Because some think certain things may be or are a threat to their way of liveing and they may or may not be right. It may be directly related to atheism ie religion invading schools
or other personal beliefs not related to atheism like abortion laws
Eh, from my experience it's sometimes a two way thing. when someone says they're Atheists, Christians get all up in their face. It just depends on the person really.
But great Mytake nonetheless tho, I agree but I also dont care who people pray to as long as they're happy and they're happiness doesn't cause injustice or unhappiness to others. let's just say African Americans have known Jesus Christ since the first ship sailed to steal us from Africa.
and disregard the first part, I didn't read all of the Mytake after the topic until after i wrote it, but the second and third part of my opinion still applies
Iam atheist.. I am okay with people believing whatever they want. The thing that grinds my gears and gets me going is people talking about god and how god is good. but then with the way the world has become and how god could allow all this violence and stuff in their personal life can happen. If you believe in god, keep it to yourself and in private. Don't bring up religion around a non believer because you won't like the after math. Keep your beliefs to yourself and so will I.
i really want to see you taking a 6'4 200 pounds "believer" and then we can all see the aftermath of that.
Do you know what seperates people who believe in god from non believers? its teh fact taht even if they are not religious and dont go to church every week they acknoweldge the fact that there is something bigger, than humans are not the ultimate beings in the entire world and that alone is a good enough reason to be nice to each other.
athiests though... they wanna break the rules so they pretend no such rules exists, they think they're the ultimate beings in the entire universe and anything can be done with the power of their mind , cool no one said its bad to be a scientest but acting like you are the one and only is not exactly known to help humans or bring them together.
Am i wrong? please tell me if iam wrong, if someone doesn't believe in god or follow any rules or really have any reason to follow any rules then by default that person is free to do anything they want , its not rocket sceinece, religious people are not perfect and some are assholes and some religions are destructive, but iam talking about christianity here, the new testament, if you follow everything written in it word by word (which is not easy ) you will realise just how peaceful the world will be.

If people of faith would be content to simply practice their religion and keep it in family, church, religious school, and home, they wouldn't be following their religions. Only Jews don't try to convert others.
Here is some news for you, if there is nothing else then nothing matters. If you have a bad life, good life, kids, family etc., it doesn't matter if there is no Gid. You just blink out and so does our species eventually. What an incredible waste of time even writting this for a non-believer. Time is fleeting, life is short and that is all you have. Whi gives a crap about anything else as it is a waste of precious time and changes nothing in the end.

A few thoughts. (Btw I am an atheist just so you know)
-you assume that atheism is the default position society which you use to justify the imposition of secularism. You have to need to justify this and the correct answer varies from nation to nation. In the case of america I think its harder to argue. -you are against legislation based on religious views. Im a democracy though how can you escape this?
@Toad-1 things like anti abortion laws and not legalising gay marriage go against the 1st amendment? People have their own justification for voting habits and there's no reason why for them to be based on religious beliefs. It follows that legislation would therefore represent the general values of the nation, be they religious or not.
I do heavily agree with this too. The umbrella problem is a lack of critical thinking in general on a nation wide scale. I'd like to write about this, but seeing as critical thinking wasn't taught at all where I grew up, I've been little by little learning on my own. I simply feel that there are others currently a lot more qualified to write on that subject. A simple required course on logical fallacies would do america a lot of good.
Luckily our teachers at school understood the importance of it, and repeated it over and over to us.
That gaves you an unlimited advantage. Simply because you recognise that what is popular belief was invented by someone who could get it as wrong as you can.
In fact if the top 10% of people get better results it can only be because of their belief system, because appart of that all humans have two hands and two feet. So the difference is between the ears.

