Yes it is time to rant because I'm disgusted with this country, "United" States Of America.

As someone who is half black and half puerto rican I thank my maker everyday that I was not born fully black, why? Because being black in this country is arguably one of the worst disadvantages that is completely out of your control. Now I myself have not completely endured all the discrimination that comes with being black (I'm light skinned so it rarely happens) but I myself have witnessed plenty of it. Quite frankly I'm being real when I say that African Americans have it worse then any other ethnicity inside this country, period.

Africans were enslaved in this country for hundreds of years. Even once "Liberated" they were still legally enslaved through chain gangs and indentured servitude. African - Americans (minorities in general) have been the habitual victims of this country yet they are always vilified. We pretend that once slavery ended that blacks no longer suffered horrendous abuse, racism, and violence from whites. Their property and business were habitually robbed, stolen and destroyed WELL into the 80s. Native Americans and Native Hawaiian's suffered/continue to suffer similar injustices, minorities in general.

The worse part? The racism against blacks still hasn't stop and it's even more exacerbated because it's masked which makes African America people still look like the villains. Just turn on your T.V and you'll see how all minorities are deeply hated, malevolent, uneducated, primitive humans with no regard to anything or anyone and they're always treated less then bacteria (How many black shootings before something is finally done?). People always say that they're "least attracted to blacks" and black people suffer the worst social stereotypes there are, please do not try to say otherwise - Black people are the least to be found in T.V shows, the least to be found in movies (Unless they're an extra or REALLY famous and relevent and even then they're most likely just used to be a clown) and overall are represented horribly even in the etertainment industry. There are enough statistics to show that black children are treated the worst and are perceived as older, more vicious, and less intelligent than other children, by teachers and society - Numbers do not lie.

I'm sorry if I offended any African Americans, but the fact is that we will always be treated like second class citizens inside this country and nothing is going to stop that. Minorities in genral will always have it the worse in any society, but the fact is African Americans have it the worst in America because of our depressing history with this nation. Our whole country was built upon the slavery of our own kind and the least they could do is come and apologize for committing one of the most malevolent acts known to mankind, but instead we're still treated like garbage and it's fact.

Anyone who reads this and denies what I'm saying can go ahead and live in denial thinking that America is some sort of "evolved" nation who's majority has moved past primitive acts like racism, but the fact is we haven't.

If you think you have it tough here, go to Europe , racism is rarely talked about cause there's no history of slavery, and due to that, there are many racists there, and nothing is done about it.
When are gonna black neighborhoods stop with the killing of their own people? You whine when a white man kills a black man, but say nothing when every night there's black on black murder.
You complain there aren't many blacks in TV, but fail to realize that blacks are only a 14% of the US population, therefore, it's obvious there's gonna be less blacks on TV.
I'm not denying there's still some racism on the US, many old people were born before blacks had rights, and they raised their kids like that. Give it some time until racism is almost gone, but you can't expect a full mentality change in less than 100 years.
Oh, and by the way, why don't you talk about how minorities are racist too? They are the first ones to complain when there's racism against them, and also the first ones to hide their head when they're the racist ones.

Honestly at this point I feel like black people are the main ones bringing themselves down. Self-loathing is SO rampant amongst black people and many tear one another down for having "nappy" hair or dark skin, and praise the ones with "whiter" features like light skin and loosely curled hair. It's disgusting. Many even say things like "you're acting so black" or "you're so dark" as INSULTS.

I feel like it's even worse when people of your own kind are the ones giving you this inferiority complex and whatnot because they're not only the ones who you're oftentimes around the most but also the ones who SHOULD be instilling in you knowledge and appreciation of your heritage. It's really, really sad, but I can't see it changing anytime soon if ever.

As a fellow black American, I find the institutional racism rather amusing.

Let me explain why.

No other ethnic group is systematically disadvantaged from the very top, like it is against black Americans.

If we as black Americans weren't seen as a powerful, strong, determined, passionate people aka "a threat" by the people at the very top (aka rich white people)...

... we wouldn't be so disadvantaged at every step of American socio-economics.

People like me and @mr90skid understand the deep-rooted fear of black power by the people at the top 1% of the socio-economic scale, and that is where our pride and confidence comes from. :-D

P. S. There is a reason why the fear of "black power" is almost never discussed in the press; the people who control the media (the top 1%) doesn't want to intentionally empower black Americans. It's the 21st century. I have plenty of friends who are black and have successful careers, not once being bothered by cops or "institutional racism". Family friends from church are immigrants from Nigeria, they stated out having nothing, now they have a wonderful home. kids who graduated college, and successful medical field careers

I have no idea why the Black community doesn't look as hard, or even at all, at black on black crime, especially murder. Black men are responsible for half of all murders and the majority of their victims are also black but they just don't seem to care. I agree there's a race problem no one can deny that, and it's not going away overnight so buckle down. It has been getting better though despite what news stations would have you believe, we do need to reform police depts, but not just because they're killing blacks, because they're killing people period. Blacks are only a small percent of the people that have been killed in police shootings, the others are not on the news for obvious reasons.

I strongly disagree with the idea that whites should apologize for slavery, that's a ridiculous idea it really is. Should we apologize for the nazi holocaust and roman rule as well? Because we had the same amount of involvement in all of them, zero. Only a small portion of whites in America have family who owned slaves. Around 5%. And even in the south during the times of slavery, about 20% even owned slaves.

A history of slavery? The whole world has a history of slavery, for some reason it's only stuck on the United states. It's estimated that only about 5% of the slaves shipped from Africa went to the US, and how much better off would they be in Africa? In the country they were originally enslaved in the first place?

