If they find out that the fetus is a girl, should the mother have the choice to abort if she wanted a boy? Because let's face it, she prefers boy child. Her husband and in-laws probably do too. Isn't it better if she aborts it than bringing it into a misogynistic world and then make the lives of both daughter and mother miserable forever? The girl will be disliked, neglected, probably forced to marry at a young age so her parents get rid of her financial burden. The mother will probably also be blamed for bearing a girl child and her husband might threaten to divorce her or even put their lives on line.
Isn't it better she be not born at all than be born in a family where she isn't valued and cared for? Isn't it better if the mother just gets rid of the female fetus overall and get back into a normal and secure life not having to think of the burden that comes with a girl child anymore? Like who the fuck are you to say that it's sexist? If she wants to get rid of a girl then let it be, right? I know this one woman who became so sad when her third child ended up being a daughter too, that she cried. Why put mothers into so much sadness and despair?
And same for boy child too. What if a mother decides she wants daughter only so she aborts her boy fetus? Is THAT okay?

A lot of people don't have much good idea about it I guess... Maybe because most of you are born in places where you did not have preference for boy child over girl child, but ok.
A question to those who are pro-choice. Is female infanticide justifiable?
Within the regular phase of legal abortions, which lasts between 3-4 months in most countries, abortions should be allowed for any and all reasons. No questions asked. You don't want this child? Okay. After the 12-week (or 16-week) limit, abortions should only be allowed for very special and important reasons (rape, danger to the health of the mother etc.).
It should also be said however that your scenario is rather unrealistic in the Western Hemisphere. While female infanticide may still be common in Bangladesh (I can't judge), quite the opposite is true for North America, Europe and other first world countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Japan. In these industrialized regions of the world, the trend for preferred sex among expecting parents has drastically changed during the past 20 years. While boys used to be much more popular for hundreds of years up until the 1990s, it is now girls. There are polls and studies indicating that parents these days would much rather have a girl (or several girls) than a boy. In fact, this trend is now so strong that one could make the case that girls are the sex of the future. They possess many of the skills and natural talents a person of the postmodern era needs. They are sociable, creative and many other things. The sheer truculency of men loses its demand rapidly. On top of that, baby boys are nowadays considered the more challenging children. They are loud, wild, can't sit still in class, mischievous etc.. And while I personally don't believe in all of these stereotypes, even I have to admit that I'd rather have a baby girl than a baby boy. Ideally, I'd love to have one of each but what I hope I won't have is two boys.
Abortion or killing of girl child isn't much of a thing here but it is in some places. In many places it is so horrible, men attack or divorce their wives for having daughter.
It is! But in many places like China also they would prefer to keep a boy instead of a girl when they had the one child policy because boys keep family name. Despite history proving that it is not always boys who necessarily do it.
I think any abortus decision should be for the sake of the child based on the question what would be better for there life an abortion or birth? I also think it should happen as soon as possible as you start to notice your pregnant so essentially after missing your period for the first time. Once the fetus is grown to the point where you can tell its gender you shouldn't be aborting in general.
Also that is a very dark world view you hold, if that is the state of your country you should spawn an equal rights moment and stop accepting that kind of abuse from the men.
And no it isn't prevalent here. There is some gender bias and favoritism but female infanticide isn't a thing mainly because as Muslims, the first child being daughter is seen as a blessing as it is mentioned in the Hadith. Abortion is also not lawful in Islam unless it is necessary. But because of our culture there is still some bias. If you know what I mean.
Also, in many places girl child can't inherit property but a lot of money has to be spent for their dowry when they marry, and they are seen as burden for having no contribution to society. WHat about them?
You already know my answer, if the parents wait until they know if its a boy or not they are capable of raising a child. If its one of those countries where the girl would be murdered on birth abortion is a lesser evil but i object to both in those cases. I am aware there are financial situations where the boy can grow up essentially as a money slave for the parents rather then dieing off starvating which is why i believe if you can't afford a girl you shouldn't be having a boy either.
I get it too. I don't even support abortion to begin with. However in such places to get a girl married her parents have to sell literally all their properties and take even more loans maybe. Who wants that?
@update , I don't think its that we lack the idea of this. Its more like our cultures rejected this idea long ago and we condemn killing over race and treating each other that different. Western culture is the least racist regardless of what all the slander may make it seem.
The gender of a baby is recognized around the 16th-20th week. Unless there's a medical reason for it after the 10th week, I don't think it's justifiable. But if it would really put the mother and the daughter in danger after the birth, then I guess that makes an exception. We, from our standpoints, couldn't possibly understand such motives, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong.
I'm pro-choice, but not because the mother didn't get the gender she was hoping for. I'm also not an advocate for late term abortions. The views and thoughts you express in this are situational and don't apply to everyone. Not even where you live. This is a very narrow view on the world and a very negative one as well.
Honestly word on the wind tells me that this mentality is becoming a lot more common with more women seeing any child they make less as people and more as... property with which they can do with however they see fit.
This is not my viewpoint or anything. But it happens in many Asian countries. But regardless of the place or race of people this question is more of general that applies for everyone, but especially where aborting females is common because of how society views them.

