Sounds like a no brainer but not working as directed, screwing off, not competing assigned tasks, and the list goes on is a good way to ensure you’ll be shown the door. Most employers have patience for employees who are genuinely trying to work hard. But not following directives from the bosses is one of the most common wants people get fired.

Sexual Harassment
One of the biggest poor decisions people make especially when it comes to future employment is sexual harassment. This can be sexual touching, making sexual comments, jokes, or really anything that can be taken the wrong way. Know what lines not to cross with others, and also women can sexually harass people too I’ve seen it happen.

Gossip

Being involved in gossip is one good way to loose your job especially if you say something and someone else around says something. If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face don’t say it behind their back you never know whose around. Especially in a job where customers are around I’ve heard stories of people gossiping around customers just for that customer to complain.

Theft

This is another one that should be obvious is theft nobody likes a thief and stealing is many times a one strike you’re out type of situation. Many places have absolutely zero tolerance for theft of any kind.

Being Rude

Being rude to customers or other employees, even your superiors will get you fired. We all have to work around people we don’t really want to at some point in time but being rude will many times end up in you being terminated. Be kind and maybe people will treat you with kindness.

I don't know how true the gossip thing is. If it was actually being enforced, everyone at my work would've lost their jobs, and we'd have a high unemployment rate in general. Literally everyone gossips, and even if it was an enforceable policy, they would have to prove who started the rumor, which would be quite difficult. Usually you can get fired for divulging company secrets though.

True. Including the people who birch about people talking behind their back. But the only thing you hear them doing is talking about people and getting involved in drama even drama that doesn’t concern them at all.
