Hey, everyone what's your take on the "anti-bullying" campaigns in schools? Do they just stand there or do they punish the wrong person?

Every school talks a lot about how bullying is wrong, but they punish the bullied student for standing up for himself or herself or even fighting back the bully to let them know it's not okay. So, if bullying is so wrong, why don't the schools punish the actual bully?

Shouldn't the continuous cycle end?

They lead to more problems. They often only punish physical stuff and allow people to spread rumors, harass others, and turn friends against each other, then the schools protect the bad people by not allowing them to retaliate physically. Being able to beat someone down that messed over you can actually put an end to most bullying.

The consistent mental and emotional bullying is sometimes what leads to people snapping and either committing suicide or committing a shooting. Ever notice that most of those shooters are fine with dying in the process? That is because they are already so emotionally and mentally damaged that they don't care about life anymore.

I do totally agree! It needs to end however the teachers can only do so much. Bullies do get a lot of discipline and and yet the laws often do not serve an appropriate discipline in my estimation. It is a flawed system just like the rest of the world. The only answer I see is for parents to teach their kids how to stand up for themselves, be polite, kind and generous and then respect authority.

Nothing like defending yourself and you and said bully wind up in the same alternative school where even worse kids are. Hey its like prison! Lets put the stoners in with the Garland Greene's of the world!

It should- but given how often the school itself, or its employees, are the ones DOING the bullying, I wouldn't bet on that happening any time soon.

Schools typically look the other way at bullies. Because the administration are the biggest bullies around.

You said it! There are some teachers who just call your parents just to have something to say about the kid! "He's being a little talkative in my class" or "She is too involved in her studies. I'm worried about her social life at school, and I wish she'd make more friends." Like why should it matter if the child is involved in class or stay to themselves?
