Indian culture: Do's and Dont's

Anonymous

I don't know how many Indian people use gag or will read this but this is a message to Indian people on how to appreciate our rich culture and not degrade it.

#1 Architecture and structures

Do: Appreciate it. We have beautiful architectural monuments and sculptures that are thousands of years old. Temples, buildings, you name it. It's all beautiful and still standing for us to appreciate. People from all over the world come to see these wonders and it is indeed something to be proud of.

Don't: Take it for granted. Don't spit on the beautiful structures or degrade them by carving your name into it. People have put days and years of effort into making them and it has historical value. It's not something to spit upon. The number of times I have seen beautiful things being covered in red, disgusting spit all over is a lot to count and it's necessary for someone to bring awareness to it.

#2 Clothes

Do: Understand that we have a variety of clothing styles to choose from. Gujarati, Marathi, Rajasthani, etc. Different kinds of beautiful fabrics to choose between and wear and it's great.

Don't : Slut shame girls (sometimes guys..but it happens very rarely) who wear Western clothes. It's stupid. Just because someone is wearing jeans or shorts doesn't automatically make them immoral. Learn to respect personal choice of people and that everyone is different.

#3 Religion

Do: Get along with everyone despite their religious beliefs. We have Hindus, Muslims, Christians, etc religions and still live together in harmony (supposedly).

Don't: Fight on basis of religion like I see very often. Don't say atheists are immoral and try to convert them. Just chill out. Just cause people fought over religion a few hundred years back doesn't mean you should defend those ancestors of yours.

#4 Sexuality

Do: Accept others despite their sexual orientation or sexual history .Personally I lack any sexual experience just like a lot of the girls in this country and that's cause it's a personal choice. A lot of girls and guys choose to be abstinent till marriage or forever and that's fine.

Don't: Put pressure on girls to be virgins till they are married or slut shame them if they are not. It's a personal choice. Even gay and lesbians are often called "weird" or other names. Please don't do that. It's dumb and mean and it makes you sound like you are twelve. Also after married don't force girls to change their identity for the sake of your ego. We are humans not puppets. Don't tell women that rape is their fault, it's not. Also ladies, don't take advantage of being a woman to accuse guys of bad things and get him in trouble. All these things get on my nerves.

This article is not mean to offend. It's just what I feel our culture should be like, accepting and full of open minded people.
