Every year, the government tells us to get the flu vaccine.
In the spring, people at CDC and the vaccine manufacturers meet and try to anticipate what strains of the flu will be most problematic in the coming flu season. They then produce a vaccine designed to protect against the one or two strains that they identified.
1. The vaccine does not protect you again the other 16 to 20 strains of flu which also get passed around. That almost never gets mentioned when we are being told to get vaccinated.
2. The vaccine is only partially effective against the strains it is intended to protect against. Mid-season estimates for the 2018-2019 flu season estimated effectiveness at only 47% and the final assessment for the 2017-2018 flu season was 36% effectiveness. When the CDC is recommending that we all get vaccinated, they don't mention those statistics, do they?
3. A mercury-based preservative called thimerosal is used in some multidose vials of the flu vaccine. It’s used to prevent bacteria and other germs from growing. You don't hear much discussion of that, do you?
4. There are common side effects which are relatively mild but less frequent occasional side effects: hives, swelling, trouble breathing, rapid heart rate, dizziness, weakness, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. One more thing we don't hear discussed.
Obviously, our government wants us to be good little sheep and get vaccinated but they don't present the information so that we can make a truly informed decision. They just present the information with an apparent message that "only an idiot would refuse to get vaccinated."
If this is how they handle information regarding the flu vaccine, I will assume that they have a similar attitude with respect to other vaccines. It is difficult to adequately assess the need to get a vaccination when we can't trust the government to provide us all of the information necessary. . . and our government also has a history of suppressing public health information in the past.
So. . . anti-vaxers may ultimately be making the wrong decision, but I would NEVER consider those people to be idiots for distrusting the government.
I wanted to reply to this topic, but then saw your comment. Yes. There is a reason why people distrust the government and big companies - especially big pharma. Just because vaccines at it's core are generally a good thing doesn't mean every vaccine we are getting pushed at us must be good.
I don't have kids but there's personal and religious beliefs. There's never been a study to show the safety of vaccines , or pills or other medical procedure.
The belief of big pharma is were going to make you sick so you don't get sick.
Also read the ingredients in imuzations and flu shots
For example the allowable amounts of the following ingredients are about 200 to 500 parts per million that's ppm
Of lead , Mercury , aluminum , fermeldahyde animal DNA and aborted fetal DNA
In shots flu shots 8mmusations it's 500 to 900 parts per billion that's ppb
So weather you are for or against educate yourself. Get the incerts , that have the ingredients , side affects and precautions. Now politicians have exemptions for their kids and families as well as the heads of big pharma they don't get their kids vaccinated ! Why because they know what you don't about vaccines , shots , pills and other medical procedure.
It wasn't big pharma that eliminated diseases
It was plumbing , better sewers and propped nutrition.
How many states leaders such as governor's , Congress , house of Representatives have exemptions for their kids and families?
So why are they exempt and you and your family are not?
How many of you know insperation of raggedy Ann and Andy? The author Johnny gruel
Johnny Gruelle wrote the book around 1914-1917 it was written as a warning his eight year old daughter received vaccines at school without his permission she got sick from the vaccines and spent a week in pain and died as a direct result of the vaccines.
Today as then vaccines were not tested for their safety.
Doctors , drug companies presidents , members of Congress , house of Representatives , presidents and vice President have vaccine exemptions for their kids and families.
Raggedy Ann and Andy were the start of the anti vaccine movement
How many recalls have there been in the last 7 years? There's always something being recalled from implants to a pill because the manufacturer failed to disclose something dangerous about the product. Right now hip and knee implants are being recalled. A few years ago there was a pill called risperdal it's a ADHD pill that caused young boys to develop female breast ! That was recalled because the manufacturer didn't make this aware to doctors or to patients they hid that part of clinical trials.
