Believe it or not judging is actually a natural thing we do that was developed in order for us to address a particular situation in a way that would most likely keep us safe.

Judging exists for a reason. The issue is when wrongful assessment of someone leads to hysterical exaggerations of who another might be.

I believe people judge to make themselves feel better Because they have very low self-esteem and self worth.. It comes from a sense of insecurity. A person judging someone else says more about the Judger than the judgee

      That's precisely it.
People shouldn't even care what others think, if they do, you have to believe they have poor self worth and self esteem. If you care so much as to judge someone else than that says something about you more than them...

I'm sure you'd appreciate those sayings "don't trade authenticity for approval" and "it's better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you're not"

I've never been popular. And I don't care to ever be. I just appreciate the few people in my life who seemingly appreciate me... It's just a lot more fruitful. I get to be who I am and no one is going to judge me for it.

Ever heard the term "bad judgement"? That is why. Non-judgemental people are born all the time. But for some reason, judgmental ones keep on surviving and reproducing. So there must be something useful about being judgmental.

If everyone around you is a Nazi, your odds of survival are probably higher if you join in. Unpalatable as it is.

The gay community is aware that some people will never accept them, the reasons why are to do with culture, environment, education, they are actively engaging the media and governments to try and create change. Things don't change over night and sometimes they never do.

    Either:
    *Jealousy
*Lack of exposure to the judged one/side
*Lack of understanding for the judged one/side
    *Biased opinion
    *Being a pure asshole
    *Societal brainwashing
*Being raised by parents to say/thing this certain way- also brainwashing
    *Group peer pressure/bandwagoning
*Defense mechanism of one's own being, culture, type
    *Religious viewpoints and quotes
*Desire to convert another to one's own beliefs & values
    *Cultural segregation

^OR 2 or more of the above combined.

Judgements and assumptions help us gauge the world around us and allows us to navigate social spaces with awareness. It can be a negative thing but mostly when people hold on to judgements even when it’s proved wrong.

What? Do you genuinely believe that.
You use ASSUMPTION and AWARENESS in the same sentence. How aware are you if your basing it off assumptions (ie, things you don't know).

You know that saying, don't make an ASS out of U and ME (assume)

      That's horrible.

How about just don't judge and let people's actions speak for themselves. I mean, we are all in a hurry to get nowhere fast, if we just slowed the fuck down and live true to ourselves and stopped worrying about what others thought and just behaved like decent human beings, we could all gravitate to people who would appreciate us better and experience a whole lot less drama and heartache...

@yodaiam Judging itself is not a *bad* thing. As long as you are “aware” of them and ready to alter them as soon as you are proved wrong, they aren’t harmful.

It is harmful tho... it might keep you from getting to know someone because you think they dress bad or act like a jerk or are standoffish. Based on assumption, it's not that they are these things, it's that you judge them for being these things before you even know they are or not.

It's one thing to observe a person who dresses bad, or acts like a jerk or is standoffish. There is nothing wrong with that, but to JUDGE them for it is absolutely wrong. I mean, knock yourself out if you don't want to hang out with people who dress bad act like jerks or are standoffish, that's no longer a judgement, that's a decision one makes that says "being around this person doesn't make me feel good" but to say there's nothing wrong to make this decision based on judgements is not kosher man. It's wrong. Placing YOUR expectations on others isn't fair. They shouldn't have to be anything other than themselves and all you should care about is who you are...

I suspect that it's a natural reflex for us- a vestige from the time our ancestors had to quickly judge if another person constituted a threat.

I don’t judge because mostly I don’t care. You do what you want and I will do what I want. Just give me my distance and you will not hear from me.

Everybody judges - also known as discerning. We do it, it's how we determine what is good or bad in our own mind.

I get that. I think you like many of similar comments are missing major points though. The author is pointing out POINTLESS judgements, those that are obviously wrong and due more to just a sense of being rude and a mean person, rather than for a good reason. Example:
Your pic shows that you with glasses. And a few wrinkles. From that pic, I could assume you are a dork. A nerd. With no life and no good to come from them. Is that a fair judgement?

