Why do we feel the need to not accept Constructive Criticism?

Why is it that we just can't seem to face a little bit of Criticism? Why do we dread hearing others ideas? To further my reasearch I asked a question which asked for your opinions on this topic, and many of you answered what it was, but nobody answered why we can't seem to accept it. Thus, I have a couple theories on the main reason why we can't seem to accept others opinions! After you finish reading, share your opinion on why you think we can't seem to accept it! :)


1. We dread hearing others opinions


All of us at some point had a ingenious idea! Of course, the first instinct is to gain others approval, and when someone sudgests we change something, we can't accept the idea, but why? The answer is simple, we like it how we want it, and don't want to change it. Why don't we want to change it? We think it is perfect the way it is, and would hate to change it for someone else.


2. Fear of being rejected


Pretend your sitting in a room preparing yourself for a huge presentation for 5 powerful workers. You came up with an idea of a new cereal. You have everything, the box design, the presentation, even the set - up! Yet, you don't exactly have the confidence, why? You feel as if your idea is going to be rejected. It's a great idea, although you need the approval of 5 workers, which can bring down your confidence greatly. The answer is difficult on this one, why do we feel as if we are rejected for a little bit of Criticism?

These 2 reasons are probably the biggest reasons on why we can't accept constructive criticism. Sometimes we just can't accept others ideas for the sake of it. Maybe it's just a horrible idea and we can't accept it, or its a good idea, but your worried it's going to ruin your amazing project. Why can't we accept others ideas?
