What do you know about Indian culture?

Hi... I am an Indian, a native of western part and residing in eastern part.
Thank you for showing this interest in learning about our culture. We are one of the oldest civilisation and a rare mix of various cultures, festivals, languages, religions, traditions. I would bet that you won't just understand the entire culture by reading books and getting reviews. It is an experience to live.
That said, I will give you a little heads up. We are a big country with a large population. So if you compare with the Western world, you'd find it to be congested and overcrowded.
There are hundreds of local languages spoken in our country. In fact you can say every 50- 100 km, the language ( even if broadly the same) has minute changes in the way people speak.
The traditions, religious practices, festivals etc also changes with language, sects etc
In fact, I have recently came across a traveler I you tube namely Dale Philip who send to have had a good long stay in India and has uploaded many videos on youtube. Would recommend you to watch them to see India live, different aspects etc
They're one of the oldest culture second to China in world population, one thing you notice immediately is the difference between those who have and have not, the people are very friendly but with visiting any foreign countries be aware of who your involved with and where you are, your into spicy food your going to be satisfied you are aware that they're not much meat eaters do to their beliefs in reincarnation, most people are Hindus but your going most religions are tolerated, it's a exceptional place to go there so much to explore do see and if you think people in your city drive like maniacs, you have not seen anything like the traffic and how they maneuver just something to see in person, do it's been a while for me but even you have been around for thousand of years only major changes you can expect is population growth and modernization, good luck
@manon1998 - Which culture? There's dozens in India. Someone from the Punjab region is not, by any stretch of the imagination, the same as someone from Kerala.
India is a vast diverse country. Each region has, in ways, it's own culture, traditions, takes on food, etc. In almost every region there's subcultures of the main culture. That's not including the family associations, cast associations, etc. Or religious association.
.
I've been to India, invited by colleagues, at least five times.
I’m not Indian and I don’t know much about the culture but my roommate is from India and she’s teaching me a lot. Starting with Indian cuisine. She took me to an Indian supermarket here in Canada where we live and told me what I should try. She’s lived with me long enough to gauge what I like and don’t like so she could tell me what Indian foods I would likely like.

Indian Culture is So Vast to tell there are varities of subcultures and different rituals.
As everyone knows it has 2nd highest population so there are variety of things and variety of people.
There are many religions and with that comes different celebrations of festivals.
There are numerous languages and different akcents for each language.
There are mang pros and cons people might talk shit may be heard from someone else or experienced something bad.
But you can say shit about any country no country is crime free.
But even so when it comes to inner peace and mind engineering people still look at India.
You have to a little more specific in terms of what you are looking for 🙂.
Not much other than it is very old and very complex. It is my understanding that there is not one Indian culture but many Indian cultures. I know that the people we Europeans know as Gypsies are originally from India and some people think my Celtic Druid ancestors were from India. I know there is a caste system that governs social interactions but that it is followed less strictly now than in years past. I know that some Indians are forbidden from eating cow and others are strictly forbidden from eating pork and some can't have any meat and some can eat anything they want to.
My knowledge of India is quite limited. I have read a lot about ancient Indian history / mythology. Vedic literature, and post Vedic such as epic poems e. g. Mahābhārata. Often also in a comparative perspective with European mythology. The story is quite pitted, in the sense that I read until the clash with the Hellenism of Alexander the great, the subsequent Maurya Empire. Then there is the darkness. Of the various Indo-Greek Kingdoms, Indo-Scythians, Indo-Parthian Kingdoms, Kushan Empire, Indo-Sasanid, White Huns and Gupta Empire, I know they existed, but I have never delved into them. Then another dark period and I pass to the Mughal Empire, the Maratha Empire and the Sikh Empire. Also because the city where I live is de facto the Italian capital of the Sikhs. British co-domination and then domination I know quite well as the history of the national liberation movement.
