From 2020 there were 80% of the world's population identifying with a religion.
The main aim of the people they worship is to create peace in the world.
If the religions came together 80% of the world would live peacefully.
I can't believe just because they're not religious the remaining 20% are advocating War.
So we all want peace so the solution is simple, let's all live peacefully with one another!
Wars in ancient times - Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Huns, Mongols, etc. - were all about conquest, empire and spoils. They had nothing to do with religion.
It was Judeans who invented stories about their ("one, true") God supposedly authorizing Hebrews to conquer Canaan and neighboring kingdoms. As far as I know, that was the first time religion was used as an incentive for people to murder and plunder.
Later, the Holy Roman Empire in Europe started pogroms against "pagans" and even fought wars over differences in Christian dogma. They spread Catholicism across Europe by force.
Islam began in Arabia in the early 7th century. It spread primarily through a combination of rapid military conquest and voluntary conversion over centuries, rather than widespread forced conversion. While Muslim armies conquered vast territories (Syria, Egypt, Persia), they generally allowed non-Muslims (Jews, Christians) to practice their faith upon paying a tax (jizya). Conversion was typically voluntary, driven by trade, Sufi missionaries, and social mobility.
The crusades were initiated by Pope Urban II to capture Jerusalem. There were eight major expeditions spanning from the late 11th century to the late 13th century.
Why? Muslims weren't preventing pilgrims from visiting.
The Spanish Inquisition, which began in the late 15th century and spread across Europe, was horrific.
The Protestant reformation came along in the 16th century and wars were fought between Protestants and Catholics. Anglicanism was particularly savage.
Then there was the conquest of the Americas by the Spanish. Slaughter and enslavement was justified by religion.
So yeah, thanks to the so-called "Abrahamic" religions, war, conquest and slaughter was justified by God.
Things changed with the American and French revolutions, which were wars of liberation, not religion. Since then, many wars have been fought to gain independence from colonial powers.
WWI, WWII and the Russian Revolution were secretly engineered by the British to destroy competition.
A backlash against "westernism" in North Africa happened in the 1980s as a result of decades of colonial rule and exploitation. That backlash was also due to the creation of the colonial state of Israel with its treatment of Palestinians and belligerence against neighboring countries.
Muslims, Christians and Jews lived in harmony in that region before Zionists created a racist, theocratic state and began characterizing Muslims and Arabs as savage, "antisemitic" terrorists in order to justify killing and driving them out.
So, it was Zionists who once again introduced religious animosity as justification for war and brutality. And uninformed people in the west buy into the propaganda that Muslims, not Israelis, are the aggressors.
Since the establishment of the Rothschild empire, pure profit has been a prime cause of perpetual war. Bankers, multinational corporations, arms manufacturers and politicians get richer and more powerful.
The USA, which became the new British Empire after WWII, is the greatest beneficiary and, therefore, has to keep creating enemies in order to justify the perpetuation of war and expansion of its empire.
It uses propaganda to get public support by keeping people fearful of attack. And Biblical narratives are one of the propaganda weapons.
Are you forgetting the Meso American civilizations practicing barbaric acts to appease their deities against neighboring groups? And that the Spanish were viewed as the lesser of the many evils during that era? Or that the Ottomans forcibly converted many captured slaves to Islam, and many atrocities they committed were also under that religion?
@bingbongbangbung. The Meso Americans weren't fighting over differences in religion. They sacrificed captives to appease the gods. Hell, they sacrificed their own people, too.
I don't know where you got the idea that the Spanish were considered the lesser evil, though. I think the people quickly discovered that torture, execution and slavery wasn't so great.

But that goes to what I said about the Abrahamic religions. Judeans, Christians and Muslims fought wars over religion, not just for empire.
There will never be peace. Humans stagnate and would die off without something to strive for, but this also means that some will do better than others, and some of the people with less will use violence to take it instead of earning it. That's been true for all of known human history, and is observable in every other species on Earth - except it's just seen as fighting for food or territory or resources when applied to non-humans.
Big fish eat small fish. Big predators eat small predators. And even among the predators, there is conflict and fighting and status. That's what life is. The competition is what makes life resilient enough to survive and adapt when conditions change.
Religion provided something to strive for. If religion teaches to those who have less "not to do violent" then what is the problem?
Well, I'm here to say that when the Vietnam war was happening, and the hippie generation was in full swing, everything was about! ✌🏼 Everytime you saw someone the two of you would give each other the peace sign as shown above.
There was also this peace sign ☮️ that was extremely popular and people made jewelry and posters and all kinds of things shaped like this peace sign.
The hippie generation had the right idea and made it perfectly clear that they were for PEACE! And LOVE as well.
I was living in San Francisco California at the time and was hanging out right in the heart of the hippie generation. I was, and still am a hippie!
So, peace ✌🏼 ☮️ and love ❤️ to all of you and to the world! 🌎
Because I believe that power lies in the hands of individuals that want more power no matter the cost. Peace is not a priority. Money and greed however is.

