LGBTQ History Being Taught In Schools. Is That A Good Thing Or Bad Thing?

A bad thing, if you insist to teach it to children teach it in high school where students are mature enough to form their own opinion about it and decide if they support the LGBT or not. Other than that it's propaganda and brainwashing children who still can't form their own opinion
There is no such thing as brainwashing with the "gay agenda" or the "trans agenda" because you literally cannot convert someone's sexuality/gender. Via any method. Not with speech, not with hypnosis (which isn't even a real thing but I'm throwing it in my list for fun), not with surgery (I'm talking changing someone mentally, not physically here).
If teaching the subject is in any way bad, it's only bad in that it's a waste of time. But I don't think it's bad because it's teaching people about other people, helping connect people so that they understand each other. The easiest way to respect someone is to understand them.
Parents and teachers, tasked with the responsibility of raising children, definitely should be putting in effort for a child to grow up being a respectful person.
There is literally no benefit to being a hateful bigot that hates LGBT people and/or the "LGBT agenda" (which, again, doesn't exist). I get it, you're not gay. Great, so is like 80% of the rest of the population. You can respect other people without having gay sex with them. Or at least you should be able to manage that.
if they include it with the rest of history that's fine, but it seems weird if they want to make an entire class on it
I agree
But is it an entire class or is implemented on sexual education? I'm not from the US, does someone knows?
It would cause everyone to walk out of class all gay & shit! Kids would be turning gay by the minute and then we'll be surrounded by gay people every fucking where!!!
🤣🤣🤣
If it will be taught in schools, we would have less problems in the society because it will see like the normal thing that it is

I think middle school pupils (Ca. 14 - 15 years old) and high schoolers (Ca. 16 - 18 years old) are mature enough to learn about what sexuality means and which ones that exists. You can't form an opinion as easily if you don't get to learn about different things. The school is supposed to teach about both heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality in a neutral way. Same applies to LGB-history and rights. Then it's up to each one to form their own opinion based on what the school has informed them about. School should be honest about both politics, religion and sexuality. In a democracy it's important to be informed.
I think teaching teenagers and children that there exists tomboys and feminine boys are okay too. In a modern society it's important to know not everyone are gender conforming. Some boys likes the color pink and wearing dresses, but still be boys and some girls may like the color blue and cars as girls. The transsexual thing is too complicated for young people to understand from my experience, so I think that topic could be brought up when they're almost adults. Perhaps around 17 - 19 years old.
That's not something that should be taught in school. At that age, they don't need to know the history of SJWs.
LGBTQ... the Q stands for questioning. Now why would you so eagerly want to teach this to children at such a young age some even preK? Now these kids are questioning which one they are. But guess what, straight or heterosexual isn't in there! Why not throw an S in there and let kids know it's okay to be the gender your born and be straight? No they seem to like confusion and division. Has anyone seen the new 24 step math process for simple equations they are teaching now? We've got much bigger problems in this country than figuring out which gender you identify with and what your sexual orientation is. Where are the anti racism lessons? Manhood and womanhood lessons? Business solutions? Teach the kids how they can open a certificate of deposit or kids saving account and let their money accumulate for years while in school. People will be people whether LGBTQ or S! But they know they can influence the mind of a child easier to participate and experiment with these beliefs they have. Teaching this in high school would be too late as most would already have decided if they are LGBTQ or S on their own which is how it should be, hence rendering this "teaching" useless. But no the agenda is to start turning these kids out early because the next letter they will add will be P for pedophiles. After all... "science" explains how its natural for grown men and women to be sexually attracted to little boys and girls.
History does not just belong to one country, one race, one religion, one culture, or one sexual orientation. History belongs to us all. One cannot change what has actually already happened and so to teach it, is to inform one about the world around them. There are a lot of aspects of history that a lot of people would prefer were not taught in schools now, and yet they are, and so this idea that one should just cherry pick what parts of history suit you, is not really in league with what teaching the history of the world is all about.
I don't care what subjects are being taught in public schools, as long as their presentation adheres strictly to what is objectively true.
