Everything Wrong With Third-wave Feminism

University is supposed to be a place of learning, sharing new ideas, and expressing yourself openly. Growing up in a Republican, Christian household, I had an ingrained belief system that I couldn't wait to share with others at the school I had enrolled in. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was certain that my beliefs, which I knew were in the minority, would be accommodated.

My first day as a freshman in University was exciting and refreshing before actually attending my first classes. In Sociology, Psychology, and Gender Studies in particular, what should have been a place of expressing differing points of view and coming to a peaceful resolution, was in fact a hostile environment for anyone that didn't agree with what the professor was teaching.

You're probably wondering what Feminism and University have in common in the context of my take, so I'll break it down nice and easily for you.

The Wage Gap

Is a myth, and seems to be one of the biggest arguments modern, Western feminists have. Because we're at an impressionable age in University, which is in our teens and early 20's, political campaigns and movements will immediately target us and pollute our brains with their own agenda. In school, it's nearly impossible to have your own opinion on this subject without being ridiculed, even by the professor that's presenting his or her information as fact.

Feminists argue that women earn 77 cents to the dollar that a man earns but don't take in to account men and womens' choice of work, how often they work, and how many vacations they choose to take. On average, women work more flexible hours with jobs that tend to pay less money. We also have a habit of getting pregnant and wanting to take more time off to spend with family than men do. Feminists argue that society forces women to make these choices. When was the last time somebody placed a gun to your head forcing you to get a degree in Arts?

Rape Culture Madness

According to every feminist ever, one in four women have been a victim of rape on campus, which said best by Milo Yiannopoulos, is more than the average woman in the Congo gets assaulted. The women reporting these incidents are on average lesbians, who also seem to be attracted to Feminism which possesses an ingrained victim mentality. Feminism is effectively scaring men away from women, for fear of being wrongly accused of rape, and brainwashing innocent females into believing men are predators.

University no longer seems to be a place of learning. It's a breeding ground for Liberal ideals, Feminist hypocrisy, and arguments with no civil discussion. MGTOW and MRA's are just a few groups, in my opinion, that are products of the fanatical and tyrannical group that is now modern, Third-wave Feminism. To conclude, Feminism isn't bringing women and men together, it's tearing them apart.

I think many conservative women would agree with these views on feminism. I know one Catholic lady who refuses to send her kids to public school, because she doesn't want the liberal environment that a public school offers. And for high school and college, both kids went to Catholic-affiliated institutions.

This reminds me of another take in which a guy was trying to praise Obama, but the ignorance was strong with that one.

Pretty much everything the man has touched has turned to crap. But that aside, it becomes hard to tell anymore whether he's causing a bit of damage to the country, or his most fanatical fanbase is more directly to blame.

I remember that right up until he got elected, students on campuses felt free to disagree on certain things, and could remain civil about their disagreements. They could even freely discuss their reasons, and analyze the merits of each reason.

Flash-forward by EXACTLY ONE DAY... and the campus I was at was instantly transformed by its most far-left element into a fascist gulag of sorts. The political "messiah" had been chosen, and there was zero tolerance for "heretics" who didn't march in lock-step.

If you questioned carte-blanche immigration policies, you were "racist." If you pointed out that not everyone who enters the country does so with good intentions, and they should at least do criminal background checks at minimum, that "confirmed" it.

If you believed creepshaming of men who just wanted to find out what a woman was really about was wrong, you were "pro-rape."

If you understood the historical origin of the word "thug," and refused to believe it was a black-exclusive thing, then you were "committing a racist microaggression."

If you pointed out that abortion on demand endangers Social Security, you were a "chauvinist."

If you pointed out that historically, missionaries did a lot more good than harm, and that most that had adverse effects didn't intend it to happen that way, or that nations rejecting them cause most of those problems rather than the missionaries themselves, you were "a f*kin' retard" apparently unworthy of respect.

