decades, he meticulously researched cases of children who claimed to remember past lives. His work is considered among the most credible in this field due to the methodical and thorough nature of his investigations.
Stevenson and his colleagues studied over 2,500 cases where children reported memories of previous lives, often describing verifiable details about people, places, and events that they had no logical way of knowing. His studies involved traveling around the world to interview children, verify their claims, and document the evidence.
Examples of Reincarnation Stories:
James Leininger (U. S.)
Story: James Leininger, from Louisiana, began having nightmares at the age of 2 about being a fighter pilot. He would scream about his plane crashing and being shot down. His parents were initially skeptical, but over time, he gave incredibly specific details about World War II aircraft and missions. James spoke of being shot down by the Japanese and even gave the name of a ship he was on, "Natoma Bay." Upon investigation, the parents discovered a pilot named James Huston, who had indeed been shot down in WWII, and many details matched James Leininger's accounts.
Shanti Devi (India)
Story: In 1930s India, Shanti Devi, at the age of 4, claimed to have lived in a city called Mathura and described her past life as a woman named Lugdi Devi. She provided intricate details about her family, the house she lived in, and events that took place in that lifetime. Her case became famous when her story reached Mahatma Gandhi, who set up a committee to investigate her claims. The committee was able to verify much of what she said, including personal facts about Lugdi Devi’s family.
The Case of the Pollock Twins (U. K.)
Story: In 1957, two sisters, Joanna and Jacqueline Pollock, tragically died in a car accident. A year later, their mother gave birth to twins, Gillian and Jennifer. As the twins grew up, they began to recall details about their deceased sisters' lives, including recognizing places their sisters had visited. Interestingly, Jennifer also had birthmarks that matched Jacqueline's, something seen as significant by those investigating reincarnation. By the age of 5, the twins lost most of these memories, which aligns with many cases where children’s past-life memories fade as they grow older.
Based on many stories like this that I've read online, I'm inclined to believe there is a soul and a concept of another plane of existence that we don't quite understand. However, it's definitely not substantial evidence to prove anything for sure.
Look at the world. The idea, as I understand it, of reincarnation is that you learn in one life so you don't make the same mistakes in the next until the earth is a paradise.
So the two most destructive wars in human history were us doing it right where we'd screwed up in the past?
Creating man-made plagues that kill indiscriminately?
I think it's much more likely that we get one try here and if we don't learn from the mistakes of our ancestors then we repeat them. As a cycle.
Babylon fell to Persia. Persia to Greece. Greece to Rome. Rome to the Barbarian Horde and so on. The first Empire in History that didn't fall to a superior military force was the British Empire, and it disbanded itself and created the Commonwealth of Nations.
No. Reincarnation is ultimately defeated by its own premises.
I actually believe. Not that our souls are reborn as such but the energy that gives us life. I base this on the world is attune to recycling its energy and matters. Water recycles through condensation, evaporation, rainfall etc. Dead things decay and are recycled by worms and bugs into useful matter again that spawns new life. Air recycles. Probably other examples. But for me it makes sense that that "spark" that nobody understands is some energy type that is reused to create new life.
A have an issue with the idea of heaven. The idea countless zillion numbers of souls would be forever up there? To appease heaven believers I summize that maybe a person gets to go heaven for a number of years before being "recycled" as new life lol.
But generally... I think it's just about chemicals and energy.
Probably, no one will ever know the truth because if it does happen they won't remember it occurred.

A friend of mine believes reincarnation is not only possible, but has experienced past-life regression therapy and swears by it. He said one of his past lives was a prostitute in the old American west and he understood a great deal about women because of that experience. He’s a good guy, very spiritual, and I’m not opposed to the idea of reincarnating and finding new lives to live so we can learn new things. The main question is do we recycle souls because that’s all we can do, or do we learn these lessons for some ultimate goal we can’t see yet?
I think we will find it out in next two or three life cycles when technology will be capable to build neural artificial devices which are at least capable as human brain. When AI that runs on such device won't reach a sentient state without a program it means being aware of own existence is more than just processing power.
Otherwise we just die and there is nothing, but In our universe there is something that was created from nothing also recreated or reincarnated.
It’s an undeniable fact, actually.
Applying the laws of physics as we understand them, matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. We are an amalgamation of both. When we die, our matter and our energy must convert. Unfortunately, modern embalming and burial techniques drastically diminish our ability to become something that is actually useful to the planet and those who survive us. Otherwise, the “circle of life” continues as we are transformed.