For instance, it would be appropriate for a public school teacher to state "Gay marriage was effectively federally legalized by the Supreme Court's decision on the case Obergefell v. Hodges, on June 26, 2015." However, it would not be appropriate for said teacher to state "You are immoral if you don't support legal gay marriage." (however much I personally agree with that statement).
Then again, this is coming from someone who fundamentally doesn't believe public school should exist in the first place. If all schools were private, they would all be operating on a 100% voluntary basis, so there would be no need to argue about what should and shouldn't be taught, because if you personally disagreed, you could simply take your money to another school.
Eww I don’t like you I thought I blocked you already
It's bad along with this hole trans and gender fluid thing. To teach this allows for influence. If someone want to know then teach or offer council and advise. But it shouldn't be a forced taught it's nothing more than educational rape of a young persons minds and emotions.
It's wrong for the LGBTQ community to force this belief in the educational system. Children are easily molded and manipulated. It should only be taught in highschool or after highschool such as collage or University. Some schools are teaching it in kindagaren and pre School.
So since the LGBTQ community wants this in school let's ad some straight education to the class too.
These gender fluid ( gender confused ) LGBTQ should only be taught as a elective class and only with a parent's written permission and subject to a meeting with the parent student and teacher before the class starts
Well it's against my religion, so I strongly disagree with anything other than the idea of "straight." I would not want to promote, it let alone teach the idea to kids. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but bring them on. This is my opinion so no one can say my opinion is wrong because I have never claimed my opinions to be true. You claim your truths just as I claim mine.🙂
You don't think sexuality should be taught in schools, yet many schools in various countries teach Sex Ed. Why would one be OK but not the other?
Sex Ed, though I personally think is lacking in finer details, is very important for kids to learn about their bodies and what they are going through. Not teaching them isn't going to stop anybody from having sex and at least they could do things safely and make informed decisions that may help them greatly in the long run of their lives.
The same goes for LGBTQ whatever it is these days. Knowing more helps those struggling with their sexuality and it also helps others with tolerance and understanding, even if they don't agree or it doesn't relate to them directly.
These things exist and won't go away by not talking about them. Knowledge is power.
No, if I had a kid and teachers were teaching it LGBTQ without my permission, them teachers better run for their life cause I am coming after to turn it into an action movie. Mmm.. with permission? they better f* off. It is none of their job to teach my kid about useless stuff such as LGBTQ history which does not even exist. They better educate my kid about world history, and human anatomy and sexuality.
@JenSCDC No. Online is the same as in real life. I am usually good and kind to people. I am honest person which people perceive it as rudeness (Oh, well..). But I rarely get angry. There are just a few things that make me go off and one of them is people messing up with my life, and they indoctrinating.
It makes sense to teach them the general rule and have them understand that there are exceptions, but there is no reason to waste their time on dwelling on every exception. No discipline does that, so why would sex education do it? Not to mention that there's those people that would go to take jobs at schools just to indoctrinate the kids on their ideals. Even sex ed without all this was quite problematic, as they wouldn't hire usually men, and the most knowledge comes from the perspective of women, most of them not knowing that much about men. I believe the sex ed is screwed up enough already to add more stuff to it. I don't see how the knowledge about the history of LGBQT would specifically help you in life over some useful economics which are plenty ignored.
Its something that should never be taught to children.
Why must this garbage be forced down our throats. Children need a safe clean enviroment not learning about sexual orientation. What a travesty this is becoming. Just like gender speech non of its relivent at this age. Kids need to be children not sone sick puppet or game that you can play with.
Now I know many will hate my choice I get it. Stop perverting children. Stop teaching the abnormal is correct. Stop making it a hate crime when someone doesn't agree with your ideology. Stop making children believe in the mentally ill ideas or dellusional thoughts.
Teaching the history of lgbtq is no different than teaching things like the history of women’s rights or segregation.
The history of all of these things marks the progress that has been made for certain groups and teaches what things were like before any progress was made.
We’ve gone from gays being stoned to death in public to gays being legally allowed to marry.
It’s wrong to pick and choose which aspects of history to teach.
Imagine if schools never taught us about slavery or the holocaust just because people didn’t like those topics.