If you pointed to the writings of various American founders to show how Christian they really were, you were "forcing religion."

The Indians were just as ruthless toward each other and whites as white settlers toward them? "Racism!"

They could have every detail of reality wrong, but their wrong position was a sacred cow that could not be challenged. Facebook blocking, public shaming, etc. Everything just shy of "burn the heretic" mobs with torches and pitchforks.

I had an English and psych professor who were pretty hardcore feminist. It was English 1301, but most of our writing topics were about various women's semi-/issues. But, she was fairly accepting of other points of view. I was like 19 at the time, so yeah, more impressionable. But, she didn't shove it down your throat. She really influenced me towards feminism, I guess because I was pretty impressionable at that age. You're going to college, so critical thinking--for some, I guess--goes out the window. For me, I formed my own authority bias. "They're professors, they know what they're talking about." If I wouldn't have discovered Karen Straughan on youtube a couple of years ago, I'd still be a feminist probably. I had close friends who were hardcore feminists, too. Close friends with IQs over 150, again with my authority bias. "They're ridiculously smart, they can't be wrong."

They say it's 1 in 4, but that's based on an ultimately inconclusive, massive study by AAU, across multiple campuses across the country, where the researchers warned that there could have been a bias in who chose to answer the survey. After all, one is more likely to answer a rape survey if they've been raped. Out of 850,000 some odd potential students, 150,000 answered the survey. 19% answered, and the result was about 23% saying they had been sexually assaulted. Add in that rape frenzy is all the rage, and some women might feel the need to say they were sexually assaulted as a sense of solidarity. But, that's impossible to gauge. Started out with the feminist manifesto in the 70s, the concept of 1 in 4/5. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the real figure is 1 in 55. Too much. But a long way from 1 in 4.

Not to mention the ironic part, where men are twice as likely to be victims of a violent crime on campus. To say nothing of the overall murder rate in our society, where men are like 80% of those murdered.

There was a bill proposed in California (a boy actually got expelled from college for having sex with one chick: had text evidence that she consented, and still got expelled) that if a female had any amount of alcohol, and she had sex, the man had committed rape. I don't think it passed, but..

Incidentally, PC culture is also forming a (segregationist) wall between whites and minorities for the same reason. PC culture addresses the right issues. It just does so horribly.

I actually gone through the entire study-paper of 1:4 and I can't tell you how much shit was wrong with it. It was beyond ridiculous.

The main takeaways were:
- The "researchers" were defining if something was rape or not even if in the questionaire the "victim" said they didn't think it was
- Participants got an Amazon-Giftcard (Do I really need to say how that can falsify the statistic?)
- The demographic of the two universities they used made the assumptation clear that it was an area of a more minority-heavy demographic which are usually more crime-ridden.
- They figured there are "serial-victims" most likely to engaging in risky behaviour. Especially women who had previous experience of abuse were drastically more likely (I think it was 6-8 times) to end up again in a situation like that
- Promiscuity and alcohol increased the likelihood. What a bummer.
- The majority of rapes were without serious physical violence (probably just taking advantage of drunk chicks)
- More than half of those said rapes thought the incident wasn't serious enough to report.
- Even attempted sexual violence was counted and they counted attempted kissing already as part of it. So if a guy was clumsily attempting to kiss you it was seen already as sexual violence. This is pretty much how they got to the high number.
- While all ethnicities were about the same likelihood of being a victim, non-whites - especially blacks - were way more likely to be victims of forced sexual violence while whites were most likely to be victims of intoxicated sexual assault. Aka blacks were raped more while whites had more "I was drunk and regret it" cases. Considering how most crimes are perpetrated among their own ethnicity make out of it what you want.
- There was literally no middle way in the answers. It was all yes/no answers so the participants had no chance to mention the severity of the case.
- As a little sidenote at the end of the study they also mentioned around 1000 men participating in the study of whom around 5% said they were sexually assaulted while drunk. They didn't go into detail about that one though.

