Prom Date 101

Going to Prom can sometimes be stressful and busy. The best thing to do is to keep it simple. The first thing to do, of course, is to find a companion to go and have fun with. If asking somebody out is nerve-wrecking, have a friend help you plan on how to ask someone out. If asking a person out is still difficult, just ask someone to go as good friends, because it does not have to be a "date" to be tons of fun! Normally guys ask girls to prom, but girls are more than welcome to ask guys too. In fact, some guys love how girls can be straightforward at times.

Finding a date is just one step of the process to prepare you and your companion for this memorable night. First and foremost, make sure to be ready for your prom date well ahead of time, don't make your date wait! If you are a guy, you may want to give your date a bouquet of flowers. Girls, you’ll also want to make sure you have a special corsage for your date.

"Remember, prom is not about the date, but you!"
Find a Prom Date
  • Don't think about it, just ask your date
  • Have a friend help you plan out
  • Girls can ask guys on a prom date, too
  • If it's not a "Date", call it "Friends"

Choose a nice outdoor location, like a park or a lake to take pictures of you and your prom date dressed up. After pictures, make sure you have transportation to get to dinner. Some choose to rent a limo with friends and others choose to ask their parents to borrow their special sports car. After your family takes multiple pictures (trust me, they’ll want to spend hours doing this) head to dinner a couple hours before prom starts. Be sure to make reservations days, if not weeks ahead of time. While a fancy 5 star restaurant is not necessary, you’ll want to go to a restaurant that is memorable and of course, delicious. Even if you are taking your prom date as friends I’d suggest that the guy pays for the dinner. After dinner, make sure you aren’t too full to dance and have a great time!

Prom Night Tips with your Date
  • Don't make your date wait
  • Have your pictures taken with your date
  • Don't stuff yourself at the dinner
  • Let loose and have fun at the dance
  • Sing a duet with your prom date

While at prom, don’t be shy to let loose and have fun with your date. If they have karaoke, don’t be afraid to sing a duet with your prom date. If your prom date is your boyfriend or girlfriend, request a special song for him or her. If your prom date is your friend, make sure to dance with your date to show them you are glad to accompany them to prom. Whatever you do at prom, make sure to dance, dance and dance some more! You don't want sitting on a table all night to be your only memory from your prom night.

"Ask someone to go as good friends, because it does not have to be a date to be tons of fun!"

Although finding a prom date might seem like a stressful task, just relax and don’t worry about it. Remember the prom is not about the date, but you. If there are no dates, take your best friend. Just be sure to plan your day well in advance by ordering flowers, making sure you are dressed to the nines and locking in reservations for a nice dinner. Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun with your prom date by letting loose and enjoying what might be the most memorable night of your high school life!
