If i fell in love with a single mom i wouldn't mind , i'd love her kid just as much as it was my own. I do think the biggest source of pain would be me not experiencing the birth , holding the baby in my arms for the first time , first words and so on which would probably make me depressed in a way , but i'd probably give it a shot and try persuading her trying to explain why i'd like a kid.
Have in mind before the opinion, i do understand she got left once with a kid and is afraid of it happening another time thats why i'd invest my time and emotions into trying to persuade her different. Eager to see your opinions :) !

I know, the first image is off but I want to make another point with reversed logic:
So suppose you average/single guys are those single red beetles. It's not like you reproduce more red beetles but more like your neighboring green beetles get into relationships with women much faster and much more often than your fellow red fellows. And then more red beetles are left in the dating pool and more red beetles are being born from various sources (broken families, poor families etc...), joining your category of being undesired.
Hence natural selection assures you will not succeed/score with women or somehow not reproduce.

Do YOU single-for-life or mostly single guys - even if just sometimes - think, that natural selection has selected you to deny this fortune of enjoying women?
