Marriage between relatives is not something Islam recommends; it is simply something it permits.

More than just having sex with your cousin, this practice has traditionally been common in rural communities where the idea is to keep families closely connected, know your in-laws well, and act together as a unified group. In other words, it's largely a tribal custom aimed at preserving kinship solidarity.

Europeans used to do it as well, although it was mostly associated with maintaining social class and noble bloodlines. The Habsburg jaw is a famous example.

On the other hand, same-sex marriage is worse than that.

In the UK cousin marraige is common with majority of muslims married to their cousin. Recent attempts to ban it was blocked in parliament by muslim mps and the NHS produced a panflet on the benefits of cousin marraige at the urging of muslims.

doesn't matter where it's legal or who is doing it, it's sick as fuck and they deserve to be shamed regardless of their religion. There are plenty in every religion who refuse to participate with certain aspects and those who gladly accept their religious tenets in whole.
