Why did it take the Pope so long to do this after so many horrendous atrocities?

I hate to break it to you, but in regards to these "dark dealings", Pope Francis has done exactly nothing. In fact, there are things in which he has been fully complicit, even as pope. These weren't just mistakes or imprudent decisions from his distant past. Pope Francis has, at best, a questionable record when it comes to dealing with sex abuse. He has promoted, defended, restored, or excused a good number sexual predators or their enablers.

The latest instance is his elevation of Cardinal Robert McElroy, the current bishop of San Diego, to Washington DC. McElroy, as bishop of San Diego, blocked a police investigation into Jacob Bertrand, a priest who was also a literal Satanist and was ritually abusing a young woman named Rachel Mastrogiacomo. This is real. Look it up. There is no way, NO... WAY I tell you that Francis didn't know about this after 2022 at least, when Francis made McElroy a cardinal in the first place.

By the way, why did Pope Francis make McElroy, an extreme liberal and Irish white guy born in San Francisco a cardinal instead of the archbishop of the larger and more influential diocese of Los Angeles, Jose Gomez, a conservative and immigrant from Mexico?

And again, that's just the most recent example. I can think of at least four or five other cases that have happened while Francis has been pope. If he were to come our publicly, fully repent of the evils that he has promoted and enabled, and then act on it (meaning he redirects his condescending wrath for traditionalists and conservatives and instead focuses it towards the predators and enablers that he's covered up for and order them to lives of prayer and penance... for starters), then I'll believe him.

Thanks for MHO. Though it brings me no joy or pleasure to discuss this. I welcomed him very happily and enthusiastically in 2013. Nowadays? Let's just say that "disappointed" is entirely too kind.
