They aren't mutually exclusive = being different doesn't make one less equal to another (in fact it's proven that the more diverse a group = the more differences, the stronger the group)

Biologically we are different. Psychology we are different in SOME ways but not all. Legally we SHOULD be equal but we unfortunately are not currently.

How are we not equal legally? You can vote legally and get the same jobs legally, plus it's illegal go discriminate someone based on their race or gender in a workplace. I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from here.

There is no legal wage gap. That's a myth, and it's easy enough to find proof if you look in your state's legislature. On paper, we also have equal court rights. Abortion is still a touchy subject though, I'm afraid we may never be quite equal there...

@RedVulcan men get far less rights than women in courts. Women get lesser or no sentences for the same offence, they get a major bias in family court. Some men take their own lives because they have to pay ex's a huge chunk of salary as support. Women always get custody even if marriage was dissolved by her which is the case 90% of the time in America. Hell if he catches her cheating the court will still make the man pay her alimony. Yeah women always get far more rights than men. All this oppressed shit is blatant lies by lesbians

We can't be equal in abortion because men don't need abortion. It is an "extra" legislation that would have to cater to only women thereby discriminating men.

The reason why it would be discriminatory to men is because Abortion is actually legal in the US, however it is the only privilege women contend should become a right that should also be subsidised by government.

Go to almost every state in the US, you can perform an abortion If you are ready to pay a private medical practitioner.

      Reply
    • Joti_Harrison

However, it is not a basic human right by many people's standard and therefore it should not be accrued our state taxes nor funded or subsidised by the working people of the US. Women would be the only partakers of our funds in that respect. It would be more like a special privilege our government accrues to ONLY women.

Besides nobody would want to fund someone else's personal decision to have sex and then abort their child. For many it is a moral dilemma they would rather their money (taxes) not go towards. You would be breaching people's religious freedom by including their money to fund something that goes against their values and everything they stand for.

Most people believe women can use their abortion privilege as long as they don't get rewarded by government with our taxes for it.

You don't think the question lacks maturity?

Maybe they are equal in value. . . but different in strengths/weaknesses.

Isn't that a much more mature, fully formed way to think about it?

Equal there is no difference between male and female ever many is a woman and every woman is a man but women are missing one part well technically they have it but it didn't grow but they still have a penis it's just flat.

To think otherwise is thought crime punishable by big brother and the DNC. If you don't understand this post it“s because you're a racist

They should be equal in front of the law -
as in same punishment for same crime equal rights for a job. But on average, there are differences (physical, mental, and emotional) between men and women.

two things cannot be equal unless they are exactly the same. as long as nature has given women one thing which men can never have, equality is impossible, and attempts at it constitute discrimination against men.

The use of "equal" in the question throws it off. The opposite of different is same. Not equal. A synonym for same is equal, sure. But with using different and equal people think "equal treatment /rights".

No, of course men and women are not the same. We are very different. We each have different skills to ensure the reproduction and survival of our species.

In that aspect, one is not wholly better than the other. We are generally "better" at different things, skills, and mindsets. And we could be better served to acknowledge those general gender differences when making career or romantic choices, in addition to individual character.

@Nasebear Women are better at some things and men are better at other. For me in the end we're equal, we have things we're good at and things we're bad at. Doesn't mean one gender is better than the other it's like this define "equality".

    Both where different and equal.
Where built to be distinctly stronger women live about 5% longer which may seem small but is quite significant and they might even be marginally sharper.

Men and women are equal in dignity, but not the same.

Different YET equal. :) Here's the important thing to remember: "Equal" does not mean "the same as"; "different" does not mean "lesser than." Sure there are differences. The majority of human beings seem to subscribe easily to heteronormative gender roles, but many also do not. I probably have more in common temperamentally with an effeminate artsy man than I do with a butch lesbian who is into sports and... I don't know... a military career or something. :P Let's celebrate diversity and acknowledge that even though we are different, we are all equally important and deserve the same rights. :)

We're clearly different and not equal physically and mentally speaking. Even legally and as far as rights go were not equal.

In terms of value we are equally important. But we are not even close to being the same

equal and different are not mutually exclusive terms. (e. g. two $5s and a $10 are equal and different)
