Why isn't bullying illegal? Or at least punishable?

Because emotional damage is hard to prove and often puts victims in a state where they are too afraid to do anything about it. They often say, if you crush their heart well enough, they won't be able to respond appropriately.
Well depends on the level of the emotional damage. And still, that's not a reason to not take actions to stop it. Teaches are useless they don't really do anything about it.
And it's not always an emotional damage. And besides, words get around quickly at school students would know who's being bullied.
Well Teachers have a problem where if they do 'anything' to kids, they suffer some pretty dire consequences. They have to consider if its worth risking their whole career for just one kid that maybe bullied. If they play their cards wrong, they'll lose their career. Bullies bully, because they know they won't be held accountable. Teachers and parents won't do anything and turn a blind eye, other kids are usually too scared to help the victim. I mean, if there were solutions, it would've been implemented by now. But every case has their own unique circumstances and implementing a sweeping and generalising law may end up being far more damaging and rectifiable in the end. Also, victims may go against 'help' for various reasons. Probably the biggest one being blackmail and no kid would want to let a secret out to the public, it's terrifying and many of them won't risk it.
Rules or laws that prevents teachers to punish a student (in fear of the student getting hurt somehow) who's hurting another, should be altered. What's the point of it if it's not helping those who needs it.
I agree that bullying should be punishable. But if you made it a crime, then 90% of people would be arrested or whatever. There's so much of it that it's probably impossible to monitor accurately.
Yes and after they get arrested or punished for the first time, would they do it again? Or think twice before acting out?
Maybe this could make life less than hell for some people?
Truthfully unless they start punching you (which is assault) then what's the problem? They could be dicks but you could just ignore them and go on and hang out with your actual friends. There shouldn't be a problem that way.
I got beat up, usually by a whole group of kids, every single day at school. And I never had a single friend. The people I was "friends" with would also bully me, just not physically most the time, but they would make fun of me and take advantage of me and set me up, but I would still hang out with them because they were better than the alternative.
All the teachers knew, my mom complained to the Principal several times, but it was always a case of , "oh yeah, okay, we'll talk to the bullies." and then nothing would change, and they'd say, "well, what can you expect? Boys will be boys!"
See, nowadays the definition of bullying has changed to include everything, even just teasing. Back in my day, teasing was one thing, bullying was another. Bullying was always physical, and not just threats, either.
So I spent every day getting beat up and stomped, I would come home sometimes with teeth knocked out, once with a broken collarbone, once a ruptured eardrum, and yet if I tell people I was bullied as a kid, they think, "oh so what, somebody made fun of you? Big deal."
@Bananaman177 who's fault is that though? I got bullied real bad and you know what I did I took my gym like and beat the fuck out of someone with it they never messed with me again and nobody ever did again you cannot say make laws because you did nothing about what happened to you. Make laws arrest kids then the kid who is bullied never learns how to be a man.
If they beat you up, you should have pressed charges.
@HamNCheese it doesn't work like that the school protects students a lot of the times from getting cops involved there is only one way and that is stand up for yourself be a man and show them you will not let it happen
See I want to be a lawyer when I grow up and that's part of the reason why haha. You can press charges you just didn't feel like doing that and maybe learning to fight helps as well.
Well not you but then.
Awh thanks. ^^
@PcSucks As soon as I got good at fighting, nobody would beat me up anymore, but I was still socially ostracized. School was Hell for me, and whenever I got good enough to beat them at their own game, then the game would change.
@PcSucks I fucking did, you don't see me being victimized by low-IQ savages anymore.
It's hard though when you're legally required to attend public school, to make the choices and decisions that will keep you from being victimized when the law only exists to keep you exposed to people like that for a minimum number of hours per day.
@PcSucks Yeah, I always got in trouble for fighting back, usually I got in a lot more trouble for defending than anybody else ever did for attacking me.
No good deed goes unpunished.
It depends on the type of bullying because we do have to remember they are kids. And you don’t funny mature until the age of 25 so just imagine what stage they are in

lol because it impossible to enforce. Bullying is a rite of passage. It isn't going to kill you. It's funny i have a lady friend who goes off the handle on facebook because her son gets bullied. And it gives me a little laugh everytime she does because i tell her to teach him to defend himself. It won't completely eliminate the bullying but it will lessen it. Bullies bully because they see an easy target. Somebody they can dominate.
Because if they lock up every bully in school then what does the bullied kid become? I was bullied and it made me tough and I actually bullied the bullies and made one change school kids need to be bullied or else all you get left with is a weak adult who everybody pushes around.
Depending on some things like if they aren't hurting you physically but say bunch of racist shit I guess it becomes like a hate crime or some shit (Atleast in my country) and if they are under 15 they cannot legally be punished as an adult would be so special rules apply. The Social Services can take the child away from their parents tho and/or make them change school and stuff
how do you punish minor? let's say you have proof that a 13 year old is a mental and physical monster to others.. Bullying his comrades on a daily basis : what do you do to this 13 year old kid?
Correctional home? yeah.. think that will make things better?
No it shouldn't be punishable but those bullies just needs to be dropped out and teachers should be stricter about it because it is their job to stand up for them and teach them what's right so it is also the teacher's fault. Also, if that were punishable by law, there would be kids pulling the victim card, framing others and falsely accuse them because you know, they're kids..
