I'm no expert on Jewish history but the Babylonians got things rolling around 600BC. The Egyptian Pharaohs and the Romans were probably not favorites back in the day. The Crusaders were probably on the asshole list beginning in the 11th century. England and Spain expelled Jews in the 13th and 15th centuries. Europeans blamed Jews for the Black Plague. In modern times at the turn of the 20th century Russians drove Jews out of that country. I'd imagine the folks behind the Holocaust were at the top of the most feared list. All in all it's been a rough 2 1/2 millennia for Jews.

After being expelled from Spain, many of them migrated to the Ottoman Empire because it was Muslim-ruled. Their mindset was essentially: "We'll pay the required tax, and in return our lives and property will be protected."

Since Jews were often Europe's only significant religious minority, it was easy to make them the scapegoat and direct public anger toward them. The Middle East, however, was far more diverse than many people assume. Muslims generally regarded Jews and Christians as People of the Book and, because of that, treated them with greater respect than other non-Muslim religious groups

Christians believed that they do exists to replace Judaism and... because of these roots in Christianity's antisemitism, which were the majority and base of so many nations in Europe... all other forms of antisemitism were fostered

so, it happened 2000 years ago... in early Christianity days, and it is still happening today
