***Jesus is the Reason for The Season. xxoo
I'd ask, "what gave you that idea?" . A lot of people these days just repeat what they hear, they don't actually go through the process of critical thinking and evaluating diverse options that are solidly founded..
And ik a lot of people say that ok 25 of dec isn't the accurate date of Jesus birth... But let's imagine that's true. It doesn't matter all that much because it's not about the number of the day but the symbolic meaning of celebrating it.
If a family member came and told me a thing like that I'd just want them to tell me why they say this, what did they hear or read about it. It's important to have a conversation about it, because I care about them and I want to ensure they are carrying themselves with well founded and healthy beliefs and principles
I would pray for them and point them to the bible. Worst case scenario, I'd shake the dust off my sandles, but still pray for them.
Thank you for the MHO ❤
I would agree to an extent. The early Catholic church did choose Dec 25 to celebrate Jesus' birth in order to turn the Roman, pagan holiday, Saturnalia into a Christian celebration. It is highly unlikely that Jesus was born in winter.
People around the world had celebrations around the winter solstice. And some of their traditions like Christmas trees, holly, mistletoe, Yule logs, Santa Claus and elves, caroling, gift giving, and festivities carried over when they became Christianized.
But Christmas is still a Christian holiday. It's called Christ-mas, after all. It is when "Christians" celebrate the birth of Christ.
So saying that Christmas is a pagan holiday is inaccurate, misguided, deliberately provocative.
Santa Clause was always about Christ, the true story of Santa Clause was about a Turkish people priest that saved girls endangered of becoming prostitutes and he beat up pimps.
He would gift their fathers a dowery, now guys pay to keep paying for women/relationships whether or not it works out.
L
@Oncewildtwiceburned. It goes back further than that.
Odin is said to have flown through the sky on a chariot pulled by his eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, delivering gifts to children.
Odin is known as "Jólnir" (the Yule figure) and "jálfaður" (Yule-father). The Vikings believed Odin would visit homes during Yule, the Norse Christmas season.
Children would leave hay and carrots in their boots for Odin's horse to eat while he brought treats.
Odin knew who had been good or bad and would hunt down or abduct those who deserved it.
Other influences on Santa Claus include: Saint Nicholas of Myra, and The Dutch Sinterklaas.
I would just write them off as not worth listening to. EVERY holiday there are people who mention that it has a pagan history.
In history, everything affects everything else. You could not find many things that didn't have some kind of pagan influence. Just like you could not find many things that did not have hundreds of other influences.
Just because I have an oak tree in my yard does not mean my yard has druid influences. But with every holiday there are people who insist on making that kind of reference.

I'd politely inform them that , historically, the end of December was once a pagan holiday, until the early Christians decided to celebrate that time as the birth of Chrust.
I was going to comment something similar and I agree with Dongie. I'm Christian too, and pretty much that's it in regards to the birth of Christ. You had to get many people to accept Christianity as they had their other gods and customs. Like we Slavs had Perun who was replaced by St. Elijah. Something like that. Anyway, Easter is the most significant day for Christians as it is the belief in the resurrection which makes Christians Christian.
@Dongie I like the Tower of Babel story, and the flood, they both explain the bottleneck event in genetics and migration patterns of humans. We all developed our similar but unique religions cultures and languages
Christmas is very much a pagan holiday as is Easter. The Christians- until Constant were one of a thousand ! mystery religions in that area of a Palestine and became successful because they were smart enough to allow existing pagans to keep their high holidays, most of which involved resurrection of crops and sun starting to stay up later. Other similar religion entries to force the days of the ho! I days to be when they thought appropriate. Christianity decided yoo allow the ! asses to keep the dates and days of their celebrations. e. h. Saturn alia to occur concurrent with Christianity just adding its own brand of hocus picks onto those days.
It was yuletide by its old name. The Pope amalgamated a lot of holidays into one "mass for christ" later Christmas, so that it could be an equal holiday accross the Roman Empire.
Neither Jesus, his half brothers, or his parents ever celebrated Christmas. Also Jesus was born around spring, not winter.
I once - and only once - dated a girl who was an adherent of Jehovah's Witness. She delighted in telling me that Christmas was a pagan holiday, Jesus didn't really die on a cross, and other statements that were quite infuriating. Never again!
What'd ya get her for her birthday? 🤔😉 IYKYK
@DrPepper12 As I recall, I took her out to dinner and that was all I did.
Smart move. Birthdays violate God's law... 🙄
Christmas is NOT a pegan holiday, but it WAS grafted on to the existing Winter Solstice celebration, and some of the traditions were incorporated. This was a conscious subversive tactic to convert the masses, and it was largely successful. Still, that doesn't make it a pegan holiday. The Winter Solstice celebration was the pegan holiday.
Then I'd say their historical knowledge is very incomplete. Christmass has elements of pagan tradition yes, but it is actually foundationally Christian deriving from the celebratory event of Christ-mass originally from the Byzantine empire. Things like the christmass tree and other details have traces of pagan traditions yes, like the Norse burning of the Yule log, but it was a way of making the Faith palatable and less foreign to recently converted nations.
It is a Christian holiday. It just has roots in the many pagan celebrations of the winter solstice. Particularly in Northern countries, there has always been something to mark the shortest day. A reason to all gather round in the deepest winter and celebrate family and another year. What better time for a new religion to celebrate the birth of its key figure?
Nothing wrong with that. Pretty much everything is based on something else.
