For the most part, I do not trust police officers. I would only trust a police officer if I know him or her outside the job. I have a friend that is a police officer that I grew up with and therefore, I trust her a lot. Unfortunately, she has never pulled me over before. I always seem to get pulled over by the cops that have nothing better to do. Police officers have lied on me various times just to write me tickets and send me to court. I have been accused of going 10-15 miles over the speed limit several times when I've really been going just 5 over, which almost everybody does, including police. Many police officers are very quick to react violently if you try to argue with them. Countless stories exist of police officers planting evidence and unlawfully shooting unarmed and often Black citizens while being able to get off scot-free. Of course, as a Black woman, I have to be careful around them. Whenever I reach in my purse for my license and registration, I always make sure to do it slowly so they won't think I'm reaching for a 22. In reality, the question shouldn't be if we trust police, but rather if the police trust us. If you're Black, they really don't trust you, so you have to be extra careful. While I am aware that many good police officers exist, too many police officers have a long history of corruption and naturally, I can't trust anything with a long corrupt history. Thus, whenever I get pulled over, I make sure to record them to prevent them from attempting their corrupt ways. If the officer has absolutely no problem being recorded, then I know he or she is trustworthy. If there is a problem, it raises the question as to why it would be a problem. If the cop had no plans on doing anything wrong, it shouldn't matter.

As someone who had law enforcement in my family (RIP), yes. I am fully aware that not all cops are good cops, but in my experiences with them, the majority are. Just cooperate with them and don't break the law in the first place.
Every time I've been pulled over, I've been respectful and done as they told me. In turn, they were also respectful towards me.
It makes me sad how many people hate cops and even go as far as to wish them dead. It would've been so scary to have the cop in my family still working as a cop today in this type of environment. I'm sure people would have a much different perspective if it was someone they loved putting their life on the line to keep others safe.
What I find insane is how big doctor and teacher worship is (NOT that they're bad, but there are quite a few people who act as if they can do no wrong and look to them as gods, and turn a blind eye to the issues in their industries), but how hated law enforcement and in some cases even the military is. It seems things used to be a lot more level and people used to realize that all of these people are just people.
considering in my past and throughout my life regardless of not breaking the law for the most part yet getting targetted by the police no matter whether i did anything or not...
I have only trusted 3 police officers over the years
1 was when i actually did do something bad, but was while protecting a fiancee years ago, when she was attacked by my mother... and she tried to kill her and take my son, so when i acted to defend my (at the time) fiancee... it didn't help that all the years of abuse from my mother and father came flooding back and i blanked, picked her up by her throat and just held her there until i regained consciousness
I contacted the police myself and told them what i did (as far as i could recall and what i was told), and faced any music
but due to her blatant attack and that she told us that she was going to get me put away in prison, murder my fiancee and take my son...
My mother had Munchausen's and I was her focus during my childhood... so i spent most of my childhood drugged up on medication i didn't need and while she made out i was a severe epileptic 3500 mg of medication each day and most of that medication is now suspected as being the cause of all my health issues today... so I still pay for her twisted ways
as for my father he was violent and manipulative... won't go into too much more on him but the way they were to me is why i chose as a kid I refuse to continue the cycle... to be a better person... but while doing the right thing those who are still alive from my family still try to get me sent down regardless of innocence
so most police, no... some yes
No joke, when I was no more than 5 years old, I can remember my mother telling my younger brother and me, "If you kids get thrown in jail you can expect to stay there because I won't be bailing you out. Because if you are in jail it means that you deserve to be. When a police officer tells you to do something you say, 'Yes, sir" and you do it!"
To be sure, beyond wondering how I would end up as the first second grader incarcerated on Alcatraz, speaking at just a personal level, I have no sympathy for this notion that someone is a delicate little snowflake who deserves to have his feelings given a higher regard than the rule of law. It is utterly alien to everything I was raised with.
The police have a risky job, their lives are on the line at every stop, and they have no way of knowing who you are or what you are doing. They deserve deference and if they go outside the bounds, you have redress for that in a court of law.
