Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

The anti-authoritarian in me wishes he had succeeded, but the realist knows it wouldn't have changed much in the long run.

[BellePepper]

He was a Catholic trying to blow up a bunch of protestants. IE one person of a religion trying to blow up people of a different religion because of religion. He was totally a terrorist.

[Asker]

I thought he was trying to blow up an opressive king and his aristocratic parliament?

[BellePepper]

He literally said one of his motivations was disliking *protestant* rule.

[Asker]

Nobody should rule anyone.

[BellePepper]

Okay well thanks for being an anarchist. I'm sure you'll be useful to some fringe group some day.

[Asker]

Nah thats not me I like to vote those who wish to lead into power which is something guy faukes couldn't do.

[Explore2016]

Natlie Portman's hair and dress look amazing.
Guy Fawkes was a total hero fighting for religious freedom in a country where no one but king and parliament were free.

[fauchelevent]

It's possible for someone to be both at once, depending on who looks at them, I guess. He was a terrorist, but that doesn't mean he wasn't also a hero.

[jacquesvol]

One group's freedom fighter is another group's terrorist.

[Asker]

Yes just like Sadam Hussain.

[BlackDynamite83]

Hero all monarchs deserve death!

[NerdInDenial]

I said a bit of both, but then again the founding fathers of the United States were considered to be traitors / terrorists.

[Anonymous]

Neither, he was set up https://www.bonfirenight.net/framed.php

[chuppachup]

Technically he is a terrorist but he is a terrorist I would stand by if I was born in the 1600s.

He is a hero in my eyes.

[ThatBritishLad]

All I know is that the V for Vendetta film fucked up V's portrayal so badly that he's become the hero of neckbeards everywhere.

[oksurething]

You do know that Guy Fawkes is a real person, right? He's not just a character in V for Vendetta. And you got the poem wrong.

[Anonymous]

I love the quote, I love V for Vendetta. But if I'm not mistaken Guy Fawkes was trying blow up parliament on religious grounds, Catholic vs Protestant.

[Vivian42]

The plot of the Catholics was to reinstate a Catholic theocracy through violence. Even if it was a noble cause, the ends do not justify the means

[Asker]

Would you say the sam about the American Revolution?

[Vivian42]

The American Revolution was originally peaceful, it turned violent when the British attacked. It was an inherently defensive war.

[Asker]

But if thr ends dont justify the means?

[DeenaGupro]

cos it'zs some dopey holiday invnted for kids... and terrorist? Well no... he had no real right to kill King James... but if little kiddies want to bob apples, so be it.

[Asker]

Do tyrants not deserve to die?

[DeenaGupro]

who satys he was a tyrnat? I don't believe anybody deserves to die.

[DeenaGupro]

and your points are stupid, since as a student in British history, you're way off the base in many areas..

[Asker]

He was an unelected king with the power of life and death over ordinary people that he lived a grand life by standing on their backs that equals tyrant.

[DeenaGupro]

yep. and in the 17th century liberal democracy was prized and in existence... haha fool.

[Asker]

Well duh!

[DeenaGupro]

haha... so what's your point? somebody answereed your question, and you bitch haha...

[Asker]

You mean debate?

[DeenaGupro]

no, i answer as i please. you clearly not here for debate, just to say who can or cannot post what which is patently baseless.. hahaha loooolololol.

[Asker]

If that was thr case I would have blocked anyone who disagreed from commenting further would you not agree?

[Elegost325i]

Yeah he was a fall guy if anything

[abundantlyrich]

He's a martyr

[Hercules073]

I don't know what that is. I went with option 3.