As i've stated before im pro SMART- Choice. I do not support in anyway giving people the ability to get an abortion because it wasn't the right gender. I do not approve of being able to get an abortion without telling the father (Only telling, if you still wanna do it after the fact then thats on you) And i say that mostly because i don't appreciate how women are given the privilege the basically allow their spouses to keep living a lie. As that basically tells me that the relationship is not equal and never was, and you only have a child when you want to and the mans say doesn't matter. So no i'm not for abortion as it stands now as it can be weaponized to be used against men.
@Malik00 There was a question about giving men abortion rights a while ago on here and I'm in the same boat as you. I don't think a woman should have the choice to get one without the fathers consent. I also don't think abortion should be used as a means for birth control.
Uhhhh nope. Because the issue is about temportality and how there is more to being a person than the the physical and mental properties of a thing in the present and the past. It is not about being a person in the regular sense of the word or about being of a certain sex, it is about the ability to become a more complex being with basic rights. So anything that could become a woman with rights has the right to not be killed just because it is not the kind of being that other beings prefer it to be.
Personally I have not meet anyone who is so invested into having boys but oh well.. As for your "female infanticide", it has very little to do with abortion itself. It has more to do with our ability to identify the gender of the baby before its being born which would be the same if we for example magically divined it before she got pregnant through sex.
What you are actually against appears to be the ability to confirm the gender or make a choice based on that.

Yes, I do believe it is a justifiable reason to abort a child. In fact, the more moronic of a reason you have to abort a child, the better it is that you do abort it.
If someone wants to abort a child because pregnancy is going to ruin their "physique" then it is objectively better for the child to be aborted. The future prospects of a child being born to a parent like that are very bleak.
I'm pro-choice. I think about the dates of rape babies and mother's with highly risky pregnancies. For example if the mother dies in child birth the child could die with her, be hated by the father. Or more rarely than you would think treasured as the last thing from his lover. Plus it's not really any of my business. They have to live with their own decisions.
I'm basically not very okay with the idea of aborting at all. I mean if the child comes from a rape or something like this, I would understand. But an abortion decided over the baby's sex seems very unfair to me

It's not abortion when they wait for the gender. That's infanticide based on gender. Abortion is done because of circumstances and not because of preference as she was capable of being a mother, she just wanted to kill her son because she'd rather have a boy.
Wait nvm, I'd be against this because when you know the gender, it is really late. I only support first trimester abortions for whatever reason. So I guess I find it wrong, not because of gender, but because you shouldn't be aborting unless it's an emergency in your second trimester (when you find out the sex).
It is a thing for obvious reasons. Not like it is just because it's a girl. It is because of the extra financial burden that comes with a girl child with no returns to it.
That's because it's a girl! You don't have a baby for financial benefits or you're not fit for motherhood. And they can see the gender at very early stage of development.
"Okay" is subjective. Would I disapprove of it? Absolutely. The world needs more women. I'd much rather see 3-5 females for every male born. This makes no sense. The "parent" would not know how the child's life would be, and a GOOD parent would make sure the child's life is the best it can be, male or female.
A woman has the right to chose if it was not planned. Most of the times an unplanned pregnancy can ruin a woman’s life, and she has the right to not want to go through it.