The current popular attitude toward law enforcement is an outgrowth of a sniveling, self-absorbed and self-pitying culture that too easily takes for granted the difficult task of maintaining a stable social order. "The policeman was mean to me!" Good grief.
Whether the cop is holding you at gunpoint or simply approaching you to ask a question, sensible people show proper respect for society. It works better that way.

For the most part I trust the police but I still think the justice system has many flaws that need to be addressed and fixed. Here are 4 of those flaws
1.) false dichotomy way of analyzing cases
2.) susceptibility to bias and corruption.
3.) Expendability of prisoners 4.) The death penalty and sterilizations which are arguably violations of the 8th amendment and thus should be abolished.- u
I have had a few encounters with law enforcement but they were always fair and honest.
No I don't trust police and I'm a white male. I've been arrested a handful of times and yes I was guilty but my issue is when I was 14 I was beat up by police because I ran from them. I wound up with a fractured wrist bruised ribs and a mild concussion and as the cop was walking me back to his car he told me he wanted all my buddies to see what happens when you run from the police. My only action that could of been seen as resisting was I ran and was taunting them at first because I had a good lead which didn't last for too long obviously. One more incident when I was 21 I was arrested and when I was already in cuffs on my knees up against the stucco wall of the apartment that I just surrendered from I caught 2 knees to the back of my head with my face already against the stucco. Yes I was guilty but there was no need to knee me like that but the worst was how they pepper sprayed my homeboy and were beating him with their clubs first in his legs then his body then his head but yes he was resisting not fighting them just trying to get away. Yes they were trying to just get him down to arrest him but once he was down they kept hitting him. He was white also. I could tell you a few more like that. Yes I was a thug back then and I know cops are human and have emotions too but they take on a job that gives them too much power and they are supposed to be held to a higher level then a thug. I believe it's not just a race thing it's also a anybody not wearing a badge or closely related to a badge they are as less then them so it's not just people of a darker skin it's if your not one of them you're not safe. They need to do a much deeper evaluation before hiring cops. If they were bullied in school don't hire them cause apparently most highschool bullies looked like a younger me and those ass woopins weren't fun. Also yes there's been times when cops had a clean shooting on people but then stand around making stupid comments to each other and not one tries to save the man's life all on camera or the lady pulled over for a traffic violation and because she wouldn't put her cigarette out he yanks her out the car and she goes to jail then is found dead in her cell. Both those cases were blacks how can anyone not expect people to not trust police especially people of a darker color. I already know that I'm just gonna agree to disagree sometimes we need to try and look at things from a different perspective and that might help to understand were someone's coming from doesn't mean you gotta agree but it can help to see and understand. Ultimately our system is broken and our ways of thinking are broken and we need to be a part of the solution not part of what's feeding the problem. I'm not smart enough to know how to fix it but I'm smart enough to see it's broken.
older ones tend to be better, but the young ones watch-out, females too. I have had a few run-ins with idiot cops. They lie all the time, tell you things about laws which are not true and cover-up things when they screw-up. I have had many incidents thrown out of court. But I know my rights. And many do not stand up for the constitution.
One case I had.
Driving home from the movies with my mother, car behind us had bright lights, so I pulled to the side. Turns out it was a cop, puts his lights on, comes to passenger window, ask why I pulled over, said because his lights, his response "My brights were not on.". He then asked for my drivers license, I said no, and was leaving. Drove away, he pulled me over again. Now I'm pissed, I ask him why he pulled me over and he said I need your license, I said no you don't I did nothing wrong. I asked him what the reason was for the stop, what is your probable cause. He would not answer. I then asked for a supervisor, I called 991 explain I was in a illegal stop. They basically held me for over an hour until they threatened to bust the window on mother's car, so I gave in. I explain I was armed, they said I was suppose to notify them by law I'm armed, I said not the law does not say that. They took my firearm while they ran my info. I got a tick, not physically because he could get the printer working. Case then got default judgment because I was never notified. I had the case re-opened. Made a records request for dash cams and body cams. Apparently dash cams malfunctioned. has some body cams though.
Got to court and apparently they got pissed and file more charges the day after my records request. "Felony Eluding" which is BS because lights must be on and siren and travel of x miles.
