If you're like me, then you'll more than likely be spending Valentine's Day alone. Guess what? That doesn't have to be a bad thing! I'm writing this Take for all you single guys and gals that may feel a little down this V-day. Read on!

Self Love

What's the main concept behind Valentine's Day? Love. When did love become subjective to just being between two people? It isn't. Of course when you think of V-day, you usually think of couples, but there is no rule that says that you can't celebrate alone. Or with friends. I think that's where a lot of people go wrong. They focus on people in relationships and they start to feel bad because they aren't in one. I know because I used to be one of those people. Here's why you should stop:

♡Comparing yourself will only make you feel worse

♡There's nothing wrong with being single

♡It's ok to celebrate yourself on Valentine's Day

I used to compare myself to all my friends that were in relationships whenever V-day rolled around and I was still single, yet again. It never helped me feel better. Always worse. It wasn't until I actually talked with my sister (who is married) about how I was feeling, that I realized how silly I was being. She's the one that reminded me that it was ok to celebrate yourself. And she was right.

We get so wrapped up in wanting a significant other, especially around holidays like Valentine's Day. A lot of people feel like they can't celebrate if they aren't involved with anyone. WRONG! There's this little thing called SELF-LOVE that we forget about way too often. A lot of people feel like they need to be in a relationship to feel love. You don't. Love yourself first! If you can't do that then you don't need a relationship.

Celebrate Your Way On Valentine's Day!

No more feeling sorry for yourself because you're single! Love is the main point of Valentine's Day and you are absolutely allowed to celebrate the love of yourself. Or the love for your friends. Or your pet (buy that pup a new bone!). Here are a few ideas:

♡Cook yourself a nice dinner (and then put on something nice to enjoy it in)

♡Host a girls/guys night (you could stay in or you could go out and paint the town red)

♡Treat yourself (this could be buying yourself some chocolate, a new video game, new shoes etc)

The possibilities are endless. Last year I did the dinner thing. I made myself some lasagna and homemade garlic bread. I got all dolled up in a nice outfit. And I enjoyed dinner by myself. This year I'm thinking of treating myself. I've got my eye on a new journal! 😉

I say all of this to basically say that it's ok to be single on Valentine's Day. You shouldn't feel any less because of it. It's a day specifically for love. That includes love of yourself, your friends, and love of your family. Focus on that. Spend the day loving yourself. Do something that you love. Be happy. ❤