Schools aren't even teaching regular history correctly. Exactly what history on this would be there to teach anyway? I personally don't feel like this was something that was NEEDED.
I dont necessarily believe that it should be thaught in history class... in my country there is a special class for mental health. That also includes puberty with changes, sexuality topics, how to have sex, protection information and such stuff. We call it "inimeseõpetus" which roughly translates to human studies. It's a very good subject to learn as you know about stuff like periods early on. You also learn to solve problems and arguments. Which is again very useful. I dont know if America has it but i think every country needs it.
Lol it's dumb af in my opinion there's much more important things too teach. And the level of acceptance for it has gotten out of hand girls sports are gonna be ruined in school and it's really sad. I don't think it should be taught to specifically be taught to accept them either it should be taught to accept every one. It's not even, a subject the, matters to almost anyone so it shouldn't be taught in school
The thing is, if you teach it in school, everyone gets to hear the same message but, if you leave it to individual parents, some will teach one thing, others will teach something else and you'll STILL get their hatred perpetuated.
Yeah, but the more you teach against it, the less it will be likely to thrive.
I think that's it's a good thing. And the important things would the the legal cases which resulted in gay marriage being legalized. As well as information about how slowly the stigma against LGBTQ+ people has lessened. Also, information about how the language around gender has evolved. The use of the singular they, for example, is now accepted in the dictionary. There will eventually come a time when children don't know that it ever wasn't that way.
It don't think it necessarily needs to be taught separately but incorporated in by mentioning if a historical figure wasn't straight and how that affected his or her life. I do think that the history of persecution should be covered like the laws against "gay sexual acts" acts could put people in prison or when gay bars used to be raided by police or even when people were killed in hate crimes. If people know the persecution they might understand the LGBTQ community more.
It is okay. It is good to teach about LGBT. It is knowledge that everyone should know. I actually i wish i had been taught about it, but thats impossible in my country. Everyone should be given a complete understanding that there are many sexual orientations.
I think the existence of heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality along with being transgender should be introduced to teens at around their freshmen year (14-15 years old) or maybe in their final year of middle school (13-14 tears old). That's usually the time when they explore more about themselves with the big question of "Who Am I?". The concepts should be taught in a neutral manner and should bring forth to students understanding and respect each other's differences.
It's a good thing. It's important to show to children that LGBTQ+ people exist and that they're part of society. Also, that they've always existed.
Children are the future of the world and by learning their History, they might turn out to be more tolerant and respectful than some adults.
Well done! 👏👏👏👏👏
I mean, I'd have to know what the curriculum is to determine whether or not it is a good thing. But overall I'd say history is history - does it matter what they teach as long as they teach something? The point of learning history is to avoid repeating the bad parts. But people learned all about how terrible Nazis were, and we still have them crawling around, so what's the point, really?
I think to understand a minority it helps to know the history say how would you get your head around racial politics today if you were parachuted in with no knowledge of slavery, segregation/civil rights movement.
To the sexuality part maybe within an age constraint, under 12 talk about the different groups in our society, over 12 sexuality needs to be addressed there may be a teen in the class who is confused about what sexuality they are and they need to be comforted.
For elementary/ middle school NOO!! They're still developing and figuring themselves out they don't need too "learn" about this at that age they should just focus on making friends & dealing with what their age needs (i'm a middle school tutor & i don't think it's necessary at their age)
As in psychology for mental illness then yes
Since homosexuality is a mental illness
Why do you think so?
It's not natural kind of similar to pedophilia and necrophilia
But unlike most hate groups I see homosexuals as people with mental illness
And like every person with mental illness , they need help
I mean, how long does it take to teach LGBTQ history in school? Like, an hour or two? Why wouldn't we do that?
You’re gay correct?
Not even a little bit. Okay, maybe a teeny-tiny part. I am fabulous, after all.
Uh you already said you were gay from before
I don't recall having said that, and it doesn't sound like something I would say. But if you want to believe that, then sure, I'm gay.
Now, what's that got to do with anything?
Two hours is too damn much first off
To teach kids about the history of a portion of the population they're very likely to encounter several times in their life, if they haven't already?