Also somewhere after admitting that certain behaviours drastically increase the chance of those incidents later they wrote that its never the victims fault nor responsibility. Toppest of keks.

This bias in university is the reason my girlfriend decided not to go into social care any longer. They really tried hard to push feminist propaganda and to encourage the women in her class to treat young boys like girls (I'm not exaggerating, that's literally what they did) and because she destroyed many of their arguments they marked her down a lot and tried to get the class to turn against her and any other girl who had the wrong opinion or asked the wrong questions.

Feminism has never been about women's rights, it's about more government control. The way they seem to attack or degrade stay at home Mothers and Motherhood, as well as marriage, should make it obvious that the real agenda is to drive a wedge between men and women. Divide and conquer. Persuade women that men are assholes, that marriage and motherhood = slavery, that working full time earning money to buy shit you don't need is more fulfilling than spending time with family and your own children, encourage them to put their children into daycare for strangers to raise them weakening the bond between child and parent making them easier to control, emasculate men because effeminate men are more passive than masculine men, more people in the workforce means they have twice as many taxpayers and with twice as many workers they can keep wages low and get two for the price of one.

This why I'm lucky to have graduated from Uni when I did (2007), back then there were feminists and feminist professors, they presented their beliefs and talked about feminist theory but they respected yours, now it seems like colleges and university have become totalitarian in nature and less liberal in a sense that all opinions were respected.

Politically, I'm center-left and I consider myself a gender egalitarian. I'm not a Marxist/Socialist and I'm not a fan of radical feminism at all, hence I feel that if I were a student today, I would be torn apart by the wacko professors and their brainwashed drones. Right now it's clearly a scary time to be anything but a radical-left SJW on today's campuses, which again is why I'm thanful to have graduated LONG before outrage culture took hold.

If I were you, I would opt out of Gender Studies class (and anything that has nothing to do with your future goals) if you could and just stick with your friends until it's time to graduate.

I agree. I feel like ever since I went to university, the only things we learn are about feminism and lgbt groups. On one hand, I like that we're getting educated about these groups, but at the same time, I also feel like university is kind of forcing us to think a certain way if they're only offering to teach about these groups and nothing else. I also think some feminists are a bit too extreme and rather than bringing people together, they're seperating people, not only males and females, but different females based on their nationality as well. This girl on facebook once posted that white feminists are harming feminism because of their white privilages. For one, a lot of them feel like they can't express their feelings because it would be seen as weak for a male. And because of this, a lot of males refuse to become feminists. And if both parties aren't in that group, then feminism fails because it's only one group complaining about another. If people want equality, not only do they have to think about everyone, but they also have to know how to make people want equality. I have to disagree on you with this one. You say you grew up in a Republican and Christian household. I'm assuming you're white and have an affluent background (correct me if i'm wrong). Things are a lot easier for you if your background is like this, so maybe the wage gap doesn't effect you as much, but that doesn't mean that it's the same for every woman. Also, the argument that women make ¢77 on the dollar has to do with women taking on the same career path or tasks as men. You said it yourself, we get jobs that tend to pay less money. But, why? I completely disagree with the fundamental ideas presented in this. Firstly, most people have an extremely distorted idea of what feminism is. Feminism is believing that women should have EQUAL opportunities as men - not that they should be superior to men. Of course, like any other belief, there are people who take it to the extreme but that is in no way the majority.

The wage gap is a very real problem women are faced with. If you don't believe it, just look at any female politician currently running. They rightfully use facts about the TRUE wage gap and bring attention to it. If it was nonexistent, they would be torn apart by the media. And of course women have to take maternity leave - they just gave birth! Men should have the equal right to take paternity leave if they so wish, but that shouldn't interfere with women having to take maternity leave.

