Do I trust cops to do their jobs? Yes (though they may do it slowly and without any enthusiasm). Do I think they have too much power? HELL yes. Do I trust them to always be fair/just, or to put human needs/conditions above their quotas? No.
No because they don't need to protect you, courts show us they are not to be held accountable for their actions and they are hiring more and more lunatics as they scurry to reinforce themselves.
Don't believe me? Read the SCOTUS case Warren vs the District of Columbia then tell me cops can be trusted. Those women were raped for HOURS, damn HOURS and those cops and the dispatch officer got off like it was nothing! SCOTUS knew and still let those men off.

That's a terrible thing that happened, but it's in no way representative of all cops.
And yet how many cops have tried to overturn the case? If you aren't actively against evil then you are bad because evil triumphs when good men do nothing.
I have a goo relationship with our local police. I attended their Citizens' Police Academy to learn about their procedures, try out some weapons (I put all my rounds in a 7" circle), meet others in the neighborhood, etc.
There are assholes everywhere and in every occupation one bad apple spoils the impression of everyone. They have tough jobs, no one likes to see them usually and are constantly getting attacked, shot at etc they just want to support their fam and come home at the end of the day like us all
I don't trust them becauss when I was younger they would yell in my face because my parents told them to. I would cry and tell them I did nothing wrong, but they just did it for a power trip
I'm not trying to defend this at all, I'm just wondering; is there a possibility they could've been under the impression (due to what your parents may have told them) that you were starting to go down a bad path and break rules? I know some parents will ask for this to sort of scare their kid away from any sort of bad behaviors. If the cops only went by what your parents said, there's a possibility they saw it as more of a "scared straight" type thing. Not that that makes it right or any less traumatizing for you, just that it may have been from another intention besides a power trip. They might've not believed you when you said you didn't do anything because it's very common for people who actually did to say that. Again, not that it makes it right, just offering another perspective from the cops' side of things.
Without question I do. 97% of police are good women and men. As with any group of people there will be a small element who are the bad apples in the bunch, they are the ones who need to be weeded out not the 97% who risk their life for us each day.
Are there bad cops? Sure. But the vast majority are not. I have two lifelong buddies who are in law enforcement and the things that they have to deal with are just incredible. Most people could not do their job.
i dont blindly trust them all not least because i have had one lie in court about me and i know several infiltrate groups such as animal rights defenders but the police in general have a job to do and we need them more than we dont

Yes, of course I trust them. I have had my share of interactions with police during my life and have never experienced anything but professionalism. But then, I am not a law breaker and I don't do stupid things in the presence of police to test them.
I am not so foolish as to think there are not a few bad apples, but I am also not dumb enough to believe they represent the vast majority of police officers.
In A part of Australia the police used a lawyer to give them information on clients the lawyer was acting for. It was basically the lawyer sending the clients they were meant to defend to prison! the police covered it up and tried their best to keep it from being revealed so no for that reason alone I don’t trust them

No. And I happen to have friends & family who are or were. Good cops.
Why?
Because too many nowadays are poorly trained bullies with badges. I'll never forget, after all, a family friend telling me that a big city took on some wife abuser (she never pressed charges but it was no secret) onto the force cause they were so desperate for bodies even this pos loser would do.

Regarding poorly trained. There's a reason why I've always felt police should serve one year, as a minimum, in the military as it'd teach them a thing or two about how to be authoritative without being bullies, how to be leaders without being jackasses, etc. They've also got limited real life training and/or experience. They've limited mental health training - I worked in mental health, what the average police gets is beyond pitiful & it's ironic when mental health is such an issue. They've limited sensitivity training. They've limited medical training. . Seriously some of them are little more than kids given a gun. And that's dangerous among civilians never mind people who think because they represent the law they're above the law.
I once saw in paper a mayor bragging how he made more money then last year on tickets and how well city is doing. Almost every day in same paper creepy cops getting busted for pervted acts. They know about cartels. Let some go..😱 Pay to play? Would you trust a mexico cop? They hire Mexican racist cops in america now.. 😱 Trust your family to protect only..

I was being abused and they tried to make me look like the bad guy
I'm sorry that happened to you.

Only some of them. I don’t think it’s smart to blindly trust or distrust an entire profession.
They do it to black people🤷♂️
When you're respectful, careful, and cooperative, it makes everything safer and better for you and the officer.
@McChicken Some of them do it to black people.
For the most part yes. I knows cops are human like you and me. They are just trying to earn a living like you and me.

yes ! for I had one here at my house years ago and my nephew is one also ! Thanks
Doesn’t make a difference if you trust them or don’t. The law applies to everyone and they only enforce it
It's a lot easier though when do trust them and it makes their job safer and easier if you cooperate

Other than a few traffic stops I have had no run ins with them.
There are millions of officers, I am supposed to think all are corrupt?
Sadly, tons of people do that

I dont trust anyone these days. But I've never had an encounter with cops so I don't know. I hope i never have to have one
Absolutely. I'm trying to become a police officer. If most officers were bad the military would be called to step in. I believe most officers are good
