For one thing, it is specifically condemned multiple times throughout both the Old and New Testaments.

For another, it would fall under the First Commandment, which is "Thou shalt not have strange gods before Me." It indicates a desire for power and authority over nature which is proper only to God. That and one is placing their trust in some other source than Divine Providence and Grace.

Following from that, if you ask strange gods (which the Bible also says are demons in Psalm 96), chances are they will want something back, namely your worship, trust, and ultimately, your soul.