I didn't care until you capitalized atheism. Maybe it's because I'm in an advanced English class right now, with a Nazi for a professor, but make sure to use lower case next time.
Oops, where did I do that? I thought I only did it in the title, and when it was the first word in a sentence. Admittedly though, I was tired when I wrote this and didn't really care.
Exactly, it's not even enjoyable. I'd much rather be eatin cheeseburgers and chips and discussing who'll be playing in the College Football Playoff. BUT, since christians vote with their religion and want to teach their creation myths in schools and build religious monuments on public lands and pass laws to opress those who aren't aligned with their beliefs I'm forced to give a shit about their religion... -_-
I believe in God and I don't need some random person screaming at me "GOD IS FAAAAKE" to make up my mind. I have my beliefs and you have yours. Let's just leave it at that.
@zoooot wth you're saying this because I believe in god? With you jumping on me and attacking me you are just proving his point to be true! Accept my opinion and I'll accept yours. You're the reason why people despise atheists.
@SinghSong secular humanism is not a religious belief system. @Opinion owner atheism is not a belief it is specifically a rejection of you belief. @zoooot no need to be an ass
They don't even have to keep it to themselves. Just within their community. I don't even care if they want to talk to me about their religion. They just need to keep it out of decisions and places and parts of government that effect other people.

I personally think the world would be a much better place is the Natural Law was "You do You, I Do Me and Everybody Mind their Own Damn Business"
But great Mytake nonetheless tho, I agree but I also dont care who people pray to as long as they're happy and they're happiness doesn't cause injustice or unhappiness to others. let's just say African Americans have known Jesus Christ since the first ship sailed to steal us from Africa.

can you objectively define "good" without it just being your opinion?

@IceCubedude if you say so

They already don't follow their religion lol.
@Overthrow You should discuss that with your rebbe, :). If he's an ultra orthodox Haredi or Chassidic he might say you're right. IF.

"you are against legislation based on religious views. Im a democracy though how can you escape this?"
Because it violates the 1st amendment and flies in the face of the values this nation was founded on.

It isn't really about religion, more than people blindly believing things and acting according to them.
The same mentality that put Jesus on a cross.

I agree. Some people come on way too heavy with the Jesus nonsense and hating on gay people isn't right.
Not about God. They have their own Opinion.
Good luck and Beautifully Done, hun. xx
Becuase it some cult mind shit and u people dont think for yourself.
And u justify. The thing u do undergod and the devil.
The. Try to say god changed ur life. It very kid belives in santa.
I agree with you. As an atheist, I wouldn't even bring up the fact I was if someone didn't shove religion in my face.
Exactly, it's not even enjoyable. I'd much rather be eatin cheeseburgers and chips and discussing who'll be playing in the College Football Playoff. the fact you (have to) call it "beliefs" says everything
@zoooot ^ found the atheist.
please dont procreate :)
@zoooot wth you're saying this because I believe in god?
With you jumping on me and attacking me you are just proving his point to be true! Accept my opinion and I'll accept yours. You're the reason why people despise atheists.
do you realise that your belief's "holy book" states that women should keep quiet and obey, or be stoned in the streets?
@zoooot how about you get off my opinion
@zoooot Do you know that humanism is itself a religious belief system?
@SinghSong i dont think so but what i described is not humanism either way
@SinghSong secular humanism is not a religious belief system.
@Opinion owner atheism is not a belief it is specifically a rejection of you belief.
@zoooot no need to be an ass
How is me saying "under God" violating your rights? Also is it not violating our rights for you to force us to do something against our religion?
We dont have separation of church and state here but we are quote secular. And the religious people here arenot as extreme as in the US.
Why can't religious people keep their beliefs to themselves?
They don't even have to keep it to themselves. Just within their community. I don't even care if they want to talk to me about their religion. They just need to keep it out of decisions and places and parts of government that effect other people.
Honestly if there were 2 or 3 of these nutcases believing in God I'd help, but when everyone does it I just think "WTF" and keep to myself.
That's perfectly okay. :-)
I'm an Agnostic Jew. A little bit of religion, but not so religious, that I become extreme. Extremism, as we know, (ISIS), is bad
Very well thought out argument.
We care because we're human beings.
