Why do many Christians think anyone deserves eternal suffering?

It's people like you that reject the offer and choose to suffer... Christians didn't do it to you, they gave you the good news and you turned your back on them.

Clearly you are aware Christians believe in God because you are the one posing questions of Christians, and you reject that concept despite all of the evidence in favor of God... In Christianity, hell is the absence of God. God is the light and the outer darkness is hell. When you choose to refuse God, you are worshiping yourself as God. You are pushing God away from you. That's exactly what you are doing. So your eternal torment an annihilation is by your own hands. You are doing it to yourself. Like the famous line by Milton in Paradise Lost, it's "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven". That's where you are at philosophically right now. You reject the premise of God and are self center... It doesn't end well for you.

Like I said you think you are a god. It's honestly pathetic, because morality comes from God. Morality's etymological definition is "a measure of goodness" and the word good literally derives from God.

To be good is to be like God. To be moral is how closely you are to God and your level of piousness. That is how well you follow God's law, is how moral you are. Even your language you steal directly from God while claiming you don't believe in God. You don't believe in God, but you will steal from God right? You'll steal from what you don't even believe exists? Your sense of morality comes directly from God. The principles of right and wrong within your society come from God. You take all of that belief and then attribute yourself as the creator of those principles. You know how fucking arrogant that is? You didn't come up with that on your own. You were taught that by people who believe in God, and that morality was taught to the ancestors of those people from God.

If you don't believe in God, then you can't believe in good. Thus you can not distinguish between good and evil. You can not have a measure of goodness, because you have no measuring stick. Thus you can not be moral.

Also, which morals are you talking about? Those given to you by the Bible? In that case:

Slavery is allowed
Selling your own child as a (sex-) slave is OK
If your son ever dares to speak back to you, you must have him stoned to death by the town elders.
If you get caught raping a virgin, all you need do is pay her father money. Then the virgin becomes your wife to do with as you please.
Believe it or not, all of the above is in the Bible. Are these the morals you want us to adopt?

This shows clearly that the only reason christians are not committing murder, is because the Bible says they’re not allowed to, and that if they do, they’ll be punished for it after death.

Basically, the reason they don’t commit murder is not because they understand it is wrong, not because they want to follow the “rules” that say they should not commit murder. It shows they are just afraid to be punished.

This doesn’t make them “moral people”, it makes them vile cowards, who are simply afraid by some made up punishment.

Atheists don’t commit murder because they understand it is wrong. THAT is morality.

humans are social animals, and discovered that living cooperatively with others helped us survive and was more fulfilling socially to us than being at odds with others. Plus, we started developing a system that simplified how we labeled actions that help humans flourish or harmed them, and called them “good” or “bad.”

My sense of morality is based on what enables people to live well, live freely, and flourish. I was taught this in my upbringing.

First you claim to have morality, then you run to empathy. Empathy derives from the Greek empatheia "passion, state of emotion". So in other words you are just a crybaby. Wah wah wah. So do you concede that you don't know what good is and you have no morality, that you are just a crybaby? It's also rich that you would call Christians cowards as well, considering a coward is "one who lacks courage to meet danger or shrinks from the chance of being hurt". You're the one running... Christians all through history have stood tall to defend their beliefs and many were willing to die rather as they were tortured and persecuted rather than turn against God.

Probably because (hot take... pun not intended) we all do. But because of the redemption won for us by Jesus Christ, we can instead attain eternal joy and beatitude.

In more cases than you may think, many Christians will accuse themselves quite harshly of sin. Review a traditional Catholic examination of conscience.

Now of course, no Christian should ever hope for or desire the damnation of a soul, nor should he or she ever pronounce such a judgment on another soul. But nonetheless, the knowledge that many will face such a fate ought to cause the faithful soul to remember the unsettling phrase, "There, but for the Grace of God, go I". And in a way, it also ought to cause one to hope that reflecting on this truth will move a faithful soul towards greater holiness and a wayward soul to conversion and repentance.

It’s not a matter of deserving eternal suffering. It’s a matter of earning grace. That’s how life works. If you don’t earn the good stuff, you get stuck with the bad stuff. Some faiths actually have a fairly straightforward path to grace. The real question is “Why do people think they deserve things that they haven’t earned?”. Maybe the next question should be “What should be the reward for all of that greed?”.
If you don’t want eternal suffering, earn grace.

Also, not everyone given damnation will be there eternally.

but that is not hell. bible never said 'if you sin the deal is fire burns your soul.'
in fact that law of whip contradicted a different tradition in rabbinic judaism so refuted that system.
until grace when faith is enough. then if you rejected god GIFT GRACE that is severe.
