No. If anything it celebrates another culture by reminding people of it.
CA is only used by liberals against Caucasians because they hate Caucasians so much. Non-White people that do this get a free pass. Different rules for different people.
Cultural Appropriation is bullshit. I'm a liberal and even I recognize it's a bullshit liberal term.
It's "assimilation".
I dont see anything wrong with this picture, do you?
I don't see what the problem is. I laud her for also appreciating fashion from other cultures. Whenever I visit a country (in my case in Asia), I get some local traditional clothes.
Who decides that what is culturally appropriate anyway? Some bigot most likely. People shouldn't listen to bigots to decide what they can and can't do. Just sayin'.
I am Asian and I don't care that she wore the qi pao but I am offended with her folding hands and making that pose
Do you still find it offensive if their poses were supposedly based off of a meme? Just curious.
This shit is insane. This kind of behaviour is a special kind of crazy, were they advocate for modern day segregation based on culture. Fuck jeremy lam
Is a Chinese girl wearing jeans cultural appropriation of the West?
Of course not.
Most Chinese people don't care. It's just a couple of idiot bad-apple Asians and "woke" white people making the world a less diverse place
I think the hand pose is what makes it appropriation. But I’ve worn Mandarin collar dresses I find they go well with my long neck. And I’ve worn a Kimono tragically. I’m too black to wear Japanese clothing and I probably will look even more ridiculous in a Sari. Wypipo usually feel they can wear any cultures clothing and they can’t. She shouldn’t have worn the dress. But I’ve seen many a white woman wear it and no problems were raised. Whites don’t have a culture so they take from others.
"Tragically"? I've seen black girls in kimono and not-so-tragically they look incredibly beautiful in them. Also as you mentioned you wear Mandarin collar dresses because you say they go well with your long neck. Seems you like Asian cultural clothing already. Give yourself some credit, take it and make it your culture, which doesn't automatically belong to someone based upon their skin color or region they were born into. Black people are just as free to wear any culture's clothing
It's fine. No one really cares. Everybody just has to try to make a big deal out of the most inane things. If that's what she wants to wear, so what? pfft
Its only "appropriation" when white people do it. Get the fuck over it. We don't get mad when black girls wear white girl wigs or bleach their skin. We don't get mad when black men wear business suits. We dont get mad when oriental women tuck their eyelids into an occipital fold. Or when any person of any culture does so-called "white" things. Nobody bitches about Darius Rucker singing country music or Howard Jones singing metalcore.
You racist fucktards need to get over yourselves
Oh shit, I am so loving this honesty right now. Shit, this is getting too exciting!!! ;)
Every culture that has come to America brought their culture with them, which means it's part of American culture, so not a damn thing wrong with the dress she wore.
that's like the time when the little black boy wore the ape shirt on the h&m website. People see racism where it doesn't even make sense! such people make fun of their own race without realising it. You make yourself the victim not others
I'm sure white people pointed the shirt out too, you're not that naive. When white people and other make racial jokes about it, it then becomes racist
@nojokecarmichael I was talking to my white friends about that and no one knew why they made a huge fuss of it. I am not even white and didn't get it, all I saw was a little boy that wore a shirt nothing else. I have many black friends and they talk about that h&m is racist while saying the N-word to eachother like it was their name. Some people are just ridiculous
It doesn't matter if they say the n word to each other, white people say it do you have a problem with white people and other non blacks saying it also? What does that have to do with people being racist?
If any Asians complain about it, those girls can just tell them to stop wearing jeans as it’s “cultural appropriation”. I think cultural appropriation has gotten blown way out of proportion over the past few years
Why are there always some people making a big deal or taking offense in anything and everything somebody else does? Can't we all just mind our own business and be happy for others who clearly just wanna have fun and look good doing so?
If you're making duck faces, and trying to sexualize yourself in it, then it's cultural appropriation. The hands together one is mad disrespectful. its just people being stupid. yes, i am chinese.
Do you still find it disrespectful if their poses were supposedly based off of a meme? Just curious.
For me, this is an example of outrage culture. FFS why not choose to appreciate that someone finds an aspect of your culture beautiful instead of choosing to be offended by it?
Oh Jesus! This cultural appropriation thing is getting ridiculous! Maybe we should all just walk around naked.
Far out we're getting more and more precious as the minutes tick by. I don't have a problem with it and I wouldn't have a problem with it if someone wore a dress resembling something from my culture either.
What makes a dress "Asian" and why should we care? I think its cool and it looks different
The dress is in the style of a qipao — a traditional Chinese outfit dating back to the 17th century.
