Are men the more expendable gender?

I am an egalitarian, I believe in true equality between the sexes. I believe both genders should get the same opportunities, I believes both genders should be viewed as equal in the eyes of the law, and I feel of a woman wants to fight for her country she should be allowed to.

Yesterday i got into a debate with someone who for all intents and purposes argued against such an idea claiming that women were too biologically weak, now i'm no fool i know full well the biological differences between men and women. However in his eyes, the gap between men and women were so insurmountable that women shouldn't even bother trying. He would then throw arm grip studies and basically his argument was Testosterone=Strength, Estrogen=Weakness. Both genders should just stick to their proper roles

See here's my issue with this, if what he is saying is true then yes, men are biologically superior to women in terms of strength and combat ability. But it's also a double edged sword. It also means that men are more disposable then women and capable of being replaced due to the fact that women can give birth and men cannot. If this is true then men are expected to fight and if need be die to ensure a woman's safety, it would normalize the mentality that a woman is free to leave a man to die in order to save herself, because that's what he's suppose to do.

If my asking around was suppose to make me accept that men and women can never be true equals it failed, in reality all it's done is make me more pro-gun. So here's the long and short of it, if what these people say is true and biology truly cannot be overcome.

Army infantry, there are physical requirements. Requirements that are near impossible for a woman to meet physically and mentally. (Women are not stupid, not what I'm saying.) Women have met the standards before, however. Unfortunately, they are only able to hold to combat shape for a few years, and it does irreparable damage to their bodies as a result. Women require a higher fat percentage on their bodies to be healthy. Fat however prevents combat. So when your choices are brief service, followed by permanent damage, and living a healthy happy life, I can certainly see why someone would argue as he did. And men, expendable? Please. That's the second most nonsensical thing I've heard all day.

It depends on the situation but some biological facts can't be ignored, expecting a girl to go 1 on 1 with a man in basically anything physical is going to mean men win 90% of the time. I don't agree with women being negotiated first as hostages and that kind of thing because that's a clear example of them being seen as more worthy, but men need to defend women against other men in some situations.

I value men more than I do women... I think it’s a little biased if you ask me. Men and women each have their own biological role to play. Men are protectors due to their strength, drive, and ingenuity (traits fostered by high testosterone) and women are caregivers due to their compassion and motherly instincts. This is just biological fact. Because of this, men and women will always, on average, seek different professions and have different goals in life. Men are more object oriented and want things as a sign of success, while women are people oriented and want social connections as a sign of success. These again are just facts. I believe in equality of opportunity for all people, so if a woman wants to be a soldier she can, so long as she can pass the fitness exam and keep up with the male soldiers.

Encouraging them to act masculine encourages them to become just as inauthentic as they would become by encouraging them to act heterosexual. In both cases it doesn't change their innate nature, it encourages them to live out of sync with it, and lead inauthentic lives that don't align with who they truly are.

And there can be no worse fate on earth than to approach the end of your life realizing you were never true to yourself, that you hid from who you really are, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

We should be true to our nature yes that doesn't mean we should be slaves to it. I think it's important to find balance between who you are and what you want to be.

I agree with what your last paragraph, which also aligns with Aristotle's view that "virtue lies in a life of self-actualization. ... Human Beings strive to live long, flourish, and be all they can be."

What's sick in today's world is that victimhood culture and collective identity politics are extolled as virtuous, leading few to take personal responsibility over their own self-actualization and instead blame others.