I think it’s sad and very very stupid that people are on this anti-vaccine movement. Two of my babies have had very mild reactions to a few vaccines and they were getting 4 vaccines each per dr visit, but nothing life threatening. Just a low grade fever for a day. That’s it. I gave them Tylenol to help with the side effects but only had to administer one dose. They don’t get flue shots though and I have followed the vaccine guidelines religiously because I did fear the outcome. Now my two older boys are 14 and 10 years old and they rarely get sick. My other two babies are two and one years old and I only allow them to get two vaccines each per dr visit and they have had no side effects whatsoever. They have very good health. I feel sorry for the parents who’s child can’t get vaccinated due to whatever health reasons even though the parents want to. It is always better to try and save your child and other children through vaccines, they are life saving. I suggest all the anti vaccinators do their research properly before they decide to never vaccinate their kids. I went a whole year not vaccinating my two year old during his first year of life because of the fear mongering. I was thinking did I miss something? What’s going on? Because society never used to be like this before about vaccines. So, I did my research and everything the whole entire year and I felt worse not vaccinating my child than if I had, so I started to get him vaccinated again and he’s caught up. I swear the person who started this movement is the one who is trying to wipe out half the population. You have a higher risk of your child dying by not vaccinating.
Thanks for MH 😊
It's silly cause most diseases we had back then when I was growing up are pretty much gone or in low numbers. Chicken pocks, measles, the plague really aren't a think anymore thanks to medicine. But at the same time I understand their concern cause we have all this medicine to target one illness that can cause other's due to crazy side effects. It's like hey, we found something to stop those runny eyes of yours but the kicker is you might get runny ass now.. but just keep in touch with your doctor and toilet near by and you'll be fine.
But I'm not anti vac for the most part however that vaccine in the picture is one I can not do. I took it one fall and it was the worst decision in my entire life... couldn't stop throwing up to save my life. I puked at work on the 5th floor, puke outside the car, and puked some more when I got home. I thought the bloody thing was suppose to help me not actually make me feel like I have the flu. But other than that... I got nothing against it really. I do have a friend who is anti vac... she's just been scared straight to avoid I just hope it doesn't come back to bite her in the ass.
Also I went most of my entire life without getting the flu shot and then when i got it i got sick... just really funny.
That happened to me too. I told my mom and she said "what if the flu shot just kept you from getting even sicker from the flu."
@SanicYouth Sick is sick and when I'm sick I feel down right terrible so there's no difference for me when i took it.

I'm disagree with them, but understands where they're coming from and their arguments. In some of the vaccines they may use questionable things like cells from aborted babies and not everyone are into thinking of morbid stuffs like that. Especially not if you comes from a culture that's all about respecting the death, not allowing organ donation from none-consensual people - especially not these ones killed one purpose etc., so it's no wonder not everyone are equally comfortable with it.
I think it's important people gets vaccinated to avoid horrible diseases. Some diseases that were deadly were way more common in the past because of lack of vaccines and other medical technology. It's good this isn't a big problem anymore and we can expect longer life spans.
Okay, why do you think they would use aborted fetuses? Like do you think they drive around and pick all them up and grind them up into their vaccine just for fun? There is literally no scientific reasoning behind it and no one would do that just for fun so that is a deeply misinformed judgement of vaccines
@Randomawkwardness, sometimes they can use cells from other human beings, manipulate them and make them work effectively to cure some diseases. Not only in vaccines, but also stem cells. I don't think they're doing it for fun, but rather for practical reasons. It still doesn't mean everyone would be okay with it though.
I feel like they are paranoid about the effects of vaccination.
I once almost choked to death while eating food. I did my own research and discovered that I am not alone. Thousands of people choke every year while eating, and hundreds of those people die. That's why I don't feed my kids. It's dangerous. Now plenty of people will point out that food supposedly "prevents starvation," and that might be true, but it's not fair to completely ignore all the dangers food poses, like choking, allergies, gingivitis, and garlic breath. I'm just saying, do your own research and decide what you think is best for your kids. If you choose to give your kids potentially deadly food, that's your problem, but as a parent, I don't think the government has any right to tell me that I need to feed my kids.
Even though this is a troll there's a clear message behind it
People who choose not to vaccinate their kids are so naive! They think that just because no one has had a certain disease for decades, that means the disease is eradicated. The only reason the disease is (was) eradicated was because people were vaccinated! I also think it's incredibly selfish to NOT vaccinate your kids. For one thing, kids are not capable of understanding the risks of not being vaccinated, and yet they are the ones who will suffer the consequences. And secondly, some people cannot be vaccinated, for example, very young infants. My newborn nephew should not be at risk of getting a disease before he is old enough to be vaccinated because some kid at a park is not vaccinated. I know anti-vaxxers say vaccines can cause autism, but the risk of that happening is miniscule, and does not outweigh the much more likely risk of your kid getting chicken pox, measles, whooping cough and HPV.