I'd also like to know where you got your information about the majority of rape victims being lesbian? The unfortunate truth is that women do get raped more than men. There is no argument there. Rape is rape and it is terrible any way but I don't think its right to assume women are overreacting. And just because more women are being raped in developing third-world countries, women here aren't allowed to advocate for their safety? Global feminism calls for equality ALL OVER THE WORLD. Every minority group has an ability and right to speak out against injustice, so if other groups are treated worse, they are fully capable of speaking out, but it shouldn't be one or the other - it should be one AND the other.

Not true. Look at the rape statistics in prison alone. Men get raped more than women women on average in the US. If you bring up statistics about prison rape, it is a completely different story. 93% of the people in prison are male, so of course there are going to be more men raped that the 7% of women who are incarcerated. Also, most prisons are separated by gender, so if more men are being raped, they are being raped by MEN, not by WOMEN. I understand that there are some feminists who take it to the extreme, but that shouldn't be assumed to be the view of all feminists. That is like saying all people of the Muslim faith agree with ISIS. It's just untrue. And many feminists ARE fighting for men and women's issues. The fact of the matter is, women have been historically oppressed in ways men haven't, so calling for equality is seen as threatening to some people. Rape in prison is different than rape in real life. If that many men are being raped in prison, they're being raped by men. So, those stats don't at all support why we shouldn't have feminism. But even the rape debate falls flat seeing as more women in India are raped than American women, and it's black women and native American women who are raped muc more than girls on college campus. I don't see feminists shouting for those ethnic women.

And ultimately women have had more advancement than ethnic groups. More women have been in the U. S. government than blacks or any other race. Women have been allowed to vote in peace since the 50s. Women even got rights before Apartheid ended in South Africa, and before the wall came down in Germany. Women have also ascended to presidency in other nations while the ethnic groups still struggle to have a voice like the Tibetans and native Americans.

@mistixs And yet another Indian woman I used to talk to extensively about her country on Experience Project told me just the opposite, that Indian women face more rape than American women and that women here need to think about that. And even without her words you can look it up for yourself and find out very easily that Indian women are raped far more than American women. Higher population for one thing. Some Indians try to give a false image of their nation because they're ashamed of the truth, and others aren't scared to admit it.

Of course you could say that's probably because women are less afraid to report rapes in the US, and that's a very valid possible contributor.
However, my point is that it's inaccurate that you can "very easily find" that women are raped more in India than in the US. That's simply not what the research shows. I can't find one source that has evidence for that.

Hah, your points are actually surprisingly valid (although in Hungary there IS an actual wage gap). Online feminist ideologies tend to stand against gender roles and the "gender binary" (which means forcing people to be either masculine or feminine, acting "like a man" or "ladylike", etc)... but the REAL "feminist movements" tend to support the victimization of women and the demonization of men.

You WON'T fix the problem of gender stereotypes if you just create more gender segregation! "Safe places" and "women only areas" only perpetuate sexism, which feminism is ought to fix in the FIRST PLACE in order to fix the problems between how males and females look at each other!

The difference is that while feminists place the responsibility on men to control their urges, conservatives place the responsibility on women not to "tempt" men to "lust" because "men can't help themselves," etc. Which is why women have to dress "modestly".

What a crock of bullshit. Just because your mom says all of that doesn't mean Conservatives tend to think that way. I have many Conservative friends and NONE of them think like that. But my Liberal friends tend to think that men are incapable of controlling themselves and that men are "less than human", especially Liberal women. Go to your typical college campus and you'll see this attitude, especially around Feminists, who are the most bigoted and sexist people on a college campus.

And Feminists tend to hold mostly negative views of men. Just look at Second Wave Feminists like Andrea Dworkin, and Third Wave Feminists like Anita Sarkeesian, Rebecca Watson, Brianna Wu, etc., all of them considered leaders in your movement. They're all Liberal, and do not think highly of men. I've noticed it's Conservatives who think positively of men, and Liberals, not so much.

