Is being intimidating a bad thing?

So I have been told that I am intimidating but I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or as an imsult what I found out online most people talk about it badly but I'm not sure. Any opinions please.

Ok so I have a mean kind of looking face. you can say that I have a basic bi*** face, I mean I try to smile but if I have no one to talk to I just don't smile. When people get to know me they tend to say that they thought I was a bi*** but after getting to know me saw that I was actually really nice.

Well your intention is not to be intimidating, but rather its other people projecting that your resting face is what 'they' thought was intimidating. Huge difference. Intimidating people tend to be seen as a negative, those that are purposefully trying to be, because you're doing so usually to illicit fear or compliance. Its not always a negative, in fact, sometimes its necessary. A parent must look intimidating to a child when s/he is trying to do something that may endanger them like running out into the street or a cop may need to intimidate a suspect to get them to confess. However others use this as a method to scare people or elicit fear for reasons of power and dominance and that's the level people don't like.

F the haters. If you are really worried just try to start conversations, people are usually more appreciative and open to people who start interactions with them. Especially if that person may come off as intimidating.

I've been told by guys that I intimidate them because I am fairly attractive, confident and outgoing. It used to annoy me but now I just realized that it just means I'm awesome.

It can be I guess. In college I had a friend who was about 6-7, burly, and a face like a train wreck - you wouldn't want to run into him in an alley. He was also about the mellowest, most easygoing guy I knew.

One day he got on the bus and sat next to some small, timid-looking guy. The next time the bus stopped the guy got up and moved, and later got off the bus. When my friend got up to leave he found he had been sitting on a pair of glasses - the guy must have had them on the seat and been too afraid to say anything.

Intimidating in your case means that people either find you too attractive to talk with/flirt with, too standoffish to talk with/flirt with, or both.

Ultimately, whether you like it or not is up to you.

"Intimidating" isn't exactly an insult, but it's not a great thing either. It means people like you but would like you even better if you tone it down a little. Intimidating makes people uncomfortable to be around you, and who would want that?

Attractive people or strong looking people who don't talk a lot get labeled this way sometimes. People are afraid to talk to them because they don't seem to like talking to others, when really they might just be shy or quiet.