I'm someone who hates the powers at be and questions any authority. On a surface level i get it but after 2 seconds of research vaccines are a piss poor example of exploiting powers. Look up the last man in the iron lung and learn a thing or two.
Also people don't learn anything being called a dumbass. People should be told the history. Amarican revolutionary troops got variolated that means intentionally cutting the skin and putting small pox scabs and puss in those cuts to be immortalized. The immune system is better equipped fighting the disease in the blood system compared with your lungs breathing so you don't die getting sick.
Vaccines are ultimately the disease introduced into your strongest immune system the blood system to learn from it and learn to destroy it everywhere else without you dying in the process.
The fact that they think Vaccines gives you autism is astounding at the leap in logic. Like c'mon vaccines wiped out smallpox, why the fuck are they doing this?
This is child endangerment that can take their life early and make them vulnerable to multiple diseases that could have been prevented if the parent had a better eye than a trained eggplant and a higher IQ than a sleep deprived cabbage.
Whatever idea you have, like government implanted chips, autism (mind you, which is in lots of cases shown to be an affliction you're born with), that it's going to try and kill you to keep population levels down, or whatever crazy conspiracy theory you have, is your ideals held more important than a human life?
And if you say yes, then why? I'm genuinely curious, what gave you the idea of anti-vax and where's the evidence backing you up? And what is the worth of a soul to you? 62 cents? (<- if you get that reference you are one of culture) Please tell me.
Selfish. Ignorant. Selfish, because we don’t just vaccine ourselves to protect ourselves, but also everyone else around. Take the flu— a healthy person can generally survive and recover the flu pretty quickly even if it’s painful as hell. We don’t only get flu shots to avoid this, but also because there are people with lower immune systems that cannot handle this disease (say, a cancer patient or old person). Even if you don’t get sick, you can give it to someone else and they can DIE. Fuck anyone that doesn’t believe in vaccines. These stupid parents deserve to get the goddamn disease and die (natural selection ¡)
I understand their fears and a small minority of children do have life threatening reactions to vaccines leaving some with permanent disabilities but for the majority these are life saving vaccines. One of my preschool students years ago barely survived a case of meningitis. It was pretty scary stuff. I went to my doctor like all the students in my class and asked for the meningitis vaccine. My doctor told me we don't vaccinate adults for it. He eventually caved to calm my fears. I was around 23 at the time. Now meningitis vaccines are mandatory before a person goes to college.
I view them in the same light as those whackjobs who think the world is going to end in 20 years from Global Warming. They are both morons who for one reason or another have these extreme beliefs that are grounded in nothing more poor perception of a situation.
Global warming is real, but it isn't going to end the world in our lifetimes. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a moron. Remember in the 80s when they told us the polar ice caps could melt in 20 years?
Side effects from medication are also real, but vaccinations aren't medications, and they are administered for a reason. I got vaccinated as a kid, as did at least 300 million other Americans and we're all fine.
Anyone who jumps to extremes is a moron.
they are retarded morons. if you personally fear the very unlikely side-effects of certain vaccinations more than getting whatever it's trying to prevent you from getting, then yeah. it's your informed personal decision not to get vaccined. there's also rare cases, where your medical family history make a vaccine dangerous for you, cause you know you'll get the side-effects... but all that doesn't warrant a general "being anti vax" position. you would still have to concede that vaccinations are good for society, you're just not gonna take them for certain reasons. being anti vax is straight idiocy and ignorance.
Fudging stupid. We have plenty of evidence, vaccines work. They don't cause autism. Here immunity is a thing for those who actually cannot be vaccinated, and those who can be should absolutely get them.
Even if they caused autism it would still be worth it. Autism isn't that bad as people wants to make it to be.
I think they are very selfish and putting their child at risk the country I live has already started to do something about these anti vaccine people by imposing rules that state if you are receiving the parenting payment pension and you don't get your child immunized your payment gets affected even suspended until you do have your child immunized some child care centres won't accept your child unless you show that their vaccines are up to date
if they only new the truth, in the first six months of 2018, more than 41,000 Europeans contracted measles and 37 died. One of the most important things you can do to combat the resurgence of obsolete diseases is simply to get vaccinated. Not only does this help prevent you yourself from getting sick, but also makes it harder for the disease to find its way into your community. Peel back the layers of the fears people have about vaccines, and you will invariably find a Conspiracy Theory foundation, whether states or not. Not that bring into Conspiracy Theory is something new, but folks are naturally suspicious, and the YouTube stuff is do very scary.