Wage gap is very real. I worked as HR for a year in college. men for the same job get paid more. Women don't negotiate salary as harshly as men, and are more likely to take pregnancy/maternity leave. Therefore, men gain more experience, don't end their careers early, and negotiate higher salaries. I make quite a bit more than the average person in my position, you just gotta go for it.

I think it's good that feminism makes everyone be aware of potential issues a lot more. Like with the wage gap idea. Even if it's not true, at least people are talking about it. That stops anything like that from happening in the future. And I think it helps men too because then everyone is talking about how corporations could be taking advantage of people.

If people are being torn apart, I think they only have to blame themselves for that. I'm not even a feminist, but I know all the things feminism says and I still like the opposite sex and I'm not worried about anything. I'm sure that's how most people feel.

Because the problem is that we now have an epidemic of people divorcing for selfish reasons. There was a study done some years ago in American, can't remember who by, where they asked hundreds of divorced women why they divorced their husbands. The results were quite shocking. The majority of these women admitted that they divorced their husbands not because their husband was abusive or committed adultery, but things like "I didn't need him anymore" or "I knew I would beat him in court" or "I found someone else more exciting." I know of many cases where women have divorced good men for selfish reasons. Abuse against women does happen, but we now have an epidemic of women divorcing GOOD men. There's even a youtube video where a woman admits that the reason she divorced her husband was because he "was too nice." That's right. Many women will divorce their husbands even when the husband is a good man. The divorce laws are designed to benefit women and screw men over, and women know this.

But that's what I meant by the 2nd part that I wrote. Let's say someone does divorce for selfish reasons and it's not their partner's fault at all. How would have staying married changed the fact that one partner is really self-centered?

Like for an examples. Let's say that instead of divorcing, an irresponsible partner stays and: Decides to cheat anyway. Or they get credit cards/loans their partner doesn't know about and spends thousands of dollars. Now the whole family is in massive debt, and has to pay it off or file bankruptcy. Or they could have a drug addiction and waste all of their family's money on that...

If someone's really irresponsible and doesn't care about consequences, then won't they be that way no matter what?

What I'm asking is how would marriage fix that?

Because many years ago the divorce laws were different. If the man was at fault, the courts would take the woman's side. If the woman was at fault, the courts would take the man's side. Therefore, married couples would think twice about messing around. But in those days I think people were less selfish anyway and society wasn't as sexualized as what it is today. Most couples made an effort to make the marriage work because it didn't really benefit anyone to mess it up. But things have changed. Women know that in most cases the courts will take their side, even if they were the ones at fault. That's how the government destroyed the family unit. Take authority and rights away from fathers and husbands and change the divorce laws to benefit women. So of course most divorces will be instigated by women.

People just stayed because of consequences, so in a way isn't that selfish too? Which is probably why today, it's mostly women who divorce; the men probably heard from their friends how complicated their lives would get after divorce, and how there's a big chance they'll lose.

I guess my point is just because it was traditional, doesn't mean that people acted any better than they do now. If you look up what happened in the past and how it really was years ago... there were so many depraved things it's unreal. Like if society was so fair why were the bad things even tolerated? Like even child labor for example...

If husbands were cheating on their wives, then wives must have been cheating on their husbands, because in those days men and women married at a very young age. If someone acted badly in a marriage then the laws would punish them, men or women. The difference today is that women can act badly and the law will usually still take their side. That's why most divorces are instigated by women.

Also you know what, I'm starting to agree with your view more and more on feminism, "social justice" in general actually despite having claimed to support it for a while. The approach is increasingly polarizing and becoming a very hostile "us vs them" attitude.

I agree that there ARE real issues, although I don't know if they're exclusive to women, but things like dudes catcalling and slut shaming piss me off. But I don't think what these people are doing is effective at helping with that at all. Also, there are bigger issues. Everyone has their own problems and their own advantages and disadvantages in their life. I've realized that most feminists probably don't even realize that there are already several things that are easier for women than for men.