Since they destroyed the dash cam video they couldn't prove their case and I knew it. They tried bullying me and even offered me 10 days in jail. I laugh and said No, I will see you in discovery.
I had the whole thing thrown out.
I still have the body cam video, and the 911 audio.
Let's just say the cops don't come near me anymore.
I have video of the two cops in the incident above, talking to each other saying "We better wait here and watch, he may turn around and shoot at us us.". Delusional, even though they ran my info and I was clean and I was in my mid 40's.
Many cops have no respect for your rights and just looking for something to do. They also have very little accountability, most of the time you have to spend thousands to get any action, and not much.
I have had few others, but pretty much the same BS. Some cops trying to violate your right and push their authority complex on you.
If you don't have a couple cams in your car, you are taking a big risk.It was once a time when the police were somewhat honest and concerned citizens who had a mission to maintain the security of our communities, but something has changed.
It is now difficult to tell the police from the criminals other than the uniforms are different. You better be very careful around anyone who gets up in the morning, ready to take the life of another human being. That doesn't mean they are all bad, but it is certainly more than the few you are always hearing about.
The corruption runs through from top to bottom and you better believe they all know about it. The corrupt run the show and any honest ones are quietly passed over for raises and promotions.
They have a wolf pack mentality and they all cover for one another. The only reason any of them are brought to justice today is that camera phones are everywhere.
Again, be careful around them because they are building a case against you even when you have done nothing wrong. If they really want to get you, they'll just make something up and then it is your word against the machine.Depends what country you are in. I read estimates that 25 to 50 percent of Mexican police officers are corrupt. This ranges from looking the other way all the way to actively working for the cartels.
Many Americans are like “hey if I get in trouble down there... it’s easy. I just pay someone off”. But seriously think about that the duplicity of corruption. A cop can be paid off to cover up a rape or murder. Where is the justice for the victims and families of the victim?
At least in the USA and other western countries the corruption rate is much lower. Sadly it will always exist but that comes with the fact that cops are people too and unfortunately some people make poor decisions.
As for police brutality against minorities I see that as a much more complex problem. I do believe that some law enforcement officers take discriminatory mental shortcuts when dealing with minority. But they sure as hell not training cops to be racists at the police academy. In fact I’ve personally seen cops be EXTRA nice to black people out of fear of looking racists. One time I got a speeding ticket while I long drive for a humanitarian trip. I had my black friend drive and he laughed at me for being “speeding Gonzales”. 15 mins after he said that a state trooper pulled him over. The trooper LET HIM OFF WITH A WARNING. My other white friend quipped “uh oh better be nice to the black man”.I fully support my local police force. In fact, I try to help them out when I can. Often times they'll stop to talk with me, ask me what my plans are for the day, check my weapon licenses. They trust me so much I constantly see them following me around, watching and analyzing my every move in case I need some backup. Sometimes I get an undercover job and they post me as an inside man in the local jail. The longest mission I had was ten years, but I don't care at all. I'll continue to make society safer by keeping the invasion of Irish immigrants in check. Those laughable leftists may be able to hide their IRA buddies from the police, but I won't let them spread their disgusting culture to our pristine bars and gambling halls. Just as soon as I complete my mission, here at the mental ward.
I didn't vote because I don't have a definite answer, I somewhat trust them but with every person in a position of power people WILL abuse it. I believe that some police are good but it only makes since that some of them are shit, when we need police officers they're not going to try to hire the top of the top people because that's too much work, time, and money naturally so. There are a lot of shit people in the world so there is naturally shit cops but unlike with teacher who are also in a position of power the consequences of them abusing that power usually doesn't end in someones life being taken away.
Don't get me wrong, I very much respect police and all emergency personnel. They have a tough job and not many people are cut out for that. but like I said when they "mess up" the consequences are much greater and the blue brotherhood has been known to defend they're own even when the guilty party is overwhelmingly guilty. No too many bad experiences on both sides of the law.
The last one was November a drunk driver who was racing someone else clipped the back of my mums car and flipped it. When the police came to get a statement later the policeman spoke about how he'd been to see the guy who did it and he was such a great guy and the police was comforting him telling him he wouldn't get too bad a punishment.
