Is being obsessed with science and psychology better than religious fanaticism?

This might sound embarrassing but if you had to select between either of the two, isn't being a fanatic about using Google AI, reading scientific things and being interested in psychology better than be a religious fanatic, bible thumper?

I'm an atheist and my favorite topics are either about several scientific articles and anything that has to do with child psychology and their feelings. I guess I would be the polar opposite of the religious fanatical parents that uses bibles.

I'm not obsessed, but I place credence in science even though scientific claims aren't always conclusive. Science is the honest search for answers. Yes there are biases in the scientific community. Some scientists are bought and paid for. But the scientific method allows the search for knowledge to progress.

Religion, on the other hand, requires credulity. We are asked to have faith that fairy tales we are told are true. If some claim sounds absurd or is provably false, we are told to have faith that the claim is true because it was revealed to someone by God and they wrote it down. And we can't question God.

I question everything. I want provable facts.

So I'll take science. But I don't automatically believe scientific claims. They have to be provable.

Exactly. At least science can be challenged but religion can't. Religious people are close-minded and think that's the only single way to function.

No obsession is good. But for what it's worth, at least you'd know that the Earth revolves around the sun, instead of the other way around, as the Catholic church believed.

Science is basing on theories which can and even should be questioned, religions base on dogmas which you aren't allowed to question because fanatics will attack you.
When you're a free mind and you mental horizon goes a little bit beyond tip of your nose, there is no question what you will choose.

What do you mean by "obsessed with?" Do you just mean "keenly interested in?" That's how we gain deep knowledge.

You can phrase it in that manner too. Ever since having my son, I've been more interested in child psychology and healthy, mature approaches towards parenting.

I admit that ever since having my son, I've been more obsessed with child psychology and anything that has to do with treating my son as a human. I've even used Google AI about some possible scenarios where my son can challenge me during his upbringing and what the natural and logical consequences are.

yeah. I want to raise him differently than older generations did with the ''fear-based compliance, old school BS''. I was thinking about the Montessori method.

That's the only thing most of my family members know. If they had known how to actually parent other ways and taught me, I wouldn't be in the need to use two parenting books about healthier approaches nor use Google AI. I want to get it right.

yeah I've been lately arguing with religious, bible fanatics that think their way of raising kids is the only way to raise good citizens. Maybe I'm starting to sound like a ''science, psychology approach on kids'' fanatic too. I'm the polar opposite of those people. Yet the argument goes nowhere, lol.
