That's as daft as saying "should the medical opinion of a master mechanic be more esteemed?"

You need to realise that being a scientist or "master" in one discipline does in no way qualify you for all disciplines. Quite the opposite in fact, the better you are at one thing the worse you are likely to be at another.

I would take them seriously if they had evidence for their beliefs. But there’s so many religions with different ideas of Truth and what they deem to be evidence. “Look at that tree, do you believe that came about by accident?” Doesn’t come off as very convincing when any religion can just say that.

What scientists say should be seriously considered as long as what they say is in their area of expertise. In areas where they are laypersons their opinions should carry no more weight than any other lay person.