Then there's me who got charged with afray because my neighbor's were having a party and when i complained the sent a gang of travellers to my house.
The police are fine unless you actually need them. They're people just like everyone else, so I don't really trust them any more or less just because of their job. Personally, I have never had a bad experience dealing with the police whether just socializing or getting a citation for something.
Now, would I rely on the police to protect me everywhere I go? Absolutely not. No matter what the circumstances, my concealed handgun and my own two legs are going to be much quicker to react to an imminent threat than trying to dial 9-1-1 and waiting for them to arrive. In some cities, police response can take upwards of 30 minutes, but anything more than a couple seconds can be too slow. Not at all. I have to interact with police quite a bit for work, and victims of assault. Can honestly say it depends on which officer you get as to what type of response you receive (which shouldn't be the case).
The smartest thing you can do is know your rights and if something isn't right about what they're doing/saying, don't let it slide. Follow it up until it is sorted properly.I've had a number of interactions with the police - including last weekend when I was working at a dental office and set off the alarm. I stood calmly and talked to them, and had no problems.
Most people who don't like the police have given the police a reason not to like them, and most respond to the police like a criminal - they run, get upset, fight back, etc. A huge number talk or behave their way into much more trouble.
Police aren't perfect - these are still individual human beings doing a dangerous job, and not all are good people, but most are doing their best. They have no training to contain themselves around mentally ill people, deaf people or homeless people. They undergo "warrior" training that tells them to kill anyone who threatens them in any way, no questions asked, and our justice system reinforces this behavior by letting them do it. No, I absolutely do not trust cops. The very nature of their job, currently, makes them a threat to millions of Americans.
No.
HEAR ME OUT!!!
This question needs a touch of clarification.
I really dont have reason to trust my local police dept. That being said... i have all the trust in the world in my local police officers.
The police force is an entity in and of itself. Like almost all organizations, it works to serve its own interests, and to expand its power whenever possible.
A police officer is a person. And like most people, he/she can be dealt with in a ono-on-one setting.
Please note that i said "some". Not "all".I didn't do anything that would arouse suspicion with them and I still got fuckin' arrested. You don't have to have done anything wrong! Just be in the wrong place at the wrong time and suffer the attentions of clueless incompetents.
Previously I helped the police and brought information to them that led to the arrest and conviction of a serious criminal. I have a strong sense of justice and recognise many members of the police do too but am sceptical of the authority structure and competence and intelligence of the average officer. And while I had this opinion quite complacently in the past I now have it from unpleasant personal experience.I have a very ambivalent view of them. The system is rigged in their favor and they hold way to much power, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to shit on every cop individually. But I also think that a position that promises that much power attracts power hungry individuals.
Personally I've had positive and negative encounters with police. Now keep in mind I do not currently have a criminal record but years ago cops screwed me twice once when I was a minor. I did nothing wrong either time and these pricks tried to railroad me. They charged me twice just for being with someone who did something and one of the times all I did was answer the door at my house and come outside. I have since got both of these things expunged and never did any time lucjily. Not all cops are bad but most are on a power trip and more recently it is all over the news how they kill someone and then they face no charges and get suspended with pay it is a complete joke they should get jail for life. They are in a position of authority and they abuse it.
I do. The London Metropolitan police are great. They don't just beat people up like in third world countries. They are trained to deescalate situations first before anything else. They also interact a lot with the local community. Before budget cuts, there used to be a local police officer who would come to my house and warn us about things like burglaries in the local area and how to stay safe.
I do. I have friends who are cops, and they're all solid guys. I've been to cali and the LAPD officers I talked to helped me with directions, joked around with me and my girlfriend, and even offered us a ride across town. They're all good people who will help you if they don't think you're a total piece of shit.
ABSOLUTELY NOT !!! they are boot liking illiterate lazy cowards, abusing their power, and predators that "CAN" (scratch that "WILL") get away with sexual harassment
they only exist to repress and pray on the people and minorities without actually interfering when serious problems/crimes happen
