I haven't been following this topic since it first gained mainstream attention so I could very well be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're arguing that the 1% - 4% DNA is actually the common ancestor of both Neanderthalensis and us, and not specifically Neanderthal dna since there wouldn't have been enough interbreeding (or even evidence of it) to support the hybridization theory.

I'm pretty sure scientists don't even really classify Neanderthals as all that different from Homo-Sapien since, again, it's theorized that Homo-Sapien evolved from Neanderthals (in fact, I'm pretty sure that Neanderthals taxonomy is 'Homo-Sapiens-Neanderthalensis).

If I'm not mistaken a lot of us have Neanderthal genes. But that doesn't mean we're directly descended from Neanderthals. There was just some inter-species sex going on back when Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis encountered each other. The Neanderthals lost out of course.

Everyone has like 1-2% Neaderthal genes at most. Altogether, worldwide, there's about 40% of a complete Neanderthal genome that has been recognized by scientists.

whatever the combo, it made us have gorgeous women and people who are pretty smart. Asians (Chinese/Japanese type asians) have a slightly higher IQ than us but less creativity... and caucasians on average score a lot higher than hispanics or blacks or indians.