Its kind of scary to think.. like say it's true... it sure as hell it probably is.. but I'm sure we can't choose or have a say in how it goes down.. do I want to be conscious that I'm a hawk or spider.. or shark.. for an hour.. ok a day ... but what.. suddenly zap I'm dead or next thing I know I'm your cat.. cool for a bit.. but something permanent.. noooo
👀👀👀👀😋🥳🥳😛😮😈 someone finally shares a question I've been wondering myself in the last few years and into my future ahead - you know what ever happens after this lifetime for people much like the Queen talking about if life was long or short, I mean hell I do wonder if souls go anywhere if anywhere lol 😂😆 and if forever or never lol 😂 you know, 'souls' if they exist. Even without brains 🧠👀
I certainly hope it would not be having to exactly relive life in reality - aka it's more like a 'realm' that looks like a duck quacks like a duck except it's a better duck than the previous duck - the lights are on in the city yet no one else is home I Am Legend lol :P or Omega Man lol 😆😆😆
I'm a nonbeliever but i did actually research this a bit... and what i concluded is that it also doesn't quite work. it doesn't take into account population growth and unsurprisingly it seems most claims are focused in areas of the world with religions that believe in this. just seems like a case of confirmation bias and wishful thinking.
So no in my view this is our one and only life we live so lets make the most of it.
Yeah its just anecdotal to me. i don't see anything concrete
I got my healthy dose of skepticism of the supernatural from a man named the Amazing Randy. no one was able to demonstrate beyond all doubt anything supernatural or paranormal with his one million dollar challenge: en.wikipedia.org/.../One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_Challenge
It's not that im not 'open minded' its that i still have yet been able to see anything that A: already has a robust, sound scientific explanation or B: doesn't have one YET... key word 'yet.' And i think its faulty logic to fill in that explanation with whatever people feel like to justify their beleifs. we oughtta let empirical and logical evidence lead us unbiased to wherever it goes instead.
In short: show me evidence and we'll see.
and im not saying anyone else has to agree with me by the way. if you believe then by all means continue to do so... but i just can't see eye to eye on this. and i don't see myself ever doing so either. i always leave the possibility open though.
No. The only possible form of immortality would be something like a "brain molt" where people redo adolescence every 20 years or so, and forget much of their life before each adolescence much as people usually forget most of their childhood.
Reincarnation is possible, but we would need a different set of rules to explain population growth. Reincarnation implies population would remain fairly consistent.
I never failed an exam.
Because I was prepared.
To hope for one other chance looks to me like an attempt to cheat.
In this century, cheating is indeed an option. If it works... time will show.
Sure. But the idea is that the soul comes back numerous times to learn more and to work through so called karma. There is reason behind it.
It's a good concept but even if I want to believe it, I don't think it matters because when you reincarnate you start fresh with no memories of the past, so you are technically living a new life not a reincarnated one.
i mean if you define the circle of life very loosely, some of the material that you are currently made off, will at some point be part of another form of life. actually that is already happening while you are alive.
If it were, why does the human population keep increasing? In theory, the population should remain constant if life is recycling itself.
Or then it confirms that the "souls" are instead going to a separate place, a separate realm - or maybe that expands why Space is always expanding and seemingly endless Space you know, galaxies 🌌🚀 mystery mystery lol - or its not visible even without Space 🚀
I suppose it's as possible as anything else. It makes as much sense as Heaven and Hell. But nobody knows.
That is a spiritual topic so a spiritual teacher who knows spirit world said in bible we die once. So can't reincarnation to die more.
I believe reincarnation and karma are related, so it can happen, but not always.
Maybe but I suppose people forget their past lives so it’s the same as not being born again. If someone could remember a past life, that would be real reincarnation
If we have no memory of past lives, what does "reincarnation" even mean?
No. It would require a steady state universe to exist - which is not what we have.
There have been several occasions where I'm in a certain place and I feel like I was there before, even though I know I never was in this life
It is not logically impossible and is thus within the realm of possibility.
@Kayla45 If life recycles, then time would be in loop. Which I doubt
Well I do actually I think what happens when your born it is what happens after death it seems most logical to me...
Yes, it's possible, because human mind is a form of energy, and we all know that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another (Albert Einstein).
I really hope not. Very few things would suck more
I'd want to be a cat in my next life
of course anything is possible
There's no reason to assume so
They say anything is possible.
all things are possible if you believe
Steve Jobs apparently was once quoted "apparently" as stating something like 'he never liked on off switches on apple devices, as he was sometimes 50/50 sentimental if there's life after death or any meaning to on/off" 🖥️💻 surely a smart engineer knows
No , .
Not likey
