Was the Holocaust Because of Jews in Russia?

RationalMale

So we know the Holocaust in Germany happened roughly Jan 30, 1933 – May 8, 1945. We've all read about it, but the reasons always seem very vague. A Holocaust survivor I heard speak in college talked about racial hatred, but not much else. Other classes said it was because Jews worked heavily in finance and Nazi's wanted to seize power. Oddly enough even though I've ready plenty of Holocaust books, been to museums and such (my Dad is half Jewish and my coworkers even agree I look like David Mazouz could be my brother, so it's hardly an unfamiliar topic. Used to go to Beth Hallel synagogue too.)

Yet an article on the Jerusalem Post seems a lot more concrete on possible reasons... https://www.jpost.com/Magazine/Was-the-Russian-Revolution-Jewish-514323

"WAS THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION JEWISH?" I was a political science major but literally had heard almost nothing about this. Maybe those history classes were a rip off. After googling, wikipedia seems to claim much of this is BS, but I find it hard to believe the Jerusalem Post would be making this up. Interesting points from the article, which is very long and worth a read. Unfortunately not as interesting as Anastasia.

Did Events in Russia Contribute to the Holocaust?

To the article...

The leader was Vladimir Lenin, and he was taking his small group by sealed train for a weeklong journey that would end at Finland Station in St. Petersburg. Half a year later Lenin and some of his cohorts would be running a new state, the Russian Soviet Republic.... Lenin’s train had included 19 members of his Bolshevik party, several of his allies among the Mensheviks and six Jewish members of the Jewish Labor Bund. Almost half the passengers on the train were Jewish.

Yet history has largely forgotten them.

The article references Churchill,

Churchill claimed that the driving power came from Jewish leaders, who eclipsed their counterparts. He named names: Maxim Litvinoff, Trotsky, Grigory Zinoviev, Radek, Leonid Krassin. He called this tendency “astonishing” and accused Jews of playing “the prominent, if not indeed the principal part in the system of terrorism” that had then become known as “red terror” or the suppression of those in the Soviet Union who deviated from the communist line.

Trotsky was Jewish, but was killed when Lenin and he had a death match for power. But there was a top leadership. "Given the Soviet Union’s complexity and predilection for numerous layers of bureaucracy it is a difficult to quantify the number of Jews throughout senior leadership positions during and just after the revolution of 1917. Half of the top contenders in the Central Committee of the Communist Party to take power after Lenin’s health declined in 1922 – Lev Kamenev, Trotsky and Zinoviev – were Jewish. "

The evil foreign minister who is remember because Molotov Cocktails were mockingly named after him, "The large number of Jews in leading parts of the party was not lost on those non-Jews around them. V.M. Molotov, the powerful foreign minister of the Soviet Union under Stalin, made many remarks about Jews to Felix Chuev in a series of conversations between 1969 to 1986 that became the basis for the 1991 book Molotov Remembers. He recalled that as Lenin lay dying “at the time Jews occupied many leading positions, though they made up only a small percentage of the country’s population.” Of Zinoviev, he recalled, “He didn’t even look like a Jew.”"

Where am I going with this?

Simple. No, I'm not saying Jews are evil. I am Jewish, so is my dad and my siblings, so that would be pretty awful. But just as Americans and every people of every nation have a duty to recognize where their countrymen have done wrong, it seems dishonest that this isn't even mentioned in college.

So here's the point. The Communist takeover of Russia happened between the World Wars, and according to historical sources, was very much a Jewish movement. In the same time period, the USA had just one naval raid and imprisoned the Japanese population.

It seems likely this is actually what helped make the Holocaust happen. Think about it. Say a bloody overthrow of the Canadian government happened, and literally hundreds of thousands/millions of people were killed, and it was largely muslim led. What would we in the USA do? We'd probably lose our collective minds at the possibility of it repeating here. It seems logically that the massive bloodshed in Russia might have terrified enough Germans to help Adolf Hitler rise to power, leading to the Holocaust.

While Nazi Germany was indeed evil, it seems to me history has basically drawn them as demons riding giant spiders acting out of pure evilness, which might not be fair, especially considering that far more people were murdered under Communism in Russia than killed by Nazi Germany. Meaning, isn't Communism at least as evil as Nazism?

Did Events in Russia Contribute to the Holocaust?

Flip side also is--we're ignoring that Jews themselves were heavily involved in a revolution that resulted in literally a million plus people being slaughtered. Putting a false sainthood on a specific people seems pretty dishonest. Every people should be judged fairly, on the same standard. Saying the Jewish people are perfect seems as dishonest as Trump supporters who act like the USA was heaven on earth from 1776 onwards.