This doesn't have anything to do with a general dislike of gay people, does it?
Yes that’d be stupid to teach it for 2 hours, it’s stupid to teach it period. If anything people should be able to sign up for that class, it should not be involuntary.
Why do you think it's stupid?
good. its intriguing, its historical, its a big enough chunk of the population (even without the closeted ones), it would also be interesting to see how cultures not just in different times but different countries responded to it. different cultures have names for it, define it in different ways. I've also heard da vinci, malcolm x and anne frank are gay or bi and im sure there r a lot of lgbtq icons and cultures and subcultures, and it will be interesting to see how they impact the mainstream too. i mean the recent met gala theme was Camp ffs. lgbtq deserves at least needs to be taught about if not quizzed.
SJWs always lie. Homosexuals are irrelevant historically because they literally cannot continue their lineage if they aren't bi.
Forced education on others choice of lifestyle is awful, and makes me lose all respect for that group of people.
It's part of history, so it should be taught. That being said, there are much more important topics that should be taught before LGBTQ history. There's really not enough time to teach all we should know about history, that's the problem. I'm ok with this being taught, but I hope it doesn't get pushed above other important topics (I know it will, but one can only hope).
Being gay isn't politics and most kids are now comfortable to come out. There best friends deserve to be educated about them and they deserve to be educated about themselves. It's time. Even if some dont move with it. Gay people aren't going away lol
I wouldn’t say most kids are comfortable to “come out” you don’t know most kids. And people are still judged for it.
Hmm ok
Depends on how much time is spend on it. If its a couple afternoon's talking about people differences in interests, sure. But if it fills up the school roster I'd start to get concerned about the implications of it.
I don't mind if it's taught, but how its taught.
bad thing. they ban religion but for some reason teaching kids about lgbt things is ok? bullshit. i’d move states. thank God i live in Texas
I didn't know that it was being taught in schools. That's awesome. If we can learn about the history of nazis (the most evil people), then why can't we learn about LGBT history? They aren't hurting anybody. It might be just taught in the north though.
History takes about an hour.. after that why bother... stuck up political correctness madness police seem to think we need to encourage sexuality... its a personal thing ffs... why the fuck are we phraising something like this when in reality... nobody gives a toss anymore
it's a good thing, a lot of people nowadays don't even know why Pride exists ;) for those reading this who don't know, look up the Stonewall Riots.
Basically, gays trans and lesbians were tired of getting harassed and brutalized by police forces and so start a riot to say "i'm gay, i'm proud of it and there is nothing wrong with it" and so New York Pride began.
teaching this is school could be a valuable lesson of tolerance and allow youngsters to realize that being different is totally fine
First of we don't care,
second now kids must learn extra shit that won't help them?
Thirdly fuck this it'll only backfire..
I don't get into this lgbt stuff I don't know shy they're trying so hard to force themselves on the world.. Just do you n do it on your own time, we don't care
I think it should. Homosexuals are part of mankind wheather you like it or not. And their history is that of repression and confussion, we could learn a lot about human nature from that. The issue here is HOW is being taught. They are not teaching kids that's its ok to be gay, they are teaching them that is bad or boring to be straight. Instead of teaching them to accept who they are, they are being taught how to accept their new leaders (So to speak).
I mean, as a regular class or subject in place of something more important in history, no. However, if it's like high school sex ed class, then I suppose that would go with the topic. I'm just glad I'm not in school anymore.
Not a bad thing, but i find it unnecessary tbh lol.
No because of many reasons such as, not really having that many important things to make a subject of it, it would be waste of manpower, money and time because as the lack of content, schools would be better to put all this effort in devoloping the kids minds and how to go on in life etc
Teaching the history of bigotry is a good way to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Knowing that, you can decide what you want about the people who think it's a bad idea.
I personally think that people shouldn't decide on these things so early, as many people claim they be LGBTQ during school n just stop. No teenager nowerdays is mature in the slightest, especially not enough for this kind of choice
They want to spread this epidemic disease through our new generation.
Its not sex being taught it's classes on how people were and still are being discriminated agenst for something thats different than what most deem as sick or amoral but proplem is back then everything is blurred between what was gay history and what is transgender history because the group's were all lumped together
If we can teach Black history in school why not LGBTQ history?