Suffice to say that once I began to study the history and theory behind vaccine development, a paradigm shift took place. It felt a bit like leaving a cult in that I was accused of joining with the enemy of all of mankind. So be it…
I'm one of those people and I stand by my decision. I have a strange feeling that we are not told the entire story behind every years vaccinations and what it contains. Strangely enough every year its a new strain of influenza and we are used as lab rats for medical purposes rather than we are actually made to believe. I'm pretty certain about that. Even if I'm wrong I just don't feel comfortable being injected with who knows what every year. I also think the best way around it is to naturally let my body fight it and strengthen my immune system that way. It's just my opinion.
@JenSCDC I should maybe correct myself and reading the wording of the question I realized that I have to explain myself. My comment was based strictly on the basis of the annual flu vaccines and not the more generic hard core diseases. For some reason I was concentrating on the flu season vaccines. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Having the general population vaccinated is of course very important. As you mention, "herd immunity". It is selfish for people to take the attitude that they won't be vaccinated. They are riding on the coat tails of those of us who are vaccinated.
A good example of a group of people not being vaccinated is a recent community in, I believe, New York. They had a belief system to not be vaccinated, and there was a measles outbreak there. It could have been worse also.
Very very stupid and they honestly make my blood boil. There are many vaccinations my daughter can't have due to reactions she's had to previous vaccines so she relies on heard immunity, these idiots put her at risk.
The following will make me sound like a complete asshole (I'm not saying that I'm not 😂).
I love anti vaccination people. I honestly think we should let them be and while we're at it remove all the ridiculously obvious warning signs from everywhere. (like don't put your limbs into heavy machinery signs). Let Darwin take over.
It makes me angry. For one thing, the original study that prompted this extremism turned out to be a fraud. Even that study didn't support any connection between vaccines and autism. But the worst is that the people who suffer are not those who believe this crap. It's their children, or the children in contact with those children, or the elderly who die earlier than necessary.
I think people on both sides of this debate don't understand the science behind it. I believe vaccines are largely helpful, but to imagine there are no unintended consequences for injecting a live virus into someones body is naive.
That they should be considered negligent parents if they don’t allow their children to be vaccinated.
Childe health trumps beliefs.
Well I work in the healthcare field and have access to FACTS and have been taught how to critique and validate evidence accurately. So of course I think anti-vaccinators are foolish.
Not sure who down voted, perhaps they’re lacking the common sense to understand this applies to the majority without opppsing risk factors.
I think it's foolish, as well. I believe that if you are going to be anti-vax, then doctors, hospitals, shouldn't need to treat you when you fall ill. The same complex that made all the other revolutions in modern health science also made those life-saving vaccines. If you don't trust vaccines, then you shouldn't trust anything else.
There are a small number of kids that quickly develop autism after being vaccinated when they were perfectly fine before so I understand why some people are hesitant.
For a long time they were convinced that it doesn't cause autism, but just a year or two ago they finally did get evidence that it caused it in some people. It was rare, but it still could cause it.
Considering they essentially abuse their children.. No respect..

Its really funny how everyone attributes the lack of diseases in the modern world to vaccines, shows how little they know. Let’s talk soap, chlorine in water supply, SEWER SYSTEMS, you know, things that have had a wayyyy bigger impact on reducing spread of disease than vaccines
I've seen with my own eyes what it's like in countries where people either don't have access to or cannot afford vaccines for themselves or children. It's a very sad thing young children especially don't have a very strong chance of surviving. I'd rather my child be autistic than dead. The benefits far outweigh the risks.
It might help if doctors would do more explaining instead of "trust me, you need this". I told a doctor I'd rather just get the flu and get over it like I usually do. Then the doctor explained that I could survive the flu but I could give it to someone who can't survive it. So I agreed to get the shot.
I think they’re gravely misinformed. What makes me so mad is the same argument they keep making about vaccines causing autism. Not only is this not true but the fact that someone would prefer a dead child to an autistic child is sickening.
