They have been for decades, makes people more easily controlled
Simple money math is NOT a reliable measure of intelligence.
that is true but if you cannot write a term paper or make change you go out into the work force with a huge disadvantage.
@exitseven Not all or even most jobs involve these things.
I don't care. I would not hire anyone who could not do basic math and write a few complete sentences.
@exitseven what sort of job would you be hiring them for?
computer technician, help desk attendant, or technical trainer. But even if I was just hiring somebody to stock supermrket shelves I would want them the be able to do long division.
@exitseven For any regular job that is absolutely true. However, it may not be important for a cleaning lady comes in once a week or for the guy that mows your lawn.
I think this needs to be more nuanced. If I am hiring a gardener, I do not know if he can do simple math or make change. I will pay him by check. If I am hiring a person with a graduate degree, I need to know if he can diagnose illness, can read, and can engage in critical abstract thinking. Making change and writing is assumed.
@exitseven what in the world does long division have to do with stocking shelves? Even if it is somehow related, this is why we have calculators.
If you cannot add or subtract, you are not educated.
@msc545 It shows how motivated somebody is. A person that wants to learn basic math will want to learn how to the the job. A lot of employers do not care what you majored in as along as you graduated. They want somebody who finishes what they started.
@exitseven I guess I feel the same way about a college degree in any reasonable subject.
@exitseven @msc545 Employers seeking an electrical engineer might hire a physics major, they may even hire a math major. However, it is highly unlikely they would hire a history major nor most other majors.
@kelleynice Yes but a lot of places like sales organizations are looking for somebody with basic proficiency in math, English and the ability to follow directions and somebody who put in the 4 years of college and followed it to it's completion.
@exitseven I agree, for most jobs that is true.
Exit, you can always name a job that might require the simple things you think important, and so can I really. That does not make them important.
The answer to this title is homeschool by any means possible.
Sorry, but children simply cannot be allowed to run around the neighborhoods anymore. There are too many pedophiles.
Government and their media uses fear to control you. www.independent.org/pdf/tir/tir_10_3_10_etc.pdf
Like almost all people you have been conditioned to be afraid, and part of your fear is believing there is a pedophile hiding behind every tree. However, now that you know, hopefully you can overcome your irrational fears.
@KelleyNice Sweetie, those fears are not irrational. I'm sorry to tell you this, because I don't want you to be paranoid. But you should be aware. Due to the internet, deviance and perversion has grown exponentially. There are a lot of adults out there who are really messed up in the head. They are sick people, and they would do sick things if given the opportunity. (I personally believe that they are possessed by the Devil.)
So true!
