That is a wild sheep and what domestic sheep are descended from. However as you can see from the top pic, there are reasons you have to do this. Seriously between the unnecessary putting down of abused dogs, vegan pet food, and this, I would not want to be an animal in the care of PETA

PETA reminds me of the Green Team.

What is the point of telling loggers that they can't clean up the area they cut down? Not only does this mean that popular tourist roads (The Great Ocean Road) are now subject to the fucking horrid view of an area that's had loggers go at it, but it's also stopping them from replanting the trees they just cut down, which, yeah great, the mess can be used for ground animals as homes (read feral cats) but what about the native birds? What about our native wild life that thrive off our native flora that they're stopping us from replanting.
Oh, sorry tourists, we have no more koalas because the Green Team stopped the loggers from replanting the gum trees.
Oh, sorry recreational fishermen, the Green Team has made it illegal to catch more than one fish a day, and the only fish you can catch is carp.

It is possibly a badly worded article - The second paragraph hints at the problems of sheep having too much wool - Maybe if there was a push for humane husbandry and shearing of the sheep, the concerns of the likes of PETA could be assuaged but economic factors would kick in on the price of wool so that would be difficult - I take a lot of these articles with a pinch of the salt if the modern age has taught us anything is that a version of events can be created with a minimum of facts and a lot of creativity - Unfortunately it happens on all sides.

PETA is full of nut cases, but there is a very good argument in that these animals need to be treated humanely, but thats across the board. The care of all animals that are producers needs to be improved.

It doesn't hurt the sheep to be shorn, and the material is bio-degradable and doesn't harm the environment like plastic-based insulating materials.
I remember that sheep, it avoided being shorn for years in the highlands of Scotland, IIRC.

PETA generally don't have their brains firing on all cylinders. Their solution for all the livestock left alive if they did get their way would almost certainly be euthanasia - they already euthanize thousands of cats and dogs every year.
