The REAL REASON why BREXIT happened, and why it MAKES SENSE

The United Kingdom (UK) is unique compared to other countries in Europe, members of the existing European Union (EU), making it reasonable to why the UK voted to leave the EU in 2016 in a process called Brexit. The break was formalized in 2020.

Here are some key areas that explain why Brexit made sense, in addition to the more discussed topics in the media, mostly dealing with economy.

Currency

Most countries in the EU use the Euro, first adopted as a standard currency by 11 counties in 1999, and later expanded to 20 countries (plus a few more, unofficially) as of 2023. The United Kingdom uses the pound sterling, which is one of the oldest currencies in the world.

Over time, the UK would have been pressured into abandoning the pound and use the Euro instead.

Language

Several of the EU countries share a common native language. Germany and Austria, for example, both speak German. France and Belgium (parts) speak French. Belgium (parts) and The Netherlands speak Dutch. Other countries share common root languages, and can often understand each other. France, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain speak Latin-based languages, while Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland (Swedish) share Norse-based languages.

The main language in the UK is English, with Wesh, Scottish and Irish also spoken.

No country in the EU speaks English and the others as its native language.

Driving

In all EU countries, vehicles drive on the right side of the road. In the UK, vehicles drive on the left. Would the UK eventually be forced to change to driving on the right, which would affect not just its roads but its auto industry?

Border Controls

All EU countries, plus several more, adhere to the Schengen Agreement, agreed to in 1985, wherein there are no checks to cross between one country and another country in the Schengen Area. The UK declined to participate in this, maintaining its own border controls.

Over time, it is likely that the UK would be encouraged to join the Schengen Area.

1: The UK would not have been pressured into abandoning its currency. The Eurozone is an exclusive club that is not pushed onto countries against their will. Personally I think switching to the Euro would actually be beneficial for the UK anyways but that is besides the point

2: If we are speaking about language families then English is tied to both Latin and Germanic so that argument falls apart easily enough. Also, pretty much everyone in Europe speaks English fluently. Furthermore this has nothing to with Brexit benefits since the UK is still stuck having to deal with the EU and Europe.

3: Again, no one is forcing the UK to do anything regarding driving directions. Especially since the UK is on its own island so their driving degeneracy does not impact anyone else directly. This also does not make any sense since there is no benefit to driving on the other side of the road outside of just being different for the sake of it.

4: Border controls is the only argument that you have actually put forward that would have any value. The problem is that immigration has increased since Brexit and at least as far as I have heard the government in the UK has yet to actually implement border controls which means you can just smuggle anything you want without security.

When inside the EU a lot of this process was streamlined which meant that after leaving it completely overwhelmed the UK's border controls to the point where they could not perform their jobs. The process of training more border agents and building out the infrastructure required to perform these controls is literally still ongoing and not expected to finish for a while yet.

This has lead to a lot of problems such as an influx of dangerous and expired food, drugs, human smuggling etc..

But yeah. This is not even mentioning the pros of staying within the EU or what the UK has lost since leaving. Suffice to say that the UK can't actually survive outside of the EU. Rejoining is inevitable but it will be under far less beneficial conditions since the UK will no longer enjoy their earlier exemptions and power within the union.

The sad reality is that countries has to respect geographic distances. Your enemies and friends as well as trading partners are all determined mainly by how close they are. Closing your eyes and pretending that you are no longer inside Europe will not make these geographic realities any less real.

These are lies, I have been living in London, UK for almost 7 years and all of this is nonsense.
UK is one of the founding countries of the EU, being an organization that was formed and defined by the UK along with the other 11 states.
UK left the EU amid massive disinformation, a constant informational attack that is reflected in newspapers and fake news, coming FROM RUSSIA!
Since leaving the EU, the UK has not been doing well economically, the demand for labor has increased significantly, many programs of medical institutions have been shortened due to lack of personnel and funding (funding that also came from the EU), food prices are increasing very quickly due to taxes and customs controls, recently an additional control for all imported products has been implemented in the UK, which has increased the costs of imports even more, subsequently being felt in the prices of zicudi.
The real estate market is out of control, the UK is trying to build, a lot of houses to try to reduce those costs in rents and sales/purchases. Without EU funds these projects are not efficient, the progress of the projects being a totally minuscule one, with EU funds this efficiency would increase, many more homes could be built which would reduce the price.
Nigel Farage, a pro-Brexit politician being mentioned in the book Putin's Trolls by Jessica Arron, an author harassed by Russian services even in Finland. Nigel Farage being accused of collaborating with the RUSSIAN FSB services!

The real reason it happened is people had been dripfed bent banana stories by the tabloids. There was a myth that the eu was telling us what to do and we needed to reclaim our freedom. Many simply thought they were protesting against the government of the day, lots thought it was about kicking non whites out, others erroneously believed money would be directed to the NHS, most got swept along in flag shagging jingoistic xenophobia if you didn't want to leave then you weren't a patriot

It did not make sense. It was a major economic decision put in the hands of people who couldn't spell economy without a spell checker.

We were never told what the plan was if we left. People filled in the blanks themselves. UKIP wasn't been elected, any changes would have to go through Parliament with a near 50/50 split in leavers and remainers. Hardly anything people hoped for has happened, its cost billions shop prices have rocketed, and its ruined a lot of businesses.

It never stopped immigration, we lost a lot of professional and skilled people and got thousands of semi illiterate Africans instead.

British politician wanted similar connection to EU like Norway or Switzerland have it. Those both countries have access to EU markets without being obliged to bureaucracy from Brussels. EU could agree to this form of cooperation but the consequence was most EU countries would prefer this type of cooperation, instead dealing with EU commission that is only interested in bottle caps remain on bottles and Ali and Muhamed have free access to your fridge and bedroom when you're good looking white woman.
Some politician in UK realized that EU won't comply this time, there won't be special treatment like for Norway and Switzerland. Some of them wanted rowing back but public in UK was on war path against EU, so Brexit happened.

I think there is a more fundamental reason and the ones listed are superficial in contrast.

It is that there were winners and losers in globalization. It was certainly true in my country (Australia) and I know it is true in the UK because poorer areas of the UK were solidly for Exit whilst the richer areas were solidly Remain. In both countries a large section considered politicians were actively acting against their interests.

We had a politician I shall described as a Trumpett. She wasn't a particularly smart woman and she could have done a lot more damage to the major parties had she had a few more synapses. The conservative PM of the time managed it fairly well. She is still kicking around in Parliament but has little influence.

I tend to see US politics in this light. Maybe rightly or maybe wrongly.
