My Rant About the Disgusting Behavior of England Fans at the Euros

So first of all I love football and enjoy the Euros/ World Cup a lot, and I'm from England. Not ethnically English but born in England.

But I am fucking disgusted by the behaviour of England fans and the reputation they are giving this country. Those fucking benefit-claiming brainless shitheads are starting fights to prove how "hard" they are which was embarrassing and the team got a warning telling them they would be removed from the competition if the fans continued with aggressive behaviour. Causing trouble and disturbing cities and fighting in the stadiums is bad enough...

... But then I saw this....

This is a new low. The lowest of the low. Teasing poor refugee children on the streets making them drink alcohol just for a few euros.

I am am ashamed to be from this country. England's Euros has ended. This has gone too far. Disgusting behaviour

I don't think the majority are benefit claimers, let's not get all class judgmental on the issue... England fans have always had a bed rep, it is improving but of course the press LOVES to print about how awful they've been... and they have, but it is sensationalised.

I just don't get it myself, it's a fucking game. I find it pathetic that these people think they're some kind of warrior who fights for their team... To be honest we just shouldn't let them back in, ship them off to Syria so they can't vote in the referendum...

I'm not naive about the truth of what I simply refer to as "common" British people. I know that's condescending to use that word in that context but I really do not care.. they appear to be there to be condescended, and appear to invite it.. without knowing it because seriously these people have such a lack of self awareness, self understanding and self knowledge. They just react I just cannot believe how stupid so many of the masses in UK are. They are so reactive, culturally deprived, and not at all independent thinkers. What we are seeing here (and this is the first I've seen of it as I boycotted association football years ago, despite having been a big fan before that time. I had enough of how ridiculous it is) is people conforming to mob mentality.

A mob can be very empowering for each of the individuals within it, who as it happens are not individuals when part of a mob on account of they are part of a vicious machine called a mob. The vast majority lose their individuality in a mob, and those that don't make the choice to not be a part of the mob. But yeah, very empowering, people can feel invincible when they are in a huge crowd telling people they will kill them, kicking things, looting, setting fires however much it escalates.

Although I agree this is disgusting, you also are not sharing the entire story (much like mainstream media).

Football hooligans is a profession held by some (I believe mostly Russians but to be honest, it's probably all nationalities). They train all year, keep to the top of their physical fitness, they don't drink and they keep a strict diet. When it comes to a big game like this, they cause fights and make people attack each other in their alcohol fuelled states. I'm not saying this is a result of hooligans, but there is a lot that isn't covered. "Football fan pees in street" for instance isn't covered but very likely to be true. Every country has their people who put their country to shame, it's not like if you were from Africa all of your worries would be over.

To be honest though love, I think if this is what you're really upset about in the entire of football history, you either need to pick up a book or get tougher skin. Ever heard of the Hillsborough disaster?

Yes, I'm aware you're not talking about the Russians. My point was that there are people at games to spark a reaction. Even out of the England fans. There is a reason everyone keeps bringing the Russians up on this MyTake.

I never said the English fans were guilt free. Unfortunately though this isn't the first time this has happened, by English fans or other nationalities. This is fairly regular behaviour for football matches.

Got to bare in mind here, We're not the only ones doing this kind of thing. Just look at Russia. It's like a revival of the firms from the 70s and 80s. They put an Englishman in an induced coma after attacking him with a metal pipe. They supposedly provoked the England fans into starting the fight (not saying that makes England blameless) and possibly worst of all, an official from the Russian Football Union tweeted something along the lines of "keep up the good work"

I live here in Canada and know that they have many sports fans over there and soccer is a very big sport there.. but I do not get how some of the fans react over a game.. I hear about stuff like that going on over there a lot.. and it makes me ask myself.. why do they keep these games going when at almost everyone one of them the fans and I use that term very loosely.. can behave the way they behave.. It is just a game after all.. and I do not know what could be done to stop this from happening.

Besides putting a stop to these games.. but then it would deprive the real fans to lose something that is in my view very special to them over there.. as it is only a small percentage of people that act like idiot's.. but yet it seems to create more unruly fans at every event.. always... one solution to me would be to ban these people that are weeded out as the trouble makers, then ban them for life of seeing another game.

If it were up to me, football would be banned. Numerous people have been killed over football, and many injured. It shows the level of stupidity in our society and how brain dead humanity has become. People shouting and cheering over a bunch of overpaid men kicking a ball around a field. I despise football. I'm from England and every time England play I always cheer for the other team. Not this time, it's the Russians. In Lens yesterday England and Wales fans behaved impeccably - no fighting, both national anthems observed impeccably and during the game when the Welsh fans sang the English applauded (it is rousing, even if you live the other side of Offa's dyke). The idea that the English are the cause of all the trouble in football was never accurate anyway but our problems are nothing like they were. A fairly small number of idiots have gone to France because it is close and easy to get to. The majority of fans are just people, some are good, some less so but the trouble was started by the Russians which is why they have been given a suspended disqualification. Not all the English involved in the scenes in Marseille wanted to be there (although doubtlessly the idiots did) but got caught up in a situation out of their control. Its too easy for people to just apply a label and ignore the facts of the situation. Let's hope that there is no more trouble.

I haven't forgotten a documentary I saw where England fans in a pub in Spain watching a game getting drunk behaving in a loutish manner. Then a Spanish guy walks in waving his own flag in his own country and they attack him.

Well I didn't say that, did I. What I said was that the big trouble this time was started by the Russians. Watch the news, understand what is happening and only then open your mouth. There is bad behaviour by some England fans - the getting a child to drink a pint of beer was particularly sickening - but you are wrong to assert that "It is the England fans that cause all the trouble". In the past that was often the case (1980s with clubs and England and continuing into the 1990s with England) but even then not always. I think the French police are underprepared due to stretched resources and have not realised the potential for trouble, particularly from the Russians who seem to be a new breed of hooligan. For heaven's sake an MP in Russia went on Tv congratulating their thugs on their behaviour and whilst Russians were attacking the English fans in the stadium at the end of the match a Russian government minister celebrated in the stands. How many more facts do you need?
