Is charity and helping disabled people central in Jewish culture?

I notice that the previous Jewish Y studs singers would always film themselves volunteering at schools for disabled children, attending religious parties like Hanukkah or Passover, and praising the Creator.

I know that in China, honouring your elders is central to our culture, so I wonder if charity work and philanthropy with disabled people is central to Jewish culture.