They're selfish. They should build their own town and gather together. Don't mix with the vaccinated kid and get them sick because some ignorant parents.
let me enlighten the mass on the very few who can not get vaccinations, evem doctors say that they should not get vaccinations. ok it is rare but some people have an autoimmune disorder where getting a vaccination has a lot. of bad effects and sometimes possibly hospitalization. again these are very few and far between, these people are the only ones that i say should not get vaccinations
A glaring example of human stupidity, I can understand being worried for your child's health but when you have to perform mental gymnastics in order to justify your methods there is something wrong with you, I'm looking at you people talking about 'big-pharma' and the government trying to trick us.
They would feel right funny if they were all rounded up and put on an island like that tribe that is in the Indian Ocean that its forbidden for outsiders to visit. This tribe of people can get sick off a common cold.
I literally got a vaccine on Monday wow. But I think honestly not getting vaccinated, you’re really putting your life at risk especially if you plan on travelling and like just in general
Their children are dying and they are bring back diseases that had been wiped from the plant. I don't think that they're very smart for not vaccinating.
Stupid people being stupid.
Let them not to get vacciated for something not that well spreading, not requiring herd immunity. Let them die out. Hey! It's just natural selection. You die because you're too stupid. I see nothing wrong with that.
Stupid people who probably follow whatever there mom tells them while there mom is in a midlife crisis or grew up without learning modern biology so they believe stuff told to them because they just want to lead a "healthier life" even if they do not know if it is even healthier or better for them
They are out of their minds!! Thanks to the science that brought us the vaccinations is why a lot of deadly and disfiguring diseases have been removed from our country. Look at other countries that do not have the life saving vaccinations have such a high rate of children and baby deaths.
I'm not surprised, there have always been naïve people, but now with the internet, that naivety is allowed to spread to other people who don't know better. It's the same with flat-earthers and christians.
They are the same people who think the earth is flat
Vaccines work, but they're tampered with other chemicals to increase risk of more serious disease later on. Vaccines aren't used to protect people. That's not the government's motive.
If women have a right to kill their babies because "it's their body," I certainly have a right to refuse a vaccine because it's MY body.
Oh really? Who is the child's parent? Me or the government?
All decisions about a child's education and healthcare should be made by the parents, not some government bureaucrat.
I didn't notice you are 14, so I'm going to go easy on you. :)
I think if the truth is on your side, you don't need to shut down the debate.
And if you're trying to shut down the debate, it means the truth is not on your side.
I'd give my children vitamins and natural herbs. I don't trust the medical system or these vaccine. I never got vaccinated and I am doing fine even with traveling and visiting other countries.
I just struggle to accept that really are people that stupid
It depends on the vaccine and the age of the child, it's a case by case basis, not all vaccines are good/all are bad
That vaccinated people are running around saying vaccines suck and kill brain cells yet they are alive and somehow "superior". Guess they killed a lot of yours huh?
Nothing really, I think they are just as uninformed as parents who let their children be vaccinated without making a research first
I think everyone needs to leave them alone because its their choice as a parent. I have no right to tell anyone to parent.
Very selfish. They leave it up to other parents to the right thing and get their jabs. Some parents don't realise how bad some of these infections can be , a lot of them can kill. If your child has autism he or she had it from birth...
I feel like they're either doing this because they want to be part of a group of people that gain attention (aka attention seekers), or they really don't trust anything. ... Or they're dumb as a sack of hammers.
They're so stupid, they let themselves and their kids face deadly illness that could be prevented through vaccinations.
Well, you should find plenty of them right here at good ole' GaG.
Dont do it you dont need it just take nutrilite vitamins.
It's sad that liberals can still be on the side of anti-science in some cases. It's usually conservatives who would support such crazy shit, but this was started by vegan hippies.
I think they'll all die out and won't be a problem for long.
Anti vaccination people cause avoidable disease outbreaks.
I think they are not being smart, but what can I do? Its child.
They're nuts. They are gullible idiots putting their kids life in danger
It's dangerous and pretty much gambling they will be safe.
Anti-vaxxers are idiots. Unfortunately we can’t let them be and die because they’ll infect everyone around them. We should have laws that force vaccinations.
