Do demonic attacks target believers with a God-given calling?

A female who wanted to be a doctor told me that if the devil attacks you, it is because he knows you have an assignment God wants you to achieve and he is trying to stop you before you can fulfill that assignment.

I know a male / female with a powerful mission and purpose but they died by suicide before they could fulfill it. I am not going to mention their gender because I do not want their friends to know their death was a suicide.