@errorgoodnameunfound Well, I was printer, musician and music producer, sound technician, graphics artist, business intelligence consultant, programmer, web designer and had a few other jobs in between. I was travelling for 16 years, learned 3 languages had plenty of relationships and a fulfilled life. Pointless judgements are judgements nevertheless as you can see with yours.
Putting a word in front of a noun doesn't change the noun into something else. Idiots don't get that. A judgement remains a judgment whether it's right or wrong doesn't matter. I do not judge you based on this message, because I do not jump to conclusions before all data is in.

I'll be honest, I am confused. Did you take what I said as seriously or in context like it was meant as? I meant absolutely none of it and I thought that was clear. It was an example.
"Putting a word in front of a noun doesn't change the noun into something else. Idiots don't get that. "... WHAT? Are you kidding me? Of course it can! Adjectives can completely change how we see nouns! There's a difference between "good hair" "bad hair" and "hair" All are hair yes, but adding the words in front completely changes perception! For calling me an idiot (insults are a HUGE clue of who is losing an argument), I think you may want to look into this. The point the author made is that certain TYPES of judgements are completely bad. Not the "mini judgements" that we use to make simple decisions, but long term. I feel the author made this quite clear. Get off your high horse already.

@errorgoodnameunfound POINTLESS judgement means judgment. SPECIAL idiot still means idiot. If you have problems to understand what I'm writing, ignore it. Nobody urges you to read it. Keep your asd hominem arguments to yourself. Nobody needs that here. Go to twitter or somewhere where ignorance is bliss.

i think it comes from fear of unknown. i don't think there is such thing as "judgment-free". i think the important thing is to be open and respectful, not stop judging.

Because order is important and judgment is needed to organize and maintain order. We judge everyday by the way try living life without making any judgments whatsoever.

You do realize I can take that as a threat and you can be arrested right where you are right? Also, I highly doubt a just god would favor a bragging moron like yourself. If there's a hell, that's the sort of rude reckless behavior that can lead to it. Mean time though, don't be surprised if you get a letter from the police soon. Threats are threats and whether you really meant it can be determined when I see ya in court. I'd get off your high horse right now if I were you.
      Uttering Threats

"It is a criminal offence for anyone to threaten to...

kill or cause bodily harm to any person
      damage, destroy or burn property
kill, poison or injure any person's animal or bird
The maximum penalty for threatening death or bodily harm is five years imprisonment. The maximum penalty for uttering threats to damage property or kill or injure animals is two years."

Lady... Get god out of the picture and live life here on Earth. You aren't above anyone. You are a human like me or anyone else here. Period. Your god can suck my dick for all I care. The Satanic rules are better than biblical BS by a longshot. Get over yourself. Does it matter what world you are part of when you get that police letter sending you to court for online threats? You are more than welcome to take your prayers to court and see if they can make a difference mmk. See ya soon. Curious to see what you are like outside of hiding behind a computer screen. I'll know soon enough.

You say that now. You can say it in court too. Have a nice day and see ya then. From what the police report says, the FBI may need to get involved due to part of your other records as well... Have fun with that and again, see you in court.

That is classified. It is not wise to share details of a court case on a public website. There are still things that have to be set up for our court date, when ever that happens to be. This case is between you and me. No reason to share details with anybody else, as I refuse to defame either of us. You are more than welcome to say a full withdrawal of your threat and make it clear, but the charges are already being investigated, so it may or may not help. The investigator will not allow me any shortcuts on contacting you or knowing about you, be it your name, where you are located, etc until much later as the court date approaches. Likely, I don't think charges can be made. But we will see, and if so, I plan to go full with it if necessary. I guess you may learn the hard way to take threats more seriously. Law is law and you should follow it.

No. If anything, your account will likely be banned soon. You hide behind your anonymous account. You can not forever. You use it to be a rude coward pretending to believe in your god as if you are better than anyone else. But I see right through you. You are on here to feel better about yourself because in real life, you don't amount to much. I actually will use what you said to help bring down religion as a whole, as your words are a prime example of how horrid religious people can be. And let's not forget that court date. I wonder if you are in fact 25. I sense a lie.