Instead of blaming the kids directly, the school should be blamed too. They're kids and they know nothing. And yeah they grow up to be teens and never taught bullying is wrong.
People who never been bullied will say that bullying is punished,
But you go to principe office and get lecture or getting suspended doesn't affect you, you will come next day and do the same shit again
Yeah, that's why a severe punishment should be taken into action. To stop them from even considering hurting anyone. There should be laws to prevent people from hurting other people. Just like if you kill someone, you'll get the electric chair. Bullying causes some people to kill themselves! Isn't that enough to do something about it?
They should be laws, but people think they are just kids/teenagers they are just kidding that is all just for fun and they dont do anything about that
Oh I don't think they're that stupid, many of them went through it themselves if not known someone who have, and knew what it's like.
Some of them yes
I dont know, i just hope one day there will be a law for this
Well, I don't think it's happening anytime soon; not on Trump's watch.
On trump's watch, there will be more bullying
Unfortunately.
It should be illegall as it gives people mental health problems you can report it to the police they will take action
Because there's a thing called freedom of speech,
But I agree with you that schools should have more severe punishments for physical bullying.
Yeah, freedom of speech. When it gets abusive it's considered an assault. Your 'freedom of speech' causes some to commit suicide. Would you want that to someone you care about. A younger sister perhaps?
Words can kill sometimes.
I think schools should punish bullies harshly but unless it's physical abuse it shouldn't be criminal.
But it is punishable.
I blame the parents. If someone becomes a bully it's the parents fault.
It’s hard to dilleniate what’s bullying versus banter.
I think it gets to a point where you can definitely tell if it's bullying or 'banter'. I wouldn't consider the words "GO KILL YOURSELF!" a banter.
Me and my friends regularly tell each other to kill ourselves.
Yeah, probably while drinking beer and laughing about it afterwards. Not while getting beat up and yelled at.
Its illegal in finland and punishable Too.
In work or school. But what country you mean?
It is punishable, There is literally no school in existence that sanctions bullying not one. Additionally literally every school in existence has rules against it.. You really need to do some research.
Yeah and it still exists. Because teaches don't really do anything about it really. And if there were severe punishments, those bullies would think twice before hurting anyone.
Lol how bout we teach our kids to stand up for them selves.. instead of whining.. I was bullied as a child, a lot, I stood up for my self, made them think twice about doing it further.. this is what we call the pussification of our youth.
typical liberal idiocy.. People do bad things please government step in and do something, no i shouldn't have to teach my child to defend them selves no the government should do that for me.. Incredibly stupid.
keep the downvotes coming, you only prove me right
Because only leftist, NPC, jack-offs like you want to live in a Soviet-Style, nanny-state.
Interesting.
So you'll be okay if you had an 8 year old brother or sister (or the younger version of yourself because clearly you only care about yourself) beaten up, coming back from school with a bruised up face and the words "kill your self" written on their shirt by the bullies? You'll be okay with that?
I don't need the government to fight my battles for me.
What a response!
A small 8 year old kid would be able to fight a bunch of bullies? 1 vs let's say 4?
How fair.
And if it were your little brother would you want him to through this?
If a member of my family is being "bullied", I do not need the government to act as arbitrator. We handle our own problems.
Well there are many kids who don't have a hero like you to 'rescue' them.
They don't have parents, siblings, and friends?
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have someone who cares enough to help them out in such a situation.
What are teachers and principals for?
Teaching.
They don't really do much about bullying, in case you didn't notice that's why it still exists!
So we need Congress to pass laws CRIMINALIZING the very vague, subjective and open-to-interpretation concept of "bullying", rather than depending on family and friends for support and teaching school-personnel how to mitigate student disputes? Is that your final answer?
@PcSucks
Exactly. Thank you.
The "very vague, subjective and open-to-interpretaion concept of 'bullying'" ? well that's rich! Broken ribs, head concussions or a bruised up face wouldn't clearly be enough to fall into the concept of bullying, really? And dude, again not everyone has someone to help theme!
What you just described is called "Aggravated Assault", and it's a felony... Try again.
My previous comment was directed at the Pink Anon.
@PcSucks
Yeah, it's assault and a felony, but I only mentioned that in the context of this debate. I'm not opposed to physical violence.
It is punishable they just don’t do enough about it
Answer mine please
I guess the problem lies in the threshold for what’s acceptable or not lol
It's too hard to prove.
Too hard to prove?
Living in a time where smartphones exists, where you can take videos or even voice record the bullying (the sounds of kicking and abusive insults) makes it easier to prove. Not to mention eye witness.
Kicking? Then call the cops. They'll throw her in jail. I hate bullies, but abusive insults aren't going to hold up in court. Some guy was sexually harassing my niece. Her brother and some friends paid him a visit. It will never happen again.
I didn't say abusive insults should lead to a court session. Physical abuse, yes maybe. But surly the school can handle dealing with serious abusive insults though.
I'm confused. You talked about it being illegal and punishable. That's going to involve the courts. And the physical abuse is already punishable.
Much of it is.
It happens even in adulthood.
The world is a fucked up place.
Why should it be beat they ass and move on
Yes. Leave the po po out of this, and handle it in-house.