It's a fact that America is ONE of the best places for blacks to live. Anyone who doesn't see that hasn't travelled much. The biggest problem facing blacks in America today is not racism, but fatherless homes. Being raised without a father is the best predictor of jail time, not race

I'll admit that it's probably not easy being the average black dude in the US. But a lot of those problems are imposed by the government and black people themselves.

In the 1960s blacks were actually experiencing something of a renaissance period. Sure, they were segregated but their businesses were strengthening and black people imposed middle class values in their neighborhoods. Around this time was when the Harlem Renaissance and people like MLK Jr. and Dubois bloomed.

Then the government forced desegregation. This actually set the black community back a great deal because they weren't ready to compete with the big corporations. Desegregation also forced middle class blacks to move into the suburbs leaving urban centers leaderless, which led to a lot of inner city problems with blacks and such that continue into today. If the free market did its thing there would be less problems.

It also doesn't help that black americans have the highest incidence of single motherhood. A lot of problems could be solved if most blacks just had solid father figures and stop imposing victimhood mentality on their kids.

Even blacks from africa livng in the US do better than some black americans because they don't bitch about racism.

African-Americans complain and whine about everything. They get special consideration for schools, jobs and promotions. They are always given a head start and yet they still can't comete because they were never taught to value the things that lead to success like focusing in STEM degrees for college, or even just going to college.

They want to blame others but they shoukd blame older black males who did not marry their mothers, give them guidance and keep them from trouble, work to bring in money to send them to college and fill their lives with life long learnings such as vacations to see historic sites, museums, etc.

Their schools have all the money that the better schools havenin the suburbs, and at time even more! They want black school boards, black mayor, black police cheifs, majority black police force like in Baltimore and STILL want to blame white people. In Baltimore the one who faces the biggest crime is black. Three of the six are black. How i convient facts are like they have been in many of these cases. Burned down the only drug store in a mile and they think that led to progress and that they DID something. The charges would have come anyway.

73% of black kids are born to Single Moms, that is the biggest issue. Black males do not want to raise their kids because it takes money away from them having a good time, period. Here is an article from CNN's black anchorman.

I'm completely late on this post, but I agree with your post. I've witnessed racism countless times and having growing up with mostly white friends, they've even shown racist sides and it admitted it to me. However, not every person is racist at heart. They may say something that offends you, but many times, they don't realize that what they're saying is a racial offense. We have to make the change for ourselves. Whether you may be a victim of racism or not, you can't take the "victim role". You need to stand up, be the bigger person and show the world that you are not just some dumb negro. The media often portrays the bad side of African Americans more so than the good. The blacks who are so angry and destroying things neeed to wake up. They complain about being treated less than but what do they expect when many of their own people are taking adavntages of bad situations and destroying things to give the mainstream work a "taste of their own medicine". I've had INDIVIDUALS discriminate against me, but I don't hold it against all of America. I make the choice for myself to be the best person I can be and shut out any hate. I'm not ashamed of being black; I'm actually proud of being black. Even though racism is still common, WE as African Americans have made it! We should be greatful of what our ancestors have done to get us where we are (in a lot better situation than they were). Yes, slavery happened, but most white people today are not owning slaves! We need to move past that and stop holding grudges against white people who have done nothing to us.

Things about myself, that I try to keep in mind when I experience the bit of racism that is all too obvious:
-Her family's back ground. She knows that her family has been free for at least 12 generations, she is the 10th. For 150 years, her family also own 500 acres of land that still produces oil.
-She has righteous black men and righteous black women in her family.
-Her best friend and lover are both Mexican, but they love her as their own family, and even admire her kinky hair and dark skin.
-Her lover loves touching her hair and has told her many times that he wants to have black babies with her.
-Her god mother is an 80 year old Korean woman that has always loved her,
-Her family through the harsh adversity of years of racism in previous decades still maintained their millionaire status.
-She loves her African, American, and Native roots.
-Black babies are beautiful, mixed black babies are beautiful, other races of babies are beautiful, because ALL BABIES ARE BEAUTIFUL.
-Racism is not to common, but what she could be experiencing is class-ism, which is something most are completely ignorant of.
-She's a lot smarter, and more accepting of people than they will ever be of her, but that's okay She continues to spread love, knowledge and encouragement to others in the black community... Just like she received growing up.

Seriously, this is stuff that I have to keep in mind, because some will make you way more angry than it is worth it.

There are definite set backs to being black in America, no one can deny black people are heavily stereotyped (usually in highly negative ways), and that if you're black statistically employers will pick them for interviews less (even if they have the same credentials) and yeah,
I'm also part African American and people sometimes don't know you're part black and they'll say really messed up stuff and you realize a lot more people are prejudiced than you think.
Just never become bitter, being black or part black is never a bad thing. People are the source of the problem, people make you (and I) feel angry sometimes, but it's the not the melanin's fault, it's the idiots fault.

I live in china and I totally agree with you. Even just me coming back from a holiday with a tan and my local neighbours start bitching about how "dark" I have become. My African friends face major racism, such as taxis never wanting to pick them up, locals pointing and sniggering at them, not being able to buy something and not being let into places because they are dark skinned. Who exactly do you think should apologize? President Clinton did apologize for America's part in slavery so there already has been an apology made. Or do you think every non black person should apologize to every black person we meet for something that we had nothing to do with? The people you seem to think should apologize for slavery are no more at fault for slavery than you are. When you have to bring up injustices from before you are born, it just shows you don't haven't any valid complaints to make.