I don't understand the argument!
If one celebrates it as a Christian holiday, to them it's a Christian holiday, if someone chooses to celebrate it as a pagan holiday then to them it's a pagan holiday.
It's about the intent.
I agree, very well presented 👍
No. Jesus is obviously the reason. It is on the wrong day of His birth. I've read it's probably in April.
It's very commercialized and all about money on the face of it. But Christians celebrate it a bit differently than non-Christians do. It also reminds Christians and others of His sacrifice.
I wonder, do atheist use the benefit of gifts and great food as a reason to go along and celebrate with the rest of us?
As far as I know, in the first century they only celebrated Passover, then after separation from Judaism, Easter: Nicene council suggested another date. All the other Christian feasts emerged from expansion and partial mixture with heathen culture.
I mean…. We don’t know when Jesus was actually born and I thought the original Church of Christianity made the date Christmas to compete with other religions & get people to convert?
P. S. I’m not saying it isn’t a Christian Holiday and I’m not saying it isn’t a Pagan Holiday,
What I Am Saying Is, Jesus didn’t select that date though the religion is based around him so however you slice it enjoy the Holiday Season.
JUST a pagan holiday? No. A tandem holiday with Saturnalia & MANY other solstice festivals? Yes!! Jesus wouldn't even recognize "Christians" today and the christo-fascists would deport him ASAP! The early church adopted MANY pagan beliefs, symbology, holidays & rites.
I would get some holly water.. learn Latin so I could exercise the demon. May the power of Christ compel you.
That depends if they are tears of joy or sadness...
Saying that makes no sense. The celebration of Christ's birth is a thing unto itself. That said, the celebration of THAT is thought to have been moved to coincide with the Celebration of Saturnalia, a long running Roman Holiday. There's some scholarly consensus this was likely done by Emperor Domitian of Rome (AD 51-96) as a display of his power as well as to placate the believers of all sides.
It’s definitely not but it is too commercialized and not what it should be, like families getting together or going to church and other things for it really is is
Yes that too
Midwinter was celebrated for millennia before Christianity was invented. Many people celebrate with no reference to Jesus. Christmas is just a name for the date.
I wouldn’t not believe them but even if it’s true, it’s become something so much better than that. It is a time where the American people can come together and just enjoy life
Does the Bible ever mention Jesus’ birthday? Like an exact date
Most Christian holidays were adapted from pagan ones as a means to get them to convert.
I would feel that we are both Christians but have different religious beliefs. There is some evidence in the Bible that Jesus was born in the summer but I just love Christmas and I don’t want to give it up.
I would probably choke on my longdrink. Nobody I know would say something like that.
Because it is. At 24.12. the day becomes noticeably longer. It's day of the sun.
Winter solstice was celebrated by every pagan European culture because it's significant event on any calendar system. Celebration of this day is probably thousands of years older than Christianity.
Well it kind of is. The date and almost all the traditions were co-opted by the church. There’s nothing wrong with saying it. It’s a historical fact.
Sure, that’s the reason for Christmas. But it’s not the reason Christmas is celebrated on 25 December.
I'd say well done, you did your history right.
We are pagan so... ut wouldn't bother me at all.
I would agree... because no one knows when exactly Christ was born... and the church wanted to take other holidays away, so they created their own on top of holidays of other beliefs...
winter solstice was never a Christian holiday...
Yeah I'd agree, most holidays that happen around a new season are stolen from pegans
Yeah probably probably I don't know the history of that holiday though
Well the origins are, that's why JW people don't celebrate it,,,
Jehovah Witnesses lol
@allaboutyou2 yes!
Wouldn't affect me, as a lot of even so-called Christians celebrate it as such.
I wouldn't care.. that is their issue and not my problem..
Eh, anyone taking religious shit that seriously is a red flag
There are a few Christian holidays that coincide with pagan holidays. Centuries past that was done to attempt to get pagans into church to hear the message of Jesus Christ. But to me over the years the pagan parts (Santa, Easter Bunny, Halloween etc.) watered down the message is Jesus Christ. If you invite the Devil in, he will come….
Hello Paris, how are you?
It is listed on the Church calendar as the mass to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christmas IS a pagan holiday and technically Christianity is a death cult
Impossible because we emphasize Jesus DEFEATED death. It is a faith emphasized life.
A major faith is "god revived jesus from dead".
I'm not religious but I know for a fact that Christmas is not a pagan holiday, but it's based on pagan holiday (Winter Solstice).
Yes, Read That. xx
Well look into and prove them wrong or prove them right. Countless popular holidays came from the Pagan's. Just saying
Hello Paris... Human Earth Waves A Hand From Across The Room
Being a Pagan, I would agree.
This happened i just smile to them.
I'd agree with them lol
Whomp whomp
Wouldn't care :)
I'm well aware it is.
I'd say, "No Christmas presents for you or Christmas dinner either.
doesn't matter... we're both there for the BBQ... lol
I STILL won't vote for her.
I would feel like let's agree to disagree
I'm agnostic so I wouldn't really care. Lol! I just like putting up pretty trees and giving people gifts.
I'm not super religious so I would ask them more about why they think that
The hint is kinda right there in the name!
I would say they are right
I'd say,"And?"
I mean it is. Saturnalia and the Gregorian calendar was adjusted for it.
I don't care what anyone else thinks
🙏
It is a pegan holiday
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs.
each to their own.
I'd say leave the Christians alone
I agree, it's called Yuletide.