In the first place, it's because no two groups of people can agree on whose god is the best. it's just a big dick waving contest and if you think your dick is better than mine, I'm gonna kill you!! ALL religion is ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT and ALL RELIGION SHOULD BE BANNED FOREVER!!! Secondly, war makes rich people even richer because they own the companies that build the bombs and machines that get used to kill people! If they're not selling product, they'll try to start a war to be able to sell their stuff!!
The instinct of life is to destroy other life. War among living being happens already on microscopic level on our planet. Maybe on other planets exists life that doesn't want to steal resources of other life forms. Maybe it evolved over billion of years to peaceful intelligent beings. God be merciful for those beings when we meet them.

I'm not religious, but I would support peace in our world, the problem is - many religions support wars (since the crusades).
But the aim of the religions they worship is peace, therefore something has gone wrong with the message they are interpreting.
I agree, the main problem is interpretation. For example, the Pope might be against wars, but many of his believers are misinterpreting the Bible. The same goes for Muslims, and other religious people.

Apparently, they can. Some of the most horrible crimes were committed by religious people (crusaders, inquisitors, conquistadors, zealots, mujahideen, KKK, talibans etc)... generally speaking - people who believe in Abrahamic religions (no wonder, considering Abraham himself was quite a disturbing person).
On the other hand, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Wicca - are quite peaceful.
But we are now living in an enlightened world, while previously we were not.

Those that are not enlightened can colonise the Moon and Mars, and continue their bickering there instead of here on Earth.

I'm pleased too, but did you realise 80% of the world identifies with a religion, and some religions are expanding, and millions of people today would disagree with you about living in a peaceful society.
But isn't religion supposed to bring about peace?
Hopefully our societies remain peaceful, but why should any innocent people have to face their homes being destroyed in this day and age.
80+% in my country identify with a religion too, mainly Catholicism and Protestantism, but it's more from a perspective of religious heritage than a practiced religion.

Registered church members pay church tax, tithes you can give voluntarily at the collection box. Neither is required from you to visit churches or to participate at divine service.
If people would just treat others like they want to be treated we could have peace in our world. 😊

Humans are not hardwired to be peaceful. There is a survival instinct and the fact that people are selfish.

@MrChinaski it was indeed all of the things you said and worse. I think there were other factors at play besides the simple presence of some odd form of socialism. I'm not sure that the imposition of capitalism has improved any of it very much, since capitalism seems to be so prone to corruption, in that, capitalism seems to lead to concentrated wealth in just a few hands, which in turn seems to lead to things like regulatory capture, monopoly, and the like. I would be in favor of a blend of Socialism and Capitalism except that Capitalism and its results seem to always corrupt Capitalism. We need to figure out something to stabilize all of this and to eliminate the corruption problem. I don't really have any good answers. Do you?

I think socialism does work in many places. It certainly works in several of the Nordic countries and it definitely works in Vietnam. I think what makes it look like it doesn't work. Is that in a number of places historically? And even now it also is afflicted with essentially fascist political systems. When you combine socialism a fascist political system. It turns into a nightmare but that is also true of capitalism as we here in the US are finding out right now.
You are completing the effects of corruption with the effects of socialism and those things simply do not have a lot to do with each other. On the other hand, corruption and capitalism go hand in hand. In socialism when a large group of people are involved in government and social affairs, it is difficult to steal because others are observing you and the whole system fairly regularly. Capitalism this is not the case either because in capitalism wealth is concentrated for the most part in just a few people and those few people often can steal with impunity simply because they are not being observer or because they have the ability to bribe others to ignore their activities. We see this a lot here in the United States where public officials have been bribed by wealthy individuals to overlook the theft of those wealthy individuals. Vulnerability to corruption is the Achilles heel of capitalism.

You seem to have an idea of socialism as some sort of nirvana. Such a nirvana has never existed, as I said earlier, on a scale larger than a kibbutz.
Socialism is state control of the means of production. That's the definition.
China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of abject, dirt-eating poverty through capitalism. The same story with Vietnam.
The Nordics are capitalist economies with strong social welfare programs. They are not socialist.
Soviet Russia was probably the clearest example of socialism in action. People stayed poor, technology stagnated outside of a handful of state-sponsored sectors (nuclear energy, rocketry), power was concentrated in the hands of apparatchiks, 20 million people were sent to Gulags.
North Korea is the clearest example today. Is that what you aspire to?
It scares me that people see the mayhem caused by errant leaders in capitalist economies and decide the solution is to turn away from capitalism to a system that concentrates power more completely and produces poverty... and only ever has done.
Democracy is the force that is supposed to nudge capitalism towards social goals. Governments should regulate appropriately. As far as I can tell, the US gave up regulating a quarter century or so ago. Other capitalist democracies have not ceded that power.
The US has become 'Wild West' capitalism again. That choice is not inevitable and is reversible.

@MrChinaski Vietnam has managed to avoid capitalism for the most part by imposing socialism, which treats most people more fairly. I have been to Vietnam and I have seen this. Have you also been there?
@MrChinaski I think a trip to Vietnam might change your mind about this. It's important to see up close and to experience what society is like there. Also, what commerce is like. The kind of propaganda that the U. S. promulgates has not abated one bit in relation to Vietnam or any of the countries in that area. That propaganda is not friendly to anything resembling socialism. It is very easy to be persuaded by 30 or 40 years of this.
Because we don't take the time to actually know love for what love is... instead we misunderstand and abuse it !
