Trending & News Depends who is aking, if it is a friend or someone you met, it's just conversation and to get to know you, if it is in a professional situation, respect, if it's form debt, theu want to make sure if you can pay and if it's the government, they want to milk you dry.
It does seem to be the case most of the time. But sometimes people just make small talk as well. Or are curious.

No, sure I may get a bit of respect for the job I do but I would rather have respect for the accomplishments I've done. Its also a good way to start a conversation
It's also interesting and gives you something to talk about, but I have a feeling that A is at least in part the rationale. Thus, I said A.

They ask because they have nothing better to ask. Don’t think too much into it. It’s a boring question and very few people actually care about the answer unless it’s something truly noteworthy.
That's why I always call myself a conjectureal technologist.
