Do pro-choicers still believe abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare"?

"Safe, legal, and rare" was the motto under Bill Clinton. Is that still the belief? If so, what can and should be done to make it rare?

I don’t really care if it’s rare just that it’s safe and legal. I think it’s a privilege to be pro life. It’s easy to push life onto others if you didn’t grow up around poverty, drugs, kids in the system, enduring sexual/mental, physically abuse at the hands of a parent. I’ve witnessed so many children growing up in loveless homes abortion would have been a kindness. I believe abortion is a sin but I don’t believe religion has a place in law making. it’s not mine (or anyone else’s) place to pass judgement that is personal between a women and whatever higher power she believes in

Abortion should be the last line of defence, something to fall back on when your contraception fails or you get raped. It shouldn't be the first option in your birth control plan and I think most women accept that.

To make it rare you educate, educate, educate. You make sure girls grow up knowing about contraception, it's reliability, why it sometimes goes wrong, and more importantly where to get it. You make the morning after pill easy and cheap to get hold of.

You steer them away from conspiracy theories and nonsense online and debunk ideas like you can't get pregnant standing up or guys will pull out. You tell them it's OK to turn down sex if you're not protected.

Here's a scary observation for the dads out there. The village bike rarely gets pregnant, that girl who's legs have never been together in years and squelchs as she walks is always really careful. It's the good moral girls who get knocked up by their boyfriends after being pressurised into doing it.

legal isn't always moral. slavery was once legal. child marriage was once legal. genocide was once legal.

rare is just a matter of subjectivity amongst statistics. abortions are far from rare these days and heavily glorified by pro-abortionists

What does "Rare" even mean? It would be nice if women were happy to become mothers and otherwise practiced safe sex but if they ever just woke up one day and did not want a child then I think they should be able to show up at an abortion clinic and get the service they need.

And here's something else. They say "rare", but then freak out when legal steps are taken to make it actually more rare. I then say "okay, so wait until marriage to have sex." They then respond with "it's x-year. Get with the program, you woman-hating, sex-hating, science-hating, science-denying, regressive doofus!"

Considering human nature I dont think its realistic to stop women from having per-marital sex nor do I think it would resolve the issue of women wanting about as many abortions. If anything I just think it would result in more unhappy marriages because people would want them for the wrong reasons.

Well historically we have had periods with and without premarital sex being both allowed, frowned upon and illegal. As far as I understand it the legality or morality of the act had very little effect on how much people actually did it.

Something that did happen a lot though is very early marriages with young couples. A reasonable motivation for jumping straight to marriage would be to have sex more "officially" without having to hide it. This had a negative effect on the actual quality of the relationships and would lead to an increase in divorces and couples being forced to stay together longer to be able to file a divorce compared to just breaking up then and there.

Some women treat abortion as a form of birth control. Which is sad and unfortunately, all too common.

Women are intensely hypergamous and have been completely free to chase any man with reckless abandon with the advent of the birth control pill, sexual liberation, and internet dating apps. Which have all contributed to the destruction of nuclear families and the fabric of society.

I have no problem with abortion, It's been known to save lives. as long as it's not abused! Like, as a form of birth control. Rather than take/use something to stop her from getting pregnant, she allows herself to get pregnant often because she can always abort.

Comprehensive sex Ed & easy birth control access. That's the proven best way to make abortion rare. It's should be only NEEDED rarely, it should not be only ALLOWED rarely.

Yeap. With good sex education, easy access to birth control and plan b, abortion wouldn't be nearly as necessary. But when it is, it should be safe and legal to get. You shouldn't have to die of sepsis or infection like that one Irish lady did years ago where they waited until the fetus was literally rotting inside her before they could legally remove it, and you shouldn't have to risk years or life in prison for preventing your life being ruined.

Definitely. What will make it rare? Easy access to birth control. But the anti-abortion zealots also don't like birth control. What they really want is control over the sex lives of young women.

What is your conception and understanding of opposition to birth control?

It's all bullshit based on the fact that some methods prevent implantation of a fertilized egg coupled with a religious belief that ensoulment happens at conception. But that's just a rationalization for the persecution of young women.

Young women can make decisions.. Whether they wanna give their bodies to just anybody or not.. Most laws are meant to protect women from a world that can be cruel and uncaring.. Sometimes it was overzealous, but it was mostly with decent intentions.. Should I mention that if a big war were to happen young men don't really get much of a choice in selective enrollment or what happens to part of their offspring should they wanna keep it.. Frankly it seems a but evil to only make it about women.. Like it's enabling narcissism..