It depends on the religion/tribe they are in but there is one event called Navratri where by people get to dance with friends and family, i only like this specific event because there's an abundant of good indian food and sweets, ok mostly the sweets, there's one sikh sweet that i love the most, its called barfi made from ghee and milk and coconut and just everything that makes you never wanna stop eating them 🤤🤤🤤
I don't know much about it but there are many many things I would love to know about it and the people because they're so very smart and intelligent in so many different ways with their beliefs that's the positive and this is a positive to I would love to know about the auntie thing too LOL
I took a Modern Asian History class (with a large chunk of it being Indian History). It was fascinating and mind-blowing, given how some of their experiences & lessons have contradicted the experiences in Philippine & U. S. histories.
I've learned some (Christian worship) songs in various Indian languages (Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, etc.) and can still sing a little bit from memory.
Indian food has also been learned (deliciously!).
I think that's a picture of the Taj Mahal. That's all I know, other than I do enjoy onion bhajis.. not the supermarket ones though, the real home made ones.
From where did you eat homemade onion bhajis?
Sorry wrong thread
@Aakash_Hangargi I use to work with a lady who's Husband owns an Indian Restaurant. He makes me a batch every few weeks
Nice
India is beautiful. Indian culture cannot really be defined as it is very diverse and vast. The culture is also practiced differently in certain parts of the world and depending on which part of India you are from.
No sorry hun , I don't have extensive knowledge about the country. I only know Indian cultural practices in the southern hemisphere.
I have really mixed opinions about them. They have really amazing food and sweets!
Are welcoming but at the same time very racist.
Don't know how to treat women with respect and they poo on the streets or railway tracks.
And they have an obsession with cow excreta. That's all I know
I LOVE INDIA!
It’s quite sad though that people there are suffering from Corona and yet some foreigners look down on them.
I like their food and culture! Hinduism is so much interesting to learn, and Bollywood makes me energetic!
I don't think any one Indian can give you a good description without a good research.
It's diverse over 1000 s of languages, including the major languages.
Different cultures, religions, practices...
Huge population, interesting foods.
Anyway, like any other country inhabited by humans, India too have it's own fair share of stupids
I don't know much, but they're kind of scruffy. They worship the cow. And they have rat temples where they give food to these rats and they consider them holy.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/dsyLUMyk4gAI admittedly don’t know much about Indian culture. Unfortunately they’re more widely known in the Midwest USA for IRS and call center phone scams than anything else.
I don't know much about it Indian culture but I will always be thankful and yoga and vegetarianism.
It's changed my life completely for better.
That they like shitting on the streets and forcing women to be sex slaves
I think it is a wonderful country, very articulate and forward thinking. A very peaceful place, with humility and of great culture.
As an Indian it would take me many many days to make you understand what India is... So if you had a chance Visit India and Experience it...🙂
It’s beyond complex. I’d focus on one ethnic group, maybe one in which you know People already. I worked with Jains, so I learned a lot about them.
I am indian, specifically from the south. India is super diverse in its culture based on each state and region.
So I can give you information about stuff down here in the south.
A beautiful and diverse country with rich culture sadly being put through shit by hindu extremists and terrorists along with increasing abnormal interest in cow piss drinking, dung eating and bathing
They all jump into a disgustingly polluted river as part of a traditional ceremony and catch diseases. I'm just saying, that's something I know about their culture.
Well.. I just know they burn their dead ones and throw their ashes to Ganj river. I respect cultures and beliefs but.. its kinda weird and them swimming in Ganj river is more weird.
Indian culture is not uniform and vast. So if you can be more specific, I will be glad to answer.
They shit in the street and love raping women. What more do you need to know?
Not much. Just what we're told about it here in america.. that most tech. jobs are outsourced to them
it stinks of spice and everywhere you listen to stupid music that goes like LALALALALALALALALALALA
I know they do shit on the ground in the streets. I know they drink from the shitty river.
Beautiful Bengal tigers in India but I don’t like their arranged marriage system
I love India and UAE! Both countries are one of my favorite.
White washed culture. Everybody wants to be white or surrounded by whiteness.
If you’re from a poor class and you marry a rich class, you will get in trouble. Boys are valued more than girls. Gangi river is important
You can ask me I will tell u anything u want about india. m
The most I know is the Gurkani or Muhgal Empire was one of the great Empires of the World
The food is tasty and there are people everywhere.
Street poopin is classic India.