Not as important
Which isn't Black history or LGBTQ history? Both parties have had the shit end of the stick in the past. The point of it is to make sure it doesn't happen again, and that we don't repeat past mistakes like "Separate but Equal" We have morons trying to tell Transgender girls that they have to use the bathroom of their birth gender. Yeah that's a good Idea let's send a "Boy" wearing a dress and high heels into the men's room. Who are you going to blame when they get physically or sexually attacked? Should we have 4 sets of bathrooms? Male, Female, MTF Trans,, and FTM trans?
From what you said what do you think? Why are you acting slow?
I think it should be taught in schools. As far as I'm concerned it is a good thing.
Let the kids being kids and stop the political agenda indoctrination
It depends on what's taught about it. If it's taught as a means of tolerance, okay, but if its taught as a means of hatred or belittling, NOT okay!
It is a good thing it should be a class that is offered like an elective. It would help students who identify as LGBT understand and be more comfortable with theirselves.
I’d recommend that class if the student is gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc.
You can also take Gay alliance classes in highschool if you’re straight and want to know their issues of being who they are in our society.
Never heard of gay alliance classes
God Made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
Seriously schools need to stay out of the bedroom.
Lmao my preacher says this every Sunday
It's an awesome thing!
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are so overrated. I was just looking on "Indeed" and there are a ton of jobs for LGBTQ Historians.
It's a good thing to accept it and learn it. It's a bad thing to try force it in everyone's home and promote it in every possible way.
Bad thing. Sorry but there are other things we should be teaching and we need to find actual ways to improve the education system. That is just another SJW propaganda. Why should we teach young kids this?
I think that all aspects of history are important so... Yeah, it's important, in my eyes anyway but then again, I was a history student.
Sexual education at schools is very very important.
Not sure if teaching the story of lgbt is that relevant, iy might be, but I'm against teaching them to children because is the wrong time to teach them that.
Its taught as prophaganda, so I am against it.
Its important to show a full, balanced understanding, and you won't get that in this course
As someone who works in the British educational system I can assure you the lessons are no more provocative than the history of our kings, the civil rights movement or the battle of 1066.
It's a little too... targeted, I guess? Like LGBTQ history is wrapped into a ton of different things, but making it center point of a single lecture is to miss the forest among the trees.
It's there truth. Kids can handle the truth. Some of their parents can't.
No it's just educational brainwashing. To push a belief or agenda. This hole trans gender , gender confused is just crap.
If you are born with a penis your a male if you're born with a vagina you're female
Other genders are just people playing Dr. Frankenstein and that's just messed up.
Both the Bible and evalotion teach that there is only male and female. Science and Dr's trying to change someone's sex using drugs , hormones and operations is wrong and gross
@Chadnelson1973 RESPECT.
Not as its own separate subject, becausr it's honestly not that long. Just vague references or sub topics under regular History.
@sissyDj Firstly, I don't understand what you're trying to say in the first comment because of the grammar or possible missing punctuation. Come again?
Secondly, I'm not talking about the duration of its existence, man😂😂 I'm talking about what you can possibly teach is a term/semester/year length subject of its own. You can't without stretching it out awfully and pointlessly. It should be taught under history and also under sex education.
Wait, you're saying the very advancement of humanity was done by gays? In other words implying no straight person has contributed to the advancement of humanity? That's a stretch, to put it kindly.
I am bisexual so you can relax. LGBT+ history isn't as extensive in content, I'm not trying to limit it, I'm saying stretching it out is doing is no justice, it's wasting valuable time. You're acting like I'm a straight person that's trying to hinder LGBT+ community, but maybe if you climbed off my back, you'd see I'm not trying to do what you're so passive-aggressively pretending that I am. As a future teacher, I know how hard it is to combine so many important lessons into such short lessons, and LGBT+ history can easily be put under sex-ed and history, also giving room for other important information not related to sexuality. Creating a syllabus with accurate planning and timing with APPROPRIATE duration of content is important. You have to space and balance EVERYTHIIING out, not just LGBT+ history.
