Do you think bullying in schools should be banned?

Bullying is supposed to be banned. Teachers and administrators often turn a blind eye to this and the kid that is bullied often is alone in his struggle. Parents cannot do anything to help and often make it worse.
I worked in a K-12 district and I heard that a kid was being bullied and finally he went to the cops and filed a complaint against the kid that beat him up. He wanted the kid to be charged with assault which is what it was. The cops went to the school and picked up the kid and the kid's parents had to get a lawyer and take time off from work an go to court and settle it.
I suspect the problem was solved after that.

Depends on the type of bullying. Physical bullying should be banned in my opinion. Mental/emotional bullying should be encouraged in my opinion. It can help to build thinker skin for kids and can also prepare them for real world situations. I am not saying to encourage mental/emotional bullying, but rather not ban it. I feel the same way with cyberbullying as it can teach kids to just ignore the internet and to stay away from social media when possible. As far as I know, bullying is already banned in school though.

Lot's of things should be banned but it won't stop it, especially with on line bullying. Banning bullying would work as well as baptizing a cat.

You can't ban bullying. It's a part of life. You manage it, learn how to deal with it, and the authorities must intervene sometimes.

As someone who was bullied looking back, I think there needs to be a balance to it.

I stood up from myself and it was one of the best things I feel I could have done for my self esteem. I still feel extremely proud about it.

I think where bullying goes too far is when you have real violent threats by gangs and things like that. If it's just a first fight, then kids should be a me to sort it out.

I agree. There needs to be "light" bullying and it needs to be reserved for assholes and people who get too cocky and arrogant for their own good. I think violent/physical bullying, or the kind that makes kids develop mental issues is going too far. But I'm 34 and bullying was severely outlawed and had zero tolerance when I was in school because of Columbine (the first school shooting in America in 1999).

I went to an all boys Catholic school, and the one thing they did right was have this balance I think and let boys be boys.

I would have still preferred co-ed tho, they seem to have had more fun over there...

It kinda already is, and no. An entire generation has gone without bullying, only to grow up and BECOME the bullies themselves, despite being giant pussies and cowards. They're called Millennials and thrive on Twitter, Reddit, and other social media. A lack of school bullying created them. I don't think bullying is good, but it does keep the social ecosystem balanced. We wouldn't have Clown World like we do today if Twitter soyboys and feminists were told by everyone else to shut the f' up.

Absolutely not, there shouldn't even be 0 tolerance policies. Bullying is a means of enforcing adherence to social norms it isn't normally to simply do damage like most people like to believe. There are two ways out of bullying, either conform or be willing to fight for your right to be a freak. Either way you'll be treated better.

I’m pretty sure it already has been, but like any other law or ban it’s only as strong as the enforcement thereof. Murder has been banned since the Ten Commandments got etched in stone, yet it continues to this day.

No I was bullied in school. How I got them to leave me alone. I started fighting back and got good at fighting. They got tired of fighting me and soon left me alone. Sometimes you have to fight to be human

It should be treat in the same way as it would be in the workplace. Things like theft of lunch money should be treat as a crime.

Unfortunately just banning it won't stop it. We need to find better ways of helping children, holding bullies accountable and getting them therapy to get out of the habit.

I was under the impression that it is; hell it wasn't allowed when I was in school, and that was a hot minute ago. That said, murder is banned, but that doesn't stop it.

Bullying will never end. Teachers need to stop telling kids to just "tell an adult". We need to teach our kids how to fight.

It has been researched - higher IQ people lean towards cooperation instinctively, lower towards competition (which is bullying)
