The pastor at my local church said this today. Whether you are spiritual or not it definitely rang true.

When I had people say and do nasty things to me in the past I (as anyone) usually judged the incident at surface value. Few exceptions would be if I already knew the person very well and knew they weren’t being themselves but were being negatively influenced by an outside circumstance.

However there have been other incidents where I tried to give the person the benefit of the doubt. But later got it confirmed they really are a POS and everything they said/did really did intention. When people refuse to apologize and/or gaslight then you know the truth about them. When that happens I cut them off and never look back. My self respect is more important is more than any friendship or relationship in that case.

But how patient are you with judging people?

I've been seeing a lot of Troll hating lately. Comments online such as 'they live in their mom's basement and have nothing better to do.' Comparisons of trolls to cockroaches, even from people who themselves spread misinformation and hatred without even being aware of it because they are convinced by their own bullcrap.

It seems a bit hypocritical to me, as certain online communities strive to create a loving and caring environment for its members. Trolls are members, too. So, let's put it to the test. Would you rather have dinner with:

Troll - an insincere yet amusing person who speaks off-topic

Moderator - an actual person who actually learns all the rules because they for some reason enjoy censorship and punitive actions, even though they have no real motivation except to feel important on an online environment, because they have no influence in the real world, and are often more guilty of information warfare than trolls
