The title says it all. I am so over this whole business of some people saying, I don't define myself by a label, or I don't like labels, or I prefer not to be labeled. It's really getting old. I mean, if you don't want to be 'a label,' why is it when I then ask these same people who they are if not the label...oh I'm smart, I'm a human being, I'm funny, but I'm not (insert label). Guess what, all of those other descriptives and adjectives are labels too!
The thing about labels is we all have them, but a label is just a bunch of letters strung together to form some words. Throughout history many people have been labeled as something, and people have been prejudiced, sexist, and homophobic, or whichever ism towards them and it hasn't stopped them from living or going far beyond what they or the world precieves that label to be because they are just words. Not calling yourself something doesn't mean everybody else won't or that it isn't in fact true.
The don't label me crowd needs to collectively stop worrying about what everybody else thinks of them or what they think everyone eles thinks of them and just live whatever life it is they want rather then trying to spend endless discussions trying to defend the idea that they want to live a label free life because the reality is, its not going to happen. When you are living your authentic life, whatever that may be, the people in your life that care about you can see that, and those that can't aren't worth carrying about or bothering with. This is the lesson anybody should take with them in this life.

Nice take - I can see where you are coming from - People try so hard not to be something that they are not and group together to talk about how they are not a group - Ok I suppose we have to think we are a population of individuals living in a collective known as society - We are all different parts of that collective that interact to form a way of life - The way I look at it is we can both be individuals and part of sub groups or the total group, still having a constructive existence within ourselves and the groups.
In conclusion your point is very valid don't care so much what others think of you in reality I think the only person's view that is important is your impression of yourself and those who care about you. I wouldn't say don't care what others think but just don't put too much purchase on it unless you become close to them and they become important to you.
Depends what kind of label you're talking about. I agree with what I think you're saying here, but there are some exceptions in my view. Feminism is one of them. There seem to be a lot of women who support the feminism label without really understanding what it is today. By doing so they are really just giving credence to and a platform from which sexist, hateful women can monger their crap. Anyone who truly supports gender equality and fairness should not support the feminist label because they are not in fact supporting what they think they are.
i really don't understand what this is even about. what label?
some people don't want to be labeled as being a certain sex, gender, race, etc., instead they claim that they are undefined or don't live by that code because some people place an expectation on that.
lol -> "some people don't want to be labeled as being a certain sex, gender, race, etc..." hahaha!!! nigga we see you!!! :D
